Side Glides for Lumbar Spine Disc Pain (Correct the Shift)

If you have a disc bulge with pain one side that’s not getting better with extension, or you have a shift in the spine with the pain then you have probably been given McKenzie side glides to help.
Here is my run down on how to do them correctly and what you need to be doing depending on what side the pain is on and which way you are shifted.

Doesn't the McKenzie Principle focus on centralization by moving AWAY from the pain (i.e. the direction of preference) not toward the aggravating direction?

That's what is being demonstrated here. The pain is on the right and he's moving left. We don't want to stretch the pain side but create some healthy compression off the nerve. There are also factors like pelvic anterior or posterior rotations that could make someone feel more pain. Very important to follow up with a PT or physio

@KineticSense_byVictoria He's moving towards the painful side with lateral flexion. He even says to stop just before that pain is reproduced and return. I see what he is trying to do which makes sense to improve range but it seems to go against the true McKenzie principle which would be lateral flexion away from pain laterally or extension for a flexion aggravated bulge
