It's commonly rather known as the Powell raise. Even without weights a great mobility move. Side lying increases a/p dimensions, horizontal abduction creates a reciprocal turn without causing much strain on the shoulder. Basically an arm bar without the roll and the head turn. 🎉

I see some people do this on an angled bench while others do on Flat bench. Which is better? and what exactly is the difference?
@bsmitley Жыл бұрын
Main difference will be affect of gravity and the line of pull. Flat would be preferred because you'll get the most from gravity. The incline honestly just makes it easier to stay in position.

Is it normal to feel pain in medial/front delts when doing this? I get it every time I do the exercise
@bsmitley Жыл бұрын
Is this pain while doing the movement, or afterwards? You'll feel a bit of medial delt as it's getting some work. But this should be felt mainly in the posterior delt. Sounds like you might have some anterior impingement. Do any other rear delt exercises (chest supported, bent over, machine, etc) reproduce that pain?
@Jack.Tucker Жыл бұрын
@@bsmitley the pain occurs during the exercise in between my medial and anterior delt. No other exercises seem to cause the same pain. The pain also seems to ease after a set or two

@@Jack.Tucker I'm guessing there is some sort of impingement then. Sorry I can't be of much more help. It's a super lengthened position, so it could even be something is tight and once you get it warmed up it feels better, but this is something very specific that likely an Ortho or PT would need to diagnose, which is outside my scope.

No worries. Thank you for taking time to answer my queries

How much weight are you using?
@bsmitley Жыл бұрын
In this video only 10lbs. You really don't need much weight with this exercise, especially if you crank the reps up.
