He cannot drive his own line. As a supposed center, getting paid 8.5 million, he should be able to drive his own line. It's only when he's next to McD when he scores all these points... He should have got 7 tops. And yes.that 1.5 million counts, as it all adds up in the end. Look at successful teams, they don't sign a guy who at the time, had 1 great year. To get that money, you should be able to do that for at least 2-3 seasons. Time to wake up Oiler fans, you're going to go down in history as the joke of the league....Minus what you did 40 years ago.

@gsards
@gsards 5 жыл бұрын
Not McLellan's fault? The guy refuses to match lines, refuses to manage player's minutes and McDavid has to play 30 minutes every night, refuses to give young players a long leash (but when it comes to plugs like Lucic and Caggiula his leash suddenly becomes long), refuses to change the most ridiculous power play setup in the history of the sport with 5 lefties, refuses to let Manny Vivieros manage the powerplay even though that's what he was brought in to do. Plus he gets out coached every night and is simply clueless about how to integrate young players. Talks about "Accountability" when it comes to Puljujarvi, but veterans get no accountability, get moved up the line up quicker than the young guys. Yeah, Chiarelli has done a horrid job, but McLellan is not blameless one bit. You can't have a head coach in charge and then say "it's the players' fault". The head coach is there for a reason, and that is to get the best out of the players, not the other way around.

PC fired him so that he could keep his job. Chia should've been fired but there's no point firing him during the season and Todd actually was a terrible coach, at least for this team. He never line matches, played Lucic in very stupid roles, predictably would put out the 4th line after goals (for) and commercial breaks. HE ran the PP and it has been ineffective, predictable and outright terrible the past two seasons, he refused to change it up last year until it was too late. Doesn't make in game adjustments at all. Lousy, stubborn coach.

The Penguins, are almost last in their conference. I don’t think they are going to dump players. Sometimes, it’s about line synergy, perfect travel throughout the season, no injuries to key players, players confidence in their role, no family tragedies, no personal tragedies, key relationship with management. Dry land training, in the gym consistency, Video play watching, strategy, team play, practice shots and drills. It comes down to so many factors that collapse a season or bring the wins.

I've been saying that to Oilers fans for years in Edmonton. McDavid is the only good thing about this team and he'll get sick of losing and want to leave. There is no way a player of that calibre with that amount of talent will want to keep losing, he'll want to go to a team That's a legitimate contender so he'll have a chance to win a Cup. Draisaitl is not worth 8.5 million. Talbot couldn't stop a beach ball and the D is razor thin. The league keeps getting better, the players keep getting better and the margin for error is smaller and smaller and they're not competing.
@Porkleaker

Disagree on Draisaitl, but otherwise have it right. Also, I believe the major problem with the goaltending here is on Schwartz, the goaltending coach. Talbot WAS good, trash now. They had good prospects in Dubnyk and Laurent Brossoit, look at them right now lmao. It's like once the goalies get away they start playing amazingly, surprised the management hasn't questioned that or done something, oh wait..no I'm not, it's the Oilers, they just continue doing the same old "business as usual" routine, hoping they can scrape by into the playoffs once every decade...Pathetic.

Draisaitl is good. He does not deserve any critism yet. Sure, he looked lazy when moved off Connors line, but he is producing at a career best rate now. Nuge has been very good, Klefbom and Larsson look decent, Nurse is looking good. But then what? Chiasson and Koskinen has been good pick ups, but its not enough. A trade needs to be made, but we cant trust Chiarelli to make a trade! Imagine Puljujärvi or Yamamoto and a second for a top 4 defenceman? For a top 6 winger? A third line center? Anything to bolster the depth. Edmonton is lucky enough to have two elite forwards (1elite/1franchise) they just need depth. A solid D man, a third line center and 2 solid wingers, 1 for Connor and 1 for Nuge. Trade prospects and assets to rebuilding teams for that should not be impossible.

