You said that it is called a thrust because it moves in a straight line. Does a strike always move in a certain way?

Most strikes move in a slight curve. But not always. For example, Arc-Hand Strike moves in a straight line. Thrusts and strikes are defined by the purpose of the technique rather than the way they move. A thrust cuts into a vital spot, like poking it, and uses a pointed tool with very small surface area. A strike is used to smash the target, like using a hammer.
