The JKD sidekick is no joke. Very underused, I have no idea why. It's one of my favorite moves when I spar muay thai guys.

The problem with the side kick is the slide forward - this telegraphs it too much. Instead, I cut out the slide forward so my weight is already on back foot and the side kick is already chambered and ready to be fired out. This is also excellent for stop-kicking because it’s faster without the slide forward. So, if you look at the position Teddy is in *after* he’s slid forward, I’m already in that position - weight slightly on back foot. I actually prefer it as a veiled stance. In fact, I actually used this in a real fight situation many years ago, and it worked very well. As my opponent was mouthing off and advanced towards me I nailed him with it in the shin. Maybe it’s worth you checking out. I personally find it much better without the step or the skip.

Are side kicks above the waists are more advanced kicks?
@NYMartialArtsAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Just requires more hip flexibility and dexterity of the leg 👍

Low sidekicks are obviously the easiest to execute and can be very damaging. In a street context, it's easy to break someone's knee and "inflict respect" as Bruce Lee would say it. However, above the waist and even the head isn't too hard to do either. If you know how to utilize your PIA out of the 5 ways of attack, you can sidekick people in the head easily. Fake low, hit high. Or, throw 3 reverse hook kicks and then hit with a direct sidekick to the face. In JKD, our reverse hook kick is the same kick as the TKD hook kick, just named differently.

What type of kick does Bruce Lee use when kick Bob Wall into those extras? Is it a switch side kick?
