Hello from Germany! Think about buying this bike as a beginner (at age 43), think it would be perfect for commuting and travelling. Actually you don`t need more "bike". Fun fact: I`m born and raised in the district of berlin where the BMW motorcycle factory is ;-) So some periods of my life I drove by the factory every day ;-)

Best bike in the world, reliable, easy to handle and service, behaves great on-road and off-road. Get one while they are still available. BMW is far from making a similar great bike again, I wonder why they stopped making it. I have a 40% trail on the back and 40% street on the front and I love it. It's a good back road bike. And on the highway peak torque is 5000 rpm at 75 mph. So that's excellent. 5k revs for 75mph = 15mph per 1000 revs. Fine. My 2004 Dakar was the same. I have just changed the sprockets to 17 tooth front sprocket. 44 tooth rear . Now reading 17mph per 1000 revs in 5th. = just under 70mph at 4k revs. Checked speedo accuracy with speedo phone app. Bike Speedo reads close to app. Therefore 17 front, 44 rear works well for road work . Hope this is useful . Have a couple of bikes. Love this simple 650 single ❤

I heard some guys said the 1st and 2nd gears are tall so they installed a front sprocket with one that's 1 tooth smaller for better acceleration. I own this bike since 5 years, riding only in the city to go to work, in Brussels (Belgium). Same colour, cannot define if it's bleue or gray... but with Belgian weather, it's turning gray anyway. It's one of the rare trails I can ride, as I'm 5.5 (1.65m). I started riding late (45), it’s my second bike, really easy for beginners. The 650 is nice between 2000 rpm and 4000 rpm. No need to go higher, drive it like a diesel engine. One mod that can be useful, I’d like an adjustable clutch command, it's a bit too far for me. Metzeler Tourance Next are great if you ride it only on the road. OEM spare parts are not that expensive, but BMW garages make you pay a lot for the work. To be honest, reliability isn't as good as the legend says (battery, water pump, cables, electronics).

Great bike and about as practical as you can get, but the video drives me crazy. If the presenter is really a professional, why is he riding in shorts while reading the bike's stats from a list?! Come on bud, learn about the he bike ahead of time, wear proper gear and ride appropriately. And don't say women like these bikes because of their low seat height. My wife is as tall as I am and likes these bikes because they are a good all-around package: good for commuting, and just fine for traveling. Not everyone needs a big powerful bike, regardless of how tall they are.