Mcdavid, didn’t sign long term with Edmonton because of Edmonton. He signed because he got two things. Milan Lucic, as his guard and a strong relationship with Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky, pretty much went up to him and stated, they want me to sign long term and become an investor in the team. I can’t be here without you Conor, because you’re going to need guidance and will become better than I ever was. Mcdavid, took that to heart and decided on 8 years instead of 6 years at 15M. It's November 2023. The Oilers have started this season 2-9-1. Leon Draisaitl is a UFA in 2025 and Connor McDavid is a UFA in 2026. Drasaitl has been there for ten seasons and McDavid for nine seasons. Darisaitl is eligible for a contract extension in July 2024 and if I was in his position there is no way I'm committing eight more years to an organization that can't get their act together. Same thing if I was in McDavid's position. Both of them are gonna want out. McDavid has a full NMC that took effect in 2022 and would have complete control over where he would like to play if Edmonton wants to trade him. Update: My comment aged horribly. The Oilers are now in the finals for the first time since 2006.

hall for larsson was probably the most abysmal trade in the last 10 years of the NHL. i know larssons father past away recently so i can sympathize with him, but for edmonton to make that trade and put that much pressure on larsson to perform like it was a fair trade is outrageous and embarrassing from a franchise

Yeah, Todd was such a good coach that couldn't even line match, run a power play and would make stupid moves like stapling Lucic to McDavid's line. Great coach. Have you ever watched an Oilers game? Like how immediately after the Oilers would score Todd would throw out the 4th line and bang, opposing team scores. Good coaches don't make these stupid mistakes every single night and they certainly know how to line match.

Two years ago when they "Caught everyone cold" they had a winning record against all Pacific division teams. Everyone in the Pacific knew what the Oilers were capable of doing, except these clowns who only get LeafTV. And if you want to watch consistent hockey playing in Edmonton, look at them under Hitch. They're playing .750 hockey with the best sv% in the league. And the Hall trade needs to be understood in context. They signed Lucic the day after they traded Hall with the reasonable assumption that Lucic would play top six minutes and get top six points. Larsson was essentially for free. Now Looch is thriving. Hall's in last place. And Larsson's steady as a rock. I'll take that trade any day.

As a Bakersfield Condors fan (the AHL team of the Oilers), there is a lot of help coming, as long as Chiarelli (or the next GM, whoever it is *Come on Stevie Y*) isn't an idiot and lets the prospects develop. Also, help is supposed to be Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Hebig, Benson, Marody, Bear, Jones, Lagesson, Samorukov, Maksimov, Starrett, Wells, and Skinner. There are prospects here that can and will help the Oilers in the coming years. Just give them a year or so. Watch.

Even with last night's win, this team is McDavid. Without him they lose most nights by far. Having said that, he's so good, all it takes is a hot goalie for the rest of the year and they're saved.

the team isnt very good. its not anyones fault. edmonton has 3 solid forwards and 2 good defensman (nurse and benning are still developing). edmonton needs some to add depth forwards and a goalie to get back on track. tank for a top tier forward get rid of contracts and package them with picks or retain some salary and sign bobrovsky and they may be a good team next year.

It was Todd’s fault. He hasn’t accomplished anything like look at the sharks. The season after he left they make it to the finals with almost the same roster. Todd wouldn’t play the rookies and would change the lines every period of a game. The fans hated him and he was bringing the team down, the oilers have a accomplished coach now for once

@@Unkn0wnGuy He's right, Todd never line matched, couldn't make in-game adjustments, kept giving Lucic prime PP mins, 5 lefties on the PP, benches rookies even when they're successful, that one time he played Lucic 3 on 3 lmao.....Never uses a timeout, throws players under the bus all the time even though it was his dumbass that put them out there. He's in love with Benning, a barely AHL level D just because he shoots right. I could go on and and on and on but Theo is right, he was a terrible coach.

Wrong, its management. Players can only play within their own strengths. But their weakness are showing due to the lack of team play. No offence to McDavid. If there was 2 McDavid's, the Oilers would still suck and this is up to management to access a team. From the 6 D to 13 forwards, and 2 goalies.
