Hello Si. Long time American fan here. When I hear you say pipes are circa 1750, I think to myself, “Why that’s before the U.S. was a country.” (1776 Declaration of Independence). One reason I find your mudlarking so exciting is the broad historical background underneath your feet in the U.K. And one result of following you over the years is that my perception of time has widened to include the everyday activities of people who are not just seen as distant signposts in history books that have nothing to do with me. Hooray for that !

You two were having far too much fun in the mud! Fascinating to see how well those pipes had survived with less footfall over them. Si, being in the US and hearing you say you make shrapnel key rings as a reminder of ancestors who fought to keep your freedoms, brought a big smile to my face. It's nice to have a reminder of where we got our own sense of respect for our ancestors who fought for everyone's freedom; whether it was with you in the middle east and the great wars, or even against you while establishing our own country. It's nice to reflect back on things and remember how we all basically came from the same places (hope that wasn't offensive, it wasn't meant to be)!
@Sifinds5 жыл бұрын
weibie Katz Bot offensive at all. I like to think of my grandparent who either fought (Royal Tank Regiment and Royal Engineers) or helped by giving relief to the Polish when they had nothing. It’s true what Churchill said. Never was so much owed by so many to such few. We shall remember them!
@weibie5 жыл бұрын
@@Sifinds Have you ever watched the film "They Shall Not Grow Old" about Britain during the Great War 100 years ago? I adore all of the people who painstakingly restored and colorized all of this old footage, had a forensic lip reader translate what they were saying, and then speed corrected and added sound to it, and on top of that added in footage from 50 years ago of the veterans talking about their experiences. Such an amazing work I recommend everyone watch at least once in their life.
