It's only been in the last week that I have come to a conscious appreciation of Dave Davies' contributions to the Kinks recordings. Beyond the innovative distortion of "You Really Got Me", his guitar work is consistently masterful. And while his thin tenor as a lead voice may take some getting used to, many a Kinks record would be weaker without that same voice on the chorus. Please take a bow, Dave Davies!

Agreed, Dave always brought out the best in Ray's songs and played what was right for the songs. His back-up vocals also were an integral part of the Kinks sound as well. No disrespect to Dave's talent but what do you do when your brother is one of the greatest songwriters ever? You have no choice but to play second fiddle.

I truly love the KINKS, it hit me like a rock when I first heard their music, You Really Got Me, All Day And All If The Night, Tired Of Waiting, Well Respected Man, I am A Ape Man, and I can keep on going. The Kink were like rock, comedy, love, sincerity, warm, intriguing, they made a point they filled what they played they were in extraordinary band they were deep sincere and dedicated. They were a world of talent you don’t hear these types of bands anymore they just don’t come around as often as one hope. Innoway to me they were like the Beatles but the opposite the Beatles or sensational they delivered a certain taste, then the kinks came along they were the opposite of the Beatles in regards of style but they had the talent energy are awesome.I hope I make some kind of sense in describing what I feel about this group. No I believe dave had a stroke but still I’m so thankful he’s around and he still looks great but he’s Dave from the kinks as a sectional musician full of talent brilliant. It is a pity that mutual respect could not be achieved between the two very talented Davies brothers. Maybe they should have gone their separate ways musically long ago. Having been in multiple bands for 40 years, I find that respect, and responsibility, not affection, is the factor that keeps bands together. I have had to abandon playing gigs with certain friends in order to keep the friendship. I'd still play music with them and jam for fun, but not for the paying public.
@tarnsand4403 жыл бұрын
John & Tom Fogerty also had a acrimonious relationship once they formed a band...with Tom commenting he could play but John had ' the sound' should be lead singer. Sadly John's talent also made him difficult to get along with and Tom eventually left the band.

John by many accounts' attitude was it's my way or no way once CCR became well known. I saw a 2 hr docu on roadies agents et al that witnessed the band during several scenarios such as rehearsing recording and contract negotiations and John had to be boss in everything. Even insisting they didn't need a lawyer to read the fine print in recording deals (stated he was more than capable of doing it ) which turned disasterous and effected the band members profits ownership of own music forever.. I think it comes with too much success too fast...many start to believe they are God like.
