Today I am going to talk about small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, also called SIBO for short. And so I'll just cover some main points first; what is it, what causes it, how do you know if you have SIBO and finally, how do you treat it.
Covered in this video:
- What causes SIBO?
- Health conditions and medications that can lead to SIBO
- Dietary approaches for SIBO
- Which is better: antibiotics or herbs?
- Why snacking can sabotage treatment

there’s another reason for sibo and that’s the vagus nerve. it controls so many functions including all the sphincter valves, and one of those is the Ileocecal valve. this valve separates the large and small intestines. if it is malfunctioning and stuck open too many times, bacteria makes it’s way from the large to the small intestines. a malfunctioning LES causes GERD. a malfunctioning pyloric valve causes bile reflux, and that.can irritate the stomach lining causing gastritis which can lead to so many problems. At the end of the day it’s usually STRESS, and/or upper cervical instability. this information i give to all for free because i love you.

Thank you for this great comment, Gino! This is absolutely true, and we use a lot of vagus nerve therapies in our clinic. Lots of referrals for chiropractic and physical therapy as well. The autonomic nervous system and structural integrity of the body can't be overlooked.

Check if the water you are drinking and showering has too much chorine and choralamine. I found out that I was drinking about 2 liters of "chorine juice" everyday. I am improving a lot now that I discovered this problem in the water. Buy a tester to measure chorine in aquarium water in the pet shop or a tester for swimming pools.

What supplements do you recommend and what products can be bought over the counter to support motility? Also, I had taken Xifaxan without doing a breath test 4 weeks ago. I found 1 extra pill of Xifaxan in the bottle and decided to just take it 2 days ago. I then completed a breath test today that I submitted to the lab. Do you believe that this 1 recent pill of Xifaxan is likely to skew my result? Thank you!

Thank you for this info. Would probiotics help?
@mjrussell414
@mjrussell414 2 жыл бұрын
No, they can make it worse (more bloating). I know this from personal experience. You are supposed to follow a special restrictive diet for a few months to kill off the bacteria (good and bad), then repopulate the gut flora with soil-based probiotics. The majority of my more severe symptoms went away, but since I’m off the diet and have reintroduced some troublesome foods, some bloating has come back, so I’m planning to go back on the diet for a while. I found good info on a website called The SIBO Doctor. My naturopath recommended a supplement called Atrantil which helps. I also found that intermittent fasting also helped the gut to heal.

Gluten free and dairy free helps a lot. Magnesium helps constipation. I still have bloating but it takes discipline to follow a strict clean diet which is really the key. If I have dairy it’s the worst. Intermittent fasting helped me but I didn’t like it after a while, it seems drastic. Seems like people in France and Italy don’t have our issues and they eat for pleasure. It’s so frustrating.

Hi! Thanks for a good video. I wonder how one is thinking of the following concept regarding Sibo (I got it myself) : pH. Should the pH in small intestine be around 8.0? Is the function of gall bladder liquids and pancreas juices, that all are alkalic, to get the food to get alkalic? So as long as what u eat is more alkalic, it gets more easy to obtain that 8.0 environment in the small int...and then bad bacteria and fungi will not be able to live? As they are designed to live only with acidic pH... (this also requires that u move your body so that food does not stay too long in intestine, and increase the motility as mentioned here) and that u breath good to get oxygen enough , to intestine cells. This is inspired by Robert Young

I was on antibiotics for my acne for a year straight. I then developed a severe sinus infection towards the end and was put on 2 more antibiotics. As soon as my antibiotics ended, I developed severe acid reflux that I’m struggling with every single day for nearly 2 years straight now. My digestive system has slowed down so much that I’m always severely constipated. I’ve had every test in the book done in the past two years including endoscopy, barium swallow, thyroid tests, blood tests, you name it. None of my doctors can figure it out which is so frustrating. I’m finally getting tested for h. Pylori soon if I can get off my PPIs slowly without suffering acid rebound. I’d love to be tested for SIBO but none of my doctors know what it is. I really want to take a more natural approach to being treated because I was on 3 different antibiotics last year alone. Apparently naturopaths aren’t really a thing in Missouri? EDIT: I tested positive for h. Pylori and just finished antibiotics for it!

@abhishekparulekar7965
@abhishekparulekar7965 2 жыл бұрын
No you’ll deprive yourself of essential nutrients. A low FODMAP diet is often recommended for a month, accompanied with anti microbial (rifaximin) for the first two weeks in that month. You can slowly introduce moderate FODMAP foods. And smartly time them later on (such as alternate days.. thrice a week) to keep gut microbiome balanced Also have apple cider vinegar on a fairly regular basis to maintain an acidic environment in the stomach and small intestine
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Abhishek is correct, the initial phase is mostly to clear or reduce symptoms. The next essential step is to reintroduce foods, to figure out which foods you removed were a trigger. It's likely not ALL the foods on the high fodmap list.
