I got a commission from Siege, (Alarielle and Drycha) looked so great that I felt compelled to finish my sylvaneth the for new year. I did it, finished it all, 100+ models including terrain 9 trees. But I completed it in at the end of January, didn’t know I was capable of doing it that fast. Should of set more goals.

I'm listening at the podcast in random order... Some memes and debates I get backwards... But anyway you'll always inspire me in one way or the other. Been painting a little bit every night since mid February and it's becoming a routine every night. Even if I don't really feel like it I just sit and pull the models I'm working on cause now I'm much more organised and I know what I have to do next. And I always end up having a great time !

I work in Canada DND. I listen to you when I'm doing extensive inspections on aircraft. My main struggle is when starting motivated to paint at a "high level" for me, I find it hard to finish at the same level I started.

You don't even need to meet up with friends to paint, i've been having "hobby calls" with a friend the last couple months and just knowing that there's someone on the other end of a call with similar goals to you helps massively to keep me painting. Also this year has been shit financially, which has actually helped me with painting, because i'm not physically able to buy loads of models, i can only buy one box and then paint them before i buy more, which hopefully will mean i actually finish an army.

I'm another that listens whilst working. The most exciting job ever, I'm an Excise Specialist for a drinks manufacturer... I've picked a good few things from the podcasts: Refreshers are Tier S, despite no one remembering when they last had a pack Base rims should always be purple Paint in the smallest sub-assembly feasible, down to individual parts directly off the sprue .... But really, That my compressor had a bolt in the bottom of it that I should have been removing when not in use That airbrush cleaner should be diluted And to always try and my my edge highlights thinner Current projects are an Epic Encounters box from Steamforged Games and a character model for playing D&D New Years resolutions/goals Finally get around to painting my Heroquest box! Paint the Angelica android bust that's been unpainted in my cabinet for far too long Start working through my backlog of Nids, starting with the Broodlord (actually a GSC Patriarch as it's a much better sculpt IMO) Get better at thinning, layering and glazing

I had a similar issue with loads of primed models and aiming to finish an army. I created a spinner with all the units on it using a spinning wheel app and whatever it landed on I painted. Took away the issue of deciding what unit to start with and do next. Now using this method to go and finesse all my old and unfinished units.

Love the podcast, and I mostly listen to it while I'm in the car after dropping the kids off at school or on an airplane traveling for work (I am the Global Field Chief Data Officer at an AI tech company). Question for you guys - do you ever consider running painting classes in the states? Or have a recommendation for some? I'm very new to the hobby, I split the Leviathan box with my 17 year old son for his birthday this summer to get him the new Space Marines and I'm playing the Tyranids to give him someone to play with more often. I wasn't really keen on the painting part of the hobby at first, it's not something I've ever done, but with him as an in-house tutor and listening the podcast I've really come to enjoy it. I'm about halfway through painting the Tyranid army that came with it, learning a ton and really getting into the painting side, I tend to do it in the evenings while my wife and I hang out with a show on in the background. The hardest part for me right now is being reasonable and not running out to buy a second army before I finish this one. One suggestion I had in setting goals for next year is something I try to do every year: instead of making a handful of giant New Year's resolutions I will fail at, I try to set 12 goals, one each month. Some of them carry through beyond the month, but it makes it easier to sustain momentum on smaller things. For January I have a goal to paint at least once each week and if I can make that stick it will easily get me through my Tyranid army and then I can try something else! PS - I'm already a subscriber, but I'm 100% here for the piercing, James.

I actually did make a new years resolution for 2023 to completing my Necron army. l had about 500 points worth completed out of the 3k+ points I had collected, most being box sets. I started this hobby late 2021 and I really wanted more from the tabletop aspect. At first I was kinda just picking random units to paint. Then I got ahold of the Necron Boarding Patrol box set and I hunkered down and painted the whole box. It took me over a month to do but it pretty much doubled the amount of points I had for my army in one go. That box set inspired me to try and dedicate all of 2023 to finishing my box sets at the very least. Currently Im on my last box set in my backlog, I saved the Indomitus Necron half for last as a final push to the finish line.

A little late to the video but I am an Organic Chemist and listen to this podcast while in a lab generally while running reactions, working up or isolating chemicals. I do generally have to rewatch videos at home because I'll be in the lab and think "Oh! that's a good point/tip/or technique to try" but will have to table it. I love the podcast and find a lot of joy when small amounts of chemistry/science intersects painting and hobbying. I currently play CSM and Tyranids but just picked up the Tau Pathfinder Killteam for christmas (hoping this isn't the start to another army but we'll see).

Hey guys I’m fairly new to the channel and I have been listening to it whilst I work..I re enforce concrete on bridges 🤣.. on a side note on a previous episode you discussed just sitting down to work on miniatures simply to enjoy the hobby time with no other expectations on yourself other then that..enjoying it..that mind frame has helped me get out of a rut and has made me become productive in a lot of aspects in my life ..cheers guys

I listen to the podcast in the car, while painting, and at work. I work as an NMR spectroscopist (NMR stands for nuclear magnetic resonance). Basically, it’s like an MRI machine, but the magnets are much larger and I use NMRs to study the structure of proteins and small molecule drugs. So, when setting up experiments or maintaining the instruments, I’ll listen to podcasts including this one! I normally just tell people I’m a scientist, but you wanted to know how obscure or esoteric these jobs were 😂! Thanks and cheers!

Brilliant chat again gents. And totally agree with a regular social painting session either in person or online for getting you motivated. You can have the toughest week and not look at your paints and then drop into a chat and get going. Also if you do a calendar could you do the art and the artist? Would be nice to see the faces behind the talent. Also Tahlia Vedra on manticore got my vote this year. Stunning mini. AoS and Specialist games getting all the cool sculpts imho.

I have a question. I have only ever really painted models as to get an army project done to play with or ready for an event, I have never taken my time on a single model it’s always been an army project. I have recently wanted to do a display or a one off character, to see how well I could paint it. But I’m having trouble getting out of the habits of painting quickly and efficiently to get it done. Do you have any tips or ideas on how to switch from batch painting and slow down to do your best work??? Loving the podcast by the way!!! Cheers

This time of year I always revisit James Clear's 'Atomic Habits' book. Highly recommended for habit building (and breaking) in general and all of the principles are great to apply to painting: Make it obvious, make it attractive, make it satisfying, make it easy. Not the place for detail here but all feed into being process oriented instead of goal oriented. This approach has helped my general engagement and motivation with the hobby this year. Thanks for the 'cast team. Highlight of my year on the media front. Merry christmas all.

I think the only people voting for the lion are DA fans, just based purely on miniature looks he is so insanely bland, static pose, nothing new, just a big space marine with some head options, I love the faction but people are just voting for their faction miniature haha, I do like the updated ogre gorgers from AOS because it’s realising what the old sculpt was trying to be, they are so varied and characterful
