The different exhaust makes this sound a lot meatier than a normal Deltic, until all the gear clatter on shut down, that is ! I can't wait to see it completed and on the mainline.

I know its on test but it sounds so weird coming from a Class 37!!! lol I grew up with these, see 37's on a regular basis, their distictive 'tractor' voice, you just knew what was before she appeared in view. But hearing that sound coming from that loco, 30 years being around them, struggling to get my head round it! lol Great vid mind, liked and faved ;)

Great idea. Gives us the chance to see what a baby sounded like 😁. And, kinda looked like. Near enough for a young kid!

Best engine sound ever. Reckon the Class 68 is the best modern diesel sound.
@AMOGLES996 жыл бұрын
sounds sweet, probably not had many operating hours though, seeing the class was withdrawn so early.

The engine, the last Baby Deltic engine in existence, was a wreck when they got it. It was seized absolutely solid. Mucho respect for rebuilding it.

I reckon the body shell is just used as something to start and run the thing. It will have all the nes' starting circiutes, fuel and cooling needed to run it and play! What I'd like to know is, why does it sound better than a normal Deltic? Its finaly a Deltic noise that I like!
@vinniecross10926 жыл бұрын
possibly due to it being 1/2 a deltic engine and only one of them rather than a pair, oh and its turbocharged.
@pizzaplanettruck9761 Жыл бұрын
Yeah most likely because its turboed.

Always thought deltic 16 could have been turned into DP2, plenty class 50 engines available,would release 2 deltic engines into the spares pool and create a loco we lost so early.if DP2 hadnt been written off it would have gained a blue repaint and a cheap buy from english electric, like they got with falcon.ER always wanted 23 deltics.

Big Deltic has a mechanical driven supercharger whereas the Baby Deltic has a Turbocharger hence the different exhaust note. 0:58

Would anyone happen to know the axle load and route availability for the Class 23 as I have had no luck finding this out. It's a shme they were all scrapped, they sound incredible.
@neildahlgaard-sigsworth38195 жыл бұрын
frillock the RA was 5 (Preparation and Working of Freight Trains (5/5/69)). The axle load was 18 ton 11 cwt (BR Diesel Locomotive Diagram book). Both on the Barrowmore MRG's web site.

how much hp did the baby deltic produce?
@vinniecross10927 жыл бұрын
about 1100hp
@rogertycholiz22186 жыл бұрын
Baby produced 900bhp on 9 cylinders - big brother 1800bhp on18 cylinders. Figure on 100bhp per cylinder
