Literally. I grew up in Baltimore between when the Colts left for Indy (still a Colts fan tho) and before the Ravens. All I knew was Hockey, my family had season tickets to the AHL Skipjacks (eventually became the Bandits in 95/96) so I grew up a Caps fan during the Bondra days. When the lockout happened, I was just graduating High School and was SOOOOO mad. Swore it off. Ovechkin? Who cares! But then he started scoring...a lot...and Sid was this villain that we all loved-to-hate. I couldn't help it, I got sucked back in. #GoCapsGo

@chrismac55603 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Yes because they will have both left their marks as great players but also no because they'll be others who come in and steal the spotlight becoming the ones that all the young kids look up to. Similar to how one could say the NHL was never the same after Gretzky retired there was pretty quickly two young kids come and steal everyone's focus starting in 05-06. Kids growing up in the 80's and 90's looked up to Gretzky, kids growing up in late 2000's 2010's and early 2020's look up to Ovie and Sid and when they retire there will be another batch of generational greats for kids to look up to like Shane Wright, Matt Savoie, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Connor Bedard, Matvei Michkov (assuming the Russians don't stay in Russia) not to mention guys like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Auston Matthews and David Pastrnak to name a few who've fallen in the middle of that, so honestly one could argue now a days we are being treated more and more to that generation talent that the young kids look up to

As they say, there is always new talent in the pipeline. There are some great young players now and more to come. The key will be is too see how long the new "kids" play in the league. What's "amazing" about these two guys is with all the years they have played, games played and all the ice-time they get, they still can play as top 5 players in the league. Crosby is still one of the best all around players in the NHL. As far as the interview went, it was pretty lame. I was expecting a lot more from it.

Ok. I like both Ovie and Crosby and I was half way through this comment, ignorantly complaining about how they're too serious and can't lighten up about their two amazing HOF careers. And then the last question came up and made me realize that they have respect for each other, but more respect for their own career, family, organization, team, and fanbase to give up that competitive spirit that drives this game forward; to be the very best this sport has ever seen. And maybe I'm giving too much credit to the people around them, they both have a fire unparalleled with 99.9% of NHL players. I'm just glad they both have a cup and still aren't satisfied until they can lift it again. That's the definition of an icon.

The interviewer must’ve called them old like 5x 😂. They still have fuel in the tank, and remain among the best players in the league.

Ovi still has one of the best shots and Crosby still does things that not many can do. These two will play at least 4 to 5 more years

I never watch Hockey games, don't even know the rules, but when I read commentaries it makes me search more about this guys and hockey 🏒

A couple of years ago, Crosby sat out some part of the all star weekend stuff and him and Murray went to Jackson Hole WY. While there, Crosby just casually dropped in at the local rink and skated with a few buddies of mine. I have a pic of Crosby and my buddy in the corner waiting to do a quick corner drill or something and it is surreal. I talked to my buddies after and they said they couldn't even describe how good Crosby was on the actual ice with them. We all played junior together and a lot of us went on to college and pro, but no one played in the NHL or with a guy like this. His shot was basically invisible until it hit something, and no one is getting the puck from him, ever. He said it stripped any bit of hockey ego off him that he ever had. Never felt like a worse player than the day he skated with Sid ahahahah

2009 when they both played against each other and scored hat tricks. I was cheering for both. Awesome game.

You can tell they don't like talking about the prospect of their careers being close to an end. It will be a sad day when they retire. It's crazy that i'm only in my 20's but i've watched their entire NHL careers unfold.

happens to all of us bud. i was a kid when 99 was breaking into the league. This is the first time in my life (40s) that I'm watching a player chase down an insane record that I actually watched be set. Normally, those records are guys that played decades before I was born too. Life is crazy.

Same here bruh. 27 now and was like what 11 or 12 when these guys came in the league. Big void when these guys will be gone for sure then McDavid and matthews will.be next then I'll feel real old

Can't help smiling watching this interview. Both are incredible players and great people. I think Ovechkin is an even bigger ambassador for the sport than Crosby is. Both are great

Non biased hockey fan here. These 2 will be forever joined at the hip. Crosby had more team success early, but Ovi got his cup. He will eventually get the goal scoring record too. If Russia were to get an Olympic gold that would be poetic justice. Hope they go into the hall at the same time.
