It's been a decade since I was last in Patong. Watching your walking tour let me reflect on my own travel wishes for the future. I now realize that I've moved on from the tourist / party scene but I wouldn't have know that for sure until I watched this - so Thank You for resetting my goals. Always looking forward to your videos.

Agreed Edward. It's great to see the Patong/BangLa vibrant energy back but I'm down for max 48 hrs of full-on and then on my way lol. But I'll be back to tour around the Island later as we both know there's much more to Phuket than BangLa etc and much chiller too.

Love the fact that most tourists are herd animals and overpopulate certain destinations like Phuket, Pattaya, BKK, Chiang Mai. It keeps the rest of Thailand relatively safe and enjoyable

Not just tourists...in my country not one wants to go regional they all wanna stay in the big cities...jobs go begging in regional Australia...and where I'm from (the most beautiful place in Australia!!) Tasmania; it's seen as a backwater,hahaha! We are herd animals the world across, bro!You just happen to buck the trend 😊
@dudgielovechild9239 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't say herd mentality (don't forget, animals travel in herds for safety). Most people want to go where the entertainment's at. Which happens to be the places you've mentioned. Most countries are the same.
@fruitloops3718 Жыл бұрын
Amen to that. I was thinking it might not be possible to find my paradise in Asia as all the places I planned to retire before are now overrun with tourists. Not complaining but thankful for the herd mentality.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone watching this, that's there's one more transportation option from the Phuket airport, the official taxi stand. Most tourists see the those Kiosks advertising Taxi - Minibus by the doors and don't realize if they turn left there and keep walking there's an official taxi stand that works much the same as the official taxis at the Bangkok airports.
@larswetterstrom7209 Жыл бұрын
In my experience it is a decent price going FROM the airport to Phuket with vans with many different customers. This is controlled. The problem is going back TO the airport. That could be a shame.
@SideTripLife Жыл бұрын
I paid 200 Baht to return to the airport, simply jumped in the Airport Van by the beach

My last trip back in November to Phuket I went with a friend and we ended up in RaiWai. It’s a great place to stay, much more chill very friendly vibe, good nightlife and beautiful beaches nearby. Renting a motorbike is essential as there’s a lot to explore around the local area! Got to meet a few long term expats who love it too!

Hi Roy. You just missed the rush methinks. I too was headed to Rawai area with a plan to get a condo for a month and tour around. Looked on both FB & AirBnb and availability plus any deals are fairly scarce at this time. So will regroup and try again after Songkran.
@benny7882 Жыл бұрын
Rawai is perfect if you want to avoid all the crowds, and its very much affordable and peacefull compared to patong indeed. Nice area to stay if you want to live in phuket.

@mattbryan8535 Жыл бұрын
I am no doubt in the minority - but I love the chaotic edgy craziness that Patong offers and wouldn't choose anywhere else to be in Phuket,but that's just me...I get why others choose the more laid back serene,relaxed places in Phuket(everyone's different). Look hard enough and there's somewhere on this island that offers something for most...😉
@SideTripLife Жыл бұрын
Judging by the numbers, you're not alone. Many like to stay in Patong exactly for the reasons you described, energy, buzz, night life, plus the beach, malls, markets etc all within walking distance. Then use Patong as a home base and explore the island. Phuket is a BIG island with something for everyone.

'Phuket is expensive and Pattaya is cheap' is an often used comparison... In Patong, move back away from the beach and the Bangla area to Soi Nanai(plus its surrounds)and prices are very similar to Pattaya... I spend plenty of time in both cities and find zero difference in cost...
@SideTripLife Жыл бұрын
Great comment. Nanai Rd many great little cafes, bars, guesthouses, you name it and yes, Pattaya like prices. Instead some CHOOSE to go straight to the most expensive American restaurant or Irish Pub etc in tourist central and proclaim "Phuket's expensive!' (lol;) Still, even on Bangla, can find beer prices like on Buakhao, or, CHOOSE to spend a lot more at a western chain etc and then complain about the prices... up2u as they say.
@Swaggerlot Жыл бұрын
@@SideTripLife Second the comment on Nanai, plus its still walkable to the beach. I heard from locals that there were plans to turn Nanai into a second entertainment complex (sadly).
@MrAliCAN6566 Жыл бұрын
Well, I am currently in Patong, Phuket and I would say that is expensive place to be. Unless, you prefer outskirt places a little bit more cheaper compare to Patong. I was in different areas of Thailand. For example I stayed in Pattaya, it was fairly cheap and good accomodation at reasonable price comes bit of luxury, food cheap , transport amazingly cheap and plenty. But, Phuket another level and really expensive. Just give you little example,. I travel about 1.2 miles to beach side and cost minumum 100 baht on motor, and same distance in pattay cost 35 baht.. Food and drinks twice of pattaya.. So, yes it is expensive place to be, but I am here just for sake of seen the place, nothing special except couple places need to be seen then it's over. These are my live opinion as I am in Phuket now.. thanks all.

I just started watching your channel several days ago and love it. I have been to Thailand 3 times in the past 20 years and plan on retiring there. Not sure what part though. I will have to sample a few different areas. But, thank you for all the information. One point I would like to make. You stated that the Phuket airport handles 20 million visitors a year. You may want to research that a little more. The prepandemic tourist count for 2019 was 40 million. That means that half went to Phuket. Doing the math that means that over 54,000 go to Phuket each day which translates to 2283 per hour around the clock. That seems a bit high. Still love your work. All the best to you.

If you don't have to live in Bangkok then don't. Wouldn't you rather live near a beach? You can rent 3 minutes from a beach in Pattaya for 5000Baht a month
