Hey! So......as the designer of Bargain Basement Bathysphere, I was quite surprised to see the game listed at the top of the hotness list, thanks to the fine folks at SU&SD. And I figured I had to do something special....so, I though I'd provide a link to an unfinished game I've been working on and off ( mostly off ) for at least 10 years, "mostly off" because the work involved in CREATING the chapters is VERY brain burning. In a lot of ways, you'll find a lot of BBB's DNA in this game regarding the way the chapters work. Be forewarned if you are up the task...it's a boardgame and NOT a roll&write, and it will put all of your cardboard crafting skills to task ( but only one level at a time). I believe that there is some similarity with the way Black Sonata works mechanically in the way it hides and reveals information. If you like putting cards on top of things and looking through little holes, there's a lot of that in this game. (I've actually never played Black Sonota so I'm not exactly sure). So, I present to you, if you are up to the challenge. The Overly Complicated Gates of Atlantis! I hope SUSD's recent explorations earns solo gaming a permanent place in the rotation. It's a legit, thriving, and to be frank, economic engine of the hobby. The 1PG is the largest guild on BGG.

for years and years i always wanted to get in to board games cause it seemed like fun. i never had anyone to regularly play with cause none of them are in to board games, so i never bothered really looking in to the hobby. in march of this year i saw an article about an elder scrolls board game, which led me to a fallout board game, which led me to realize THERE ARE SOLO BOARD GAMES! since that day i've spent an embarrassing amount of money on 20 different games (plus i've bought a few different PNP games) and it's pretty much over taken video games as my in-home-hobby. i wish i'd have found this years ago. since then i've been able to rope friends in to playing with me once a month or so.

@@conedx Your experience sounds pretty similar to mine. Always wanted to get in, friends not interested, found a game that could be played solo (in my case, it was Wrath of Ashardalon and this was about 2011 or so), which led me to other solo playable games. The main difference for me was that I somehow miraculously stumbled upon a gaming group a few years later. The details are too convoluted to go through, but I ended up making friends with a guy at work and sort’ve roped him into the hobby. He got into it as deeply as I did and now some 8 years or so later, we’re very close friends.

Mini Rogue is super fun. Barbarian Vince is fascinating but the replayability isn't that great after while, though it has a great exploration feel at start. Amazing what was crammed into a deck even though it necessarily brings it's problem. Wish there was more versions with new maps and quest and encounters to keep it fresh. Such a complete fantasy rpg adventure in a deck. Unrestricted travel through world map, skills, items, passing years, rumours, 'story' quests, location type specific random encounters (forest, mountains, city, port...), random draws... no dice, no pencil, no tokens, no book keeping, no nothing. Just a deck and imagination.

SPRAWLOPOLIS! It has a PNP version and a couple of retail versions. It's a game about laying down cards to build a city, and earning points - BUT every game you randomly need to grab 3 point scoring (or deducting) objectives which when combined create a new gameplay experience. There are also some great additions for it which include turning the city into a beach town by adding in just 4 cards, or a single card that adds a Kaiju style "Godzilla-similar" monster to your town, or construction zones to get in your way. It's already a very thoughtful and challenging game on its own that weighs in at just 18 cards and no other components! I would say it is most similar to Crystallo in this video, in that it's about laying down cards/covering up other cards in order to create certain patterns or meet certain objectives. The first 4 games that I played I lost, and I couldn't stop thinking about how I could change my approach to win - which included slowing down since there were no other players. This game has been my go-to for self isolation and I can't recommend it enough :)

This was a very nice video, thank you. I didn't find it earlier though so I was already through a number of BGG games. Your video gave me a few options which I set aside though, so thank you very much! Me and my son (7 years old) play the following games a lot, ordered by most to least often played: 1. One Deck Dungeon - absolutely fantastic! Son loves it but can't quite handle the mechanics yet so I assist him but he keeps asking for more and more. Personally, I love the order and how the game gets harder as the floors increase. When playing with son, I sometimes game the system a bit so as to give him some succes ;) 2. Deep space D6 - also absolutely fantastic! Son adores this as well, also because there are different ships available online making for different types of games. Personally I like it for its shorter games when compared to ODD. 3. Delve - it's quick and fairly easy going. Son likes it but repeatability is a bit low. It's faster still though, which is a plus on some days. I also printed Star Trek the dice game. It's a bit more complex than ODD and requires more effort to follow the different tracks. I'm a huge trekkie but this game just didn't quite do it for me. With the 5 year missions, the game can get very long indeed. It's not something to easily put away either. Last was the Doctor Who write and roll game. It was so _tedious_ I set it aside after 30 minutes. The write and roll was OK but the constant looking up this and that was just too much for me. I'd play it with friends for a D&D party with a GM but no more solo.

