Sidequest VR and Sideloading for Pico 4 & Neo 3 Link, NO PC required!

quick video showing two easy ways you can sideload with the pico 4 and neo 3 link.
sideloading without a PC is possible, you can either do everything through the headset browser, or send links from your phone to your headset- a much simpler and easier solution than typing awkwardly in VR.

Sidequest have now provided a direct download link so you can save even more time Simply type sdq.st/get into Pico browser in headset, or share the link through the Pico vr mobile app This will automatically start the download of the APK. You will still need to be signed into sidequest on either your mobile web browser or in Pico browser to do the pairing code as part of install.

sidequest is pain in the .ss,I have done everything open account devoloper all of'em but no did not detect pico 4

@@faruk-tn6jv if connecting to pc, you will need to enable usb debugging. Off the top of my head, you need to go Pico 4 settings, general, the about section and click the software version multiple times until you see a developer tab appear on the left side, then in that menu at the top you'll have option to enable usb debugging.

The problem is I already created organisation at meta website and opened my developer debug settings inside my headset. when I connect pico 4 to oc via usb cable Quest doesn't detect it cos I can't use software on my android phone.

@@faruk-tn6jv there should be no issues mixing and matching both. If you are running ADB (sidequest) when either one is connected, then you'll probably find the other does not show, thats normal. For Pico 4, you do not need sidequest on PC at all, any apks you have saved you can simply drag onto Pico storage, or if you need the sidequest store you can access that as shown in video through headset. For quest 2, you need to use sidequest as it's more complicated getting apks onto headset there. If you still have issues connecting to storage, then kill the sidequest process in task manager and try again with a different usb port on your pc.

Great video! A question though, what is that icon you have next to close app, minimise app? On what is version is your pico? I haven't seen this yet

This is the 'light off' feature that's returned from the neo 3 link ( I previously had a rant video at the sideloading being worse) It's now called immersive mode but not everyone has this yet, It seems there are different builds pushed on 5.3.2 (latest Pico 4 update) so some people have it and others don't. I'm not sure why it's not showing for everyone yet but has at least returned and should be with everyone for the next update I imagine, clicking it makes the environment around the window dark, essentially 'turning off the lights'. If it's not showing for you after updating to 5.3.2 and doing a factory reset, it will likely follow in the next update.

pico account is simply an email address, a username and a password, there is no personal details required, your purchases will be linked to that email so if you are using a throwaway email don't forget what email address was used.

@@volkinaxe then there really isn't many, if any VR headsets now you can use. something like the Somnium VR1 apparently will not need any sort of accounts, but you do still need steam VR and gaming PC to use it, so still need a steam account.

@@volkinaxe for logins on standalone it's so you can have a collection of apps tied to an account, every standalone has its own store so this is expected. Will be no different if valve release a standalone you'll need steam account to use steam VR on it. Unfortunately because of piracy it's actually been made worse for the normal consumers. Pico didn't need any account when I had neo 3 link on release. Now you do need one, but once signed in that's it. It doesn't force you to use anything else than an email address which can be a throw away, meta by comparison need you to install a phone app and allow location, WiFi and Bluetooth to even get past the sign in screen even if you do have an account. Really doesn't bother me needing accounts, you'll miss out on VR for a very long time waiting for something that didn't need a login of some sort

I'm kind of desperate, this is off topic; but i don't have access to all the pico neo games on the store, plus I can't update contractorsvr. I have a 3eye pro any advice, o searched on forums etc can't find anything.

Pro is the enterprise version, it does not have the store and entirely different firmware. There are ways you can apparently flash EU neo 3 link firmware to China headsets and mix and match across neo 3/ pro/ 3 link but I don't have any resources to link to or know if it actually works.

Linux makes things incredibly complicated, you'll need to seek help from alvr/alxr as I do not use those applications.

As video explains, sidequest is a bit messy, some apps are actually oculus titles which will not work on a Pico.

You need to go to the link it shows you on a web browser, I use my phone to do this, if you are not already logged in on your mobile web browser it may ask you to do so before letting you do the pairing code.

@@phillea708 if it's installed in the headset as video shows, in your game library you'll have tabs on the left side for 'all' 'apps' and right at the bottom of that list you'll have ''unknown''. The sidequest installs will be in that ''unknown'' section.

As explained in the video, if it's made for quest 2 it will not launch, sidequest website is messy and some games tagged as Pico even when they are not
