I've been on SSRIs for about 20 years, off and on. SSRIs but blunt libido a bit but I never had any issues getting it back when I went off. I think a lot of guys who have ED experience it due to their mental illness (anxiety/depression) and not related to PSSD, which I don't believe is actually a real thing. Everyone wants to blame the drug but no one wants to hold their mental health, age or diet responsible.

There is one side effect that acures only when you've got PSSD and never from depression, and it is genital Anastasia/numbness. PSSD is a real and scientifically proven horrible condition. You can read about it, there is very little research about it, but it is definitely a real condition. Telling PSSD Patients that maybe its because of their mental health is almost gaslighting. and for the comment before you: I wish you'll get better. I am now a first degree student in brain study, and my goal is to do everything I can to help and find out as much as I can about PSSD. So I hope this gives a little hope ❤@hojo70

PSSD (post Ssri sexual dysfunction) is a real and scientifically proven horrible condition. You can read about it, there is very little research about it, but it is definitely a real condition. Telling PSSD Patients that maybe its because of their mental health is almost gaslighting. There is one side effect that acures only when you've got PSSD and never from depression, and it is genital Anastasia/numbness. and to the people who suffer from this horrible condition: I wish you'll get better. I am now a first degree student in brain study, and my goal is to do everything I can to help and find out as much as I can about PSSD. This is one of the main purposes in my life. So I hope this gives a little hope, stay positive, there are good people trying to figure this out!!! And we will ❤

SSRI has really helped me out. I suffer from moderate to severe depression. My wife also doesn't really get involved in sex which makes it pretty boring. The SSRI has lifted my mood. It's also for the most part killed my sex drive. It's kind of a double win for me.

Sometimes the side effects are not irreversible. Theres permanent side effects like PSSD (post ssri sexual dysfunction) Its basically chemical castration

There’s no proof of it being permanent. Mine lasted about 1.5 years, but it reversed itself. Unless you have concrete proof, stop scaring people.

@@SugaFree2387 lots of people have been reporting that their libido hasnt returned after discontinuation of the meds even years after theyve stopped. Also theyre experiencing genital numbness. Stop gaslighting and shaming those you have been harmed by these ssri and snri antidepressants

Because i live in UK, one thing that has always irritated me slightly with USA citizens is when they refer to medicines via their brand or proprietary name, because although i know most of them anyway, it's more accurate to use the generic name when discussing effects, in my opinion. I'm a bit OCD tho so that's probably why lol

The reason people switch partners because of sexual disfunction on SSRI’s is because they think it’s the wrong person for them because they don’t feel like sex with them. They don’t pick the Zoloft over the partner

I need some help. So I'm on Paxil for a while - a few hours after I take it I feel super hyper (maybe because I just ate or because the sun is out)... But then later I get emotional blunting and zero motivation to do anything. I'm feeling dizzy and angry. It's like I'm sitting on a chair, feeling restless, but at the same time it's actually so depressing. Is this normal? Anything I can do about it? And that's just the mental/emotional effects. The physical effects are very severe - nausea, diarrhoea, feeling like I have COVID... But I'm willing to put up with that, plus sexual side effects, if for once in my life I don't feel anxiety and like I wanna give up on life. I'm stuck in a repetitive cycle of irritation and overthinking. Can't even sleep, can't even watch a movie. It's just me and my thoughts that are killing me. Especially after waking up - I'm super hyped, but then I just don't want to move anymore... Brain fog, can't focus on anything.

You haven’t mentioned suicidal thoughts and urge to commit suicide as an SSRI side effect. It’s a rarely discussed side effect but now it’s officially admitted by the drug companies

If I recall there's conflicting evidence on this. People who start ssris are more likely to have suicidal thoughts and to commit suicide, but that's in contrast to people who don't take it. It's very hard to distinguish the root cause

Given the detail you give on tradeoffs and considerations, I'd love to be informed by your take on MAO inhibitors generally, and especially newer therapies like selegiline patch that have lower dietary risks. As a not prescriber, the fact that ECT is considered, at least ever, as preferred to MAOIs is difficult to understand. Do many psychiatrists think every patient is completely mindless and will go home, immediately eat a wheel of gouda, and instantly die? Or are the side effects even with dietary restriction compliance really that much worse than for SSRIs that the significantly higher efficacy still isn't worth it? An interesting comparison to me is that haloperidol seems reached for without hesitancy in certain settings, so it can't be just oldness that makes MAOIs less preferred, because haloperidol is directly neurotoxic but NOT more effective than several atypicals.

I have ben treated for depression since age 17,and tried Tricyclics anti-depressants, and then years nothing. In the 1990's I got depressed again. I tried some of the new SSRi's and some made me very anxious. The Dr. gave me Paxil, Ativan, and Trazadone for sleep. I was ok but a few times felt I was speeding and over energetic especially after the gym. After a year I stopped, then tried Paxil, again and too much anxiety. I tried Effexor, and too much nausea, and after 1 week, I had to stop it. When Mirtazapine came out in the 1990's,my Dr. told me it may make me sleepy, so take it HS.I was knocked out for almost 2 wks ,took naps after work, at 37 yrs old, and started to eat everything. I called the Dr. and stopped it Strangely tried Mirtazapine a year ago, at a low dose, as I was having trouble sleeping. I slept well, no appetite increase, yet my sex drive increased a lot, and I was ok with it, Then 2 months late, I started having mouth movements. It was the only new medication. so my Dr and I stopped it and 2 wks later still trouble sleeping and increased depression. I went back on Mirtazapine, as my Dr. said it shouldn't cause Tardia Dyskinesias it isn't an antipsychotic medication. We resume, and the mouth movement are back. Now I'm on Celexa, which doesn't cause me anxiety, and may help with it. It doesn't cause many side effects except sexual, and I take a herbal pill for that, and I'm single. I can't take trazadone for sleep so I am on Ambien, which doesn't bother me.

I fukn love this video :). Just got back from the doctor, I wasn't happy with Venlafaxine (I had the problems you mention here with it) He literally asked me what I wanted to try next. I rolled the dice and chose Bupropion. Based on this video, thinking my choice may be ok. We will see. Thanks for video.
