My mama taught me to make these scacciati with broccoli, potato, bits of pork sausage and black olives with a sprinkling of pecorino Romano. Alternatively, with mixed spinach and mozzarella. For a sweet version, she made them with sweetened whipped ricotta and berries. Impanati remain a delicious favourite in our home 😋

this type of food is made in my home town, Modica. In Modica, there is also a special type of chocolate. The chocolate recipe is known to have arrived in Modica through the Spanish, who themselves brought the recipe from South America. In Modica, the chocolate processing has remained unaltered throughout the years... I guess with the impanate is the same thing, since they are originally from South America!