Thanks Quinn a brilliant video as always and has me inspired! I've been playing through B17 Queen of the Skies which is an old 80s game I had as a kid that I rediscovered as a free print and play. Its a crew/ship management game where you are trying to get your B17 to a target and back in one piece fighting off fighters and flak. If I'm honest there are very few active decisions that you can make and it is more a reactive than proactive process. Short of keep going or turning back you are along for the ride but oh what a ride! Its immersive and fun as you name all your characters and try to fly the 25 mission campaign. Some missions being a relatively easy cake walk, others having you torn to shreds and praying that you are lucky on the dice. Its great fun and the community have created various additions to shake things up. If you fancy losing yourself for 30 mins or so then I would highly recommend. Get a beer, some dice and a pencil and relive your own action war movie where you can see if you and your friends are able to get home in one piece.

Most of my favourite Print & Play games aren't solitaires, but a few that are: - Black Sonata is a bit trickier to build, but it's oh so very worth it. I mean, just look at any of John Kean's designs in general, they're all clever in one way or another, but Black Sonata is a proper gem. - If you enjoy Crystallo, it's also worth taking a look at Orchard. Very simple to build - you just need to make a few cards and find dice from somewhere - and takes a different approach to a similar mechanic. It's a really nice puzzler (and Mark Tuck is another designer of quite a few cool PnP games). - Inspector Moss: House Arrest looks at first like it's going to be trickier to build, but really doesn't need anything harder to build than Supermarché... just a little bit more of it. It presents itself as a deduction game but really it's a spatial-narrowing game where you have to eliminate all but one of the suspects to a murder before the time limit is up - ButtonShy published a whole raft of d6-based roll and writes over 2018 under the title 'Legends of Dsyx' which are available for small money through PnPArcade.

18AL was my first print and play. Was a lot of work making it, but such an excellent free 18xx game that doesn't take overnight to play.

Maquis has to be my #1 solo game and print and play game. I have three copies. One I made, one I bought on the first Kickstarter, and a third I bought as a backup copy on the second Kickstarter. GET IT!!

I thoroughly recommend 30 Rails. Some people refer to it as Railroad Ink but better. Completely free.

You guys should review The 7th Continent. Since the game is no longer Kickstarter exclusive, I think it would be right up your alley. A fantastic game to solo.

What you need is a laminator. It's the king of stationary.

It's an RPG rather than a board game, but highly recommend Ironsworn if you want a solo adventure game. You are an oath bound (sworn on Iron!) wanderer completing quests across a rugged land. It has lots of tools to let your imagination flow and create a cool narrative even when you're on your own.

(Your name here) and the Argonauts is a classic, fun and simple card game with a legacy touch. Another great one is Guildhaven. And if you want to go back to the very beginning of epic adventure board games, you can print Barbarian Prince... heavy stuff though, tough learning curve and very difficult to win.

One thing to add is some of these PnP games you can play on a tablet so you don’t even have to print. I just downloaded and played the pinball game several times and kinda fell in love with it. It’s a fun little dice chucker

These Print & Cut games remind me of playing KING OF THE TABLETOP after cutting it out of a Dragon Magazine in 1983. Not a 1 player game, but similar aesthetic.

Similarly, this made me think of another Tom Wham game: Mertwig's Maze. That's multiplayer as well though.

Thanks for another great video! You guys always make me laugh out loud and that's life giving during this time. I'd love a video on two player game recommendations - my husband and I have been playing Pandemic Legacy and Seven Wonders: Duel lately, and we're huge fans of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective and Arabian Nights.

A game that I've spent hours on is d100 dungeon. All you need is 2d10, a d6, some graph paper and a small rulebook. It's amazing how they can ramp up difficulty just by the mission structure. Here is a tip from me to you if you wanna play this game: whenever you get a crit, infest into escape. The tutorial is somewhat reliant on you defeating monsters and it's somewhat frustrating if they keep running away.

Got all excited when I saw Barbarian Prince. I bought this as a young teen, hoping it would fill the void of my D&D group that had just moved out of state (it didn't). Note, either I don't get this game at all, or it is brutally hard. I have never come even close to winning, often dead within the first couple weeks of play. So here I am hoping that Tainted Grail is an infinitely better version of Barbarian Prince.
