I'm back with a two-part video. The first part of this video is about my new side channel called "Undulations ASMR". I've got an 10-minute channel trailer over there, so check it out if you're interested (and subscribe). Here is the link:

The second part of this video is for Bastl Kastle fans, especially those that were interested in the setup that I mentioned in a community post a while back, what I call a "Floating Kastle" patch. HEADPHONES REALLY HELP TO HEAR THIS PATCH (one Kastle on each channel). I'll put patch notes and some more discussion down in the timeline. Thanks for watching!
TIMELINE
00:00 STARTER
I think that I originally shot 10-12 minutes of this setup, trying to get some timing right, and this is some alternate footage (just mainly to show that the initial half-powered sounds are somewhat unpredictable).
00:06 INTRO
A discussion of the side channel (Undulations ASMR) and a couple of relevant clips. The first clip is part of the opening shot of the channel trailer over there. I'm using stereo contact microphones (piezos) and a stencil from a cut plotter (Silhouette). The second shot is kind of random, but I used a combination of some post-processed Arturia MicroBrute synth sounds and some much more current 'tapping' sounds from an escrima practice stick with a stereo mics (also in the asmr channel trailer). I like the contrasting texture of a recorded sound and a synthesized sound. I said "cross-pollenization" in this part (i.e. between the two channels), but I don't think that's a word. Cross-pollenation. I think I was mixing in 'fertilization' for some reason (or cross-polarization, which is another thing entirely).
04:01 DISCUSSION
Here are some notes for the patch. The seven 'across' patches are given as KASTLE_DRUM--KASTLE_1.5 - pMOD--TRI, dMOD--SQR, i/o_L--OSC_OUT, NOISES--MINUS, DECAY--WAVE, LFO--tMOD, and CLOCK--pMOD. The 3 Kastle Drum self-patches are: PATT-DECAY, minus--NOISES, and i/o_R--DRUMS. The 3 Kastle 1.5 self-patches are PLUS--MODE, WAVE--STEP, and OSC_OUT--2nd_OSC. The knob settings for the Kastle Drum are: dMod(max), pMod(130), tMod(min), Decay(230), Drum(830), Pitch(1030), and Tempo(900). The knob settings for the Kastle 1.5 are: pMod(1130), tMod(1200), rMod(min), Wave(830), Pitch(830), Timbre(min), and Rate(1230).
Five of the KASTLE_DRUM--KASTLE_SYNTH patches are for cross-modulation, one of them is for grounding (NOISES-MINUS), and one of them is for audio transport (i/o_L--OSC_OUT). Then, the Kastle Drum self patches help with grounding (minus--NOISES), audio (i/o_R--DRUMS), and spreading modulation (PATT--DECAY), and the Kastle 1.5 self patches change the 1.5's mode (PLUS--MODE), merge the 1.5's oscillators (OSC_OUT--2nd_OSC), and spread modulation (WAVE--STEP).
09:39 FLOATING KASTLE [HEADPHONES!]
See patch notes above. One thing that I didn't mention in the video: if you have a big enough screen (or just look closely), you can see the Kastle 1.5 vibrate on the patch cable structure when I flip the Drum's switch. The visible resonant frequency comes from a relatively large mass (the 1.5 with batteries) on a relatively weak spring. I think it kind of makes the shot, gives a clear solidity to what is being shown. I originally thought I would just show the setup running, maybe add some LED's to the patchpoints. I ultimately decided that this would just complicate the setup without really adding to it. I also decided that turning the Drum on/off would be a good thing to include. This led to some insights, see below.
10:28 OUTRO
I discuss the effect of having an 'on' Kastle (the Synth, on top) hooked to an 'off' Kastle (the Drum, on bottom). Some pretty wild noise sounds! Not 100 percent sure what is going on here, but I'm planning to experiment some more along these lines. Again, caveat emptor about doing unusual stuff with your gear, but this seems pretty safe.
