Note this heater only heats at half its power if the water if a couple degrees below the set point. It will cycle on and off every minute. Its not compatible with any controller like an Inkbird
@FathomAquatics
@FathomAquatics 11 ай бұрын
Not sure where you got that information, but The sicce scuba contactless heater only heats on half power if you have actived the emergency power saving mode in the Contrall App. If you don't active power save mode the heater works with full power. And even so, both the inkbird and the scuba have their own independent built in thermostats so for the time periods an inkbird feeds power to the heater it will work as intended.
@marklee4409
@marklee4409 11 ай бұрын
Its is not in saver mode that is different. Its not the unit doesn't draw 300 watts when it is on. Its the fact that it is only on half the TIME. Do this if you dont believe me. Fill a reasonable sized tank with cold as possible water. Set the heater to 85 and watch it. very simple test. It will cycle on for 1 minute ish then off for 1 minute ish till the water gets close to the set point. So its only on half the TIME ie half the POWER. I have a 200 gallon tank Im setting up ( no fish ) so I ran this test many times with 2 different units. Sicce support told me dont use a controller. I have since returned my Scubas to them. I think it is a bad design. They say it is to "protect" fish from a fast temp swing. EDIT: The reason a controller dosent work is you typically set the heater higher than the Inkbird so it never get "close" to the set point and will always be half duty cycle.

@@marklee4409 all the controller will do is supply power when it determines the water is too cold. When the scuba gets that power it will activate the hating coil when it's internal thermostat detects the water is too cold. You shouldnt run two different devices like this because unless they are calibrated they have a possibility of contradicting eachother and it increases the number of fall points.
@marklee4409
@marklee4409 11 ай бұрын
Did you read what I said ? Yes the controller will supply power to the heater and the heater will heat. But if you have the heater set a couple degree above the Inkbird set point the heater will never get close ITS set point. When this heater is a few degrees below ITS set point it will ( on its own ) cycle on and off half the time, So you effectively get half the power of the heater. IE my 300 watt heater only output 150 wats over the 2 minutes the Scuba cycled on and off.
@FathomAquatics
@FathomAquatics 11 ай бұрын
@@marklee4409 you don't need to set the heater higher than the inkbird like you would with most other heaters. That's done as a fail safe and to keep it from going on and off like what you experienced. Because the scuba contactless has its own internal controller you can skip that and it will manage itself. I'm not arguing I'm trying to help you. Set the heater as if it were stand alone without an inkbird, then set the inkbird upper heat limit at least 5 degrees higher than your scuba so the inkbird is ways supplying power unless the inkbird detects there is an anomaly and cuts power to the heater in the event that the heater itsf is malfunctioning. The heater will function as intended and depending on the model inkbird you'll still retain wireless temperature readouts and emergency high temp shut off. As far as the heater using less power when it's closer to the desired temperature, I can't find any sources to that but I know of other heaters that do that for efficiency so I would assume it's to maintain the set temperature without having to blast it at full power if your temperature is half a degree off and having spikes of high power using which would waste more power and decrease the lifespan of the internals. I can reach out to sicce and get more info if there's still some discrepancies just let me know

i like they he doesn't show it in use. you have to stick the middle of your phone up against the sensor for it to register EVERY TIME you want to use it... UNDERWATER. Absolute uselessness.

At the 3:10 timestamp of the video you can see me clearly setting the temperature through the glass. It can also be set while completely unplugged and removed from the tank, not underwater, as mentioned in the video. Now in comparison to a traditional heater, you're typically having to get your hands in there and wet to get the to heater and turn a knob, so if this was an apples to apples comparison it would be just like every other heater, but like i said and showed, you can set the temperature through the glass. I've been using this heater for almost half a year and have changed the temperature through the glass while the heater was fully submerged many times now. But as stated, that's only one of many features this heater has over competitors. The extra safety features are what really sells this to me. This heater was purchased by me with my own money and this video is not sponsored or affiliated with sicce in any way I am only showing off what I have found as a great product. If you need help with your heater please feel free to reply with whatever issue and Ill do what i can to help. Im not some marketing agent or someone being paid by sicce, im just someone that reviews things that i think are beneficial to other hobbyists

My phone doesn't scan the heater once in the tank. I've tried spinning suction cups around, etc. Returning mine tommorow.

I’m pretty sure the company paid for you to make this video. It’s kind of a pain in the ass. I have to scan it every time to check the temp but the biggest problem of all is it almost always refuses to scan. This means I have no idea what my temp is and I’m unable to adjust it. I don’t think I’d buy this product again
@FathomAquatics
@FathomAquatics 2 ай бұрын
@@Dr.JamesJohannson this company did no pay me at all. They did not give me anything. I have had no communication with sicce at all. It would be illegal for me to not disclose that or to hide it. I bought my heater myself and I use it every day. You only use the app to change the temperature, once you set it it’s set and done until you want to change the temperature again. I think sicce has an ecosystem of WiFi products that will link with the heater so you can see temps at all times if you wanted but I do not have those and haven’t used them. This heater is not a WiFi heater it is nfc. To see your temperatures you need a thermometer

@FathomAquatics let's see. I have to constantly pull my heater out of my tank in order to monitor temp/change temp. For contactless, I have to have way more contact with this heater than one with a simple knob. I've turned my heater around on the suction cups, and I've changed positions in my tank. Zero ability to do any nfc read while it is submerged. Waste of money.

@@7James77 well it’s a heater not a thermometer so you shouldn’t be removing it to read the water temperature. It’s more of a set it and forget it until you need a drastic change like raising the temp to fight ick. You should be using a thermometer to monitor your water temperature.
