Tal's reputation obviously preceded him. I think that if Black plays the continuation NxN+ followed by Bxg2 preventing the checks on the h file he certainly could have held out longer, e.g. R or Qxc3 is coming or Kg8 depending on White's reply.
@Grymmorgan
@Grymmorgan 9 жыл бұрын
I think another dimension of 15. h4 is that Tal is a fast attacker, and lives on tempo. Upon securing g5 with his h-pawn, he will have reduced black's dark square bishop's scope immensely, condemning black to a lot of tempo and action to free it, whereas Tal is buying space, crowding the enemy king, and burying an enemy piece in one, economical move. He is effectively "trading" dark square bishops - at least temporarily. And "temporarily" is usually all Tal needs to complete a winning attack! ;^)

at 5:00 rook to A1 was an option Queen to A7 check mate. If bishop takes pawn on B2 than Knight takes pawn on D6, if pawn takes knight rook takes pawn with intent of rook to A6, pawn takes rook, pawn takes pawn, Queen to B4 check and Queen to B7 checkmate. Other alternative pawn does not take,but rook to B8 instead, then pawn to B6. Pawn takes pawn, queen takes pawn. Basically he is better of protecting his King. At least I think.

What do you think about Qd3 instead of Rhe1 after black Be7 at 1:54? The idea is that after black castle white would take the knight on f6 with bishop and if black take back with bishop it loses the pawn on d6 and if take with g pawn then white has open g-line and a stron attack on king side: rook, knight, and queen can easily switch via third row to join the attack (this is the reason why Qd3 instead of Qd2 was played in first place).

Evidently black was doomed after 15..hxg5 against a player like Tal ,Qd8 was probably better with the possibility of ..Nh7 or Ng8 keeping defense on the king side without opening the H file ; what do you think Mato, if you have time.

Mato at 4:33 the reason why black didn't play Nxc3, is it because after Nxc3 there is 1.Rh1+ Kg8 2.Qh7# Checkmate in two? Or is there something I am missing in that continuation?

Nice video but maybe Tal's sacrifice was unsound after 1.h4 hxg5 2.hxg5 Nxe4 3.Qd3 Nxc3+ 4. bxc3 Bxg5 5.fxg5 Rfe8 and King can escape, 6. Rh1+ Kg8 7. Qh3 Kf8 and black will be OK. Sometimes a Tal sacrifice has a psychological advantage but not a real chess advantage in this game.

Well we have all the time that we need to speculate, they didn't. It's true it seems to be a better move, as black doesn't seems to be losing afterwards, but the best that they can hope for is a draw with perpetual check

Because the king is exposed and there is a mating net after Rh1 + check, Knight takes rook on h1, the other rook recaptures with check, after which there are no more interventions, the king has to move followed by the queen checkmating next move, Qh7++ checkmate!
