Nice vid ! I still use your wind call method demonstrated to this date. I cracked up seeing the bubbles. I use to do that too. Now I am getting older and chaff control is needed on long hikes. So now I use Monkey Butt Powder for wind gauge. Dual purpose. LOL

Excellent as usual. Wind call with the spruce or pine is more challenging for sure. The problem here is inconsistent wind where you have 10mph at 300m and 20mph at 600m. A good spotter to help with the call is a great asset/luxury!
@THLR
@THLR 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, luxury indeed. Everyone wants to be on the trigger. I find spruce ok IF I can add to the observation with grass or similar, but more variable if I'm only seeing those and rocks.

Great video! As You use Atec suppressors, do you have idea how long the life of that one is? How many bullets passed through before you have to change it? I use Atec Mega H2 in 300 win mag and no databases found on internet about that.
@THLR
@THLR 4 жыл бұрын
I've always used Atec supressors as it is the most easily available here. Since it works fine and it always scores amongst the top brands in the tests done by magazines here, I just never had any reason to change. The CTM4 was the first supressor small enough/ elegant enough for me to start using them and I've just followed the brand since that. I have no idea how long it will last, I've done thousands through mine and I tend to change them only if 1) I sell the rifle or barrel 2) something that seems like an upgrade in terms of size/effect comes along. The CTM I have no idea, the Optima I use now has at least 3000 through it ??? I choose suppressors after the criteria diameter/weight (I prefer slim and light) so the balance remains approximately the same, and I just take whatever effect I can get from that.

I agree with the comment about rear stock design. Most chassis rifles have a crap design for that. My ruger P included. Finding a rear bag set up for the Ruger P has become a bloody nightmare. That and no adjustable hight recoil pad. Makes for a incomplete set up. In many ways that styer prohunter of mine had a better designed stock. For the rear bag at least.

I have a personal problem with wind call today. I’m putting it down to the chilly from last night. Sorry Thomas. You are right though. It was a eye opener seeing people use the kestrel and BA app at every stage of the first match I shot in the PRL. coming from my utter crap performance from the MSRC last year. Wind call was the first on the list of priority training since.

Love the bubbles, actualy thaught of then when blowing bubbles for my son outside the other day😄 How many barrels do you consume?
@THLR
@THLR 4 жыл бұрын
I use bubbles a fair bit when I was hunting roe deer in forestry. The bubbles would fairly often show if a swirling wind was plain wrong or if it changed direction a few meters ahead. I don't really shoot a lot anymore, the filming really slows down things. I expect I'll be using 2-3 barrels every 4 years. I'm definitively not shooting a barrel per season.

I have a question for you. Would one of those adjustable legs that goes on a sling swivel at the back of the gun work at taking out some of the errors with bag placement?

You are thinking of monopods? Perhaps the newer generations, I never got the old ones to work in recoil.
@jamesmoon6042
@jamesmoon6042 4 жыл бұрын
@@THLR yes the monopod is it . I know they have changed how some are built and I was wondering if they would help with the side to side effects of what was going on. Plus on some of your terrain after looking at it again it still might be hit or miss. Just a thought
@THLR

A monopod would likely require too much time to set up. At least that's how it used to be with previous generations.

@@TH1NOR Litt cheesy, men se bedre etter. Se opp, se bak deg. Du finner som regel et hint om vindretning. Men det er en 15-25 grader naturlig variasjon i retning som er utenfor skytters oppfatningsevne.

@THLR

When there is a massive carbon buildup, it will crack and rattle like pebbles inside the silencer. Then I open it and scrape out a little. Otherwise, I don't. I'm sure the manufacturers have instructions on how-to clean.
