The P228 was adopted as an alternative to the M9, for aviators, officers and folks with smaller hands. It was given the designation M11. The M11A1...for the civilian Market. Magazines in 9mm for the 228/229 as is the barrel and parts are interchangeable. My 228 was purchased in 1991, it has never failed including a lot of IPSC Stock gun shooting. 2 years ago i returned it to the factory for an action job, SRT, Night Sights and Target Crown on the Barrel. My Carry Firearm. Sweet

Hey bro, I have an M11 A-1 and really love it. Never a problem with the gun. One of my three mags is a checkmate though and it has given me 3 type 3 malfunctions (double feed) over about 1300 rounds. The other two mags are Mec-Gar mags and have been flawless. Also if you look closely at the mag it saysP229-1 on it. This is because it is a 15 round mag and the original P228 held 13 rounds. I'm told this is due to the frame being a P229 frame that will hold the 40S&W, 357Sig mags. This P229 -1 magazine is ever so slightly larger in size to the P 228 9mm mag. The others will work but they rattle a bit and not being as tight in the mag well can at times malfunction. If you use Mec-Gar mags marked P229-1 there will be NO problems from this gun. The base plate and follower is just a bit different in the checkmate then the Mec-gar and is a cheaper made product. Just my 2 cents but check it out, you will see the feeding problems go away. You just need the proper magazine for this or any gun to run right. Peace, Gunn'r

As for the slide not locking back.... I had the same issue with the only Sig I ever owned. Solution 1: Keep Right thumb from resting on the Slide Release whilst firing. Solution 2: Figured out that I had to change my grip to be able to Rely on the Sig to save my life, as my right thumb laid on the Slide Release during the firing sequence. So, I sold it. I'm not changing my grip for One Gun... Hope this helps! She is a beautiful specimen!!!

Thanks for the input and it gives me something to look at.I have a Sig 226 that doesn't have this issue so I'm a little perplexed. I think I need to get out to the range and throw some more lead at the targets with some better ammunition and see what happens. As for the material on the range; it did come from one of our local paper making mills. The material is called Papermaking Felt. The are very large belts used in the paper making process. If you do a web search for it you can find all the info you need. Thanks again for watching.

TheVABigDog My P239 doesn't lock back, but I can count to 7 and I figure that's the sign of a strong spring. It doesn't bother me. I can hit my target 7 times and I wouldn't carry or need a 2nd mag.

Interesting vid. Thanks for posting it. Your hand grip is more of a cup hold than a secondary grip. The recoil jumps your primary out of the cup hold every time. The one bad ejection may be due to lack of a strong grip. I have the M11-A1. Have shot many brands of ammo. I had a chamber failure. Turns out I wasn't gripping tightly. Since then zero failures, 5K+ rnds. I have multiple Sig's inc a P938 edc and a 716 Patrol. I surf the net looting for info and found your vids, good stuff. I'll be back for more. My comments are not intended as critique or negative, just comments from sumgai... Those with finger pointing, statement based, negative comments are commonly what keeps me from reading too many reviews as well as making a comment myself. Your response in many of the reads are the kind I'm good with. I prefer that you're honest and state a qualified opinion. I'm a weekly shooter, typically run 500rnds through the assortment of guns over a few hours. If I skip a week I'm grumpy as hell...

This particular pistol is a sig and in particular it's the m11, which in particular is a 229. particularly.

From what I remember in my Navy days these preferred hot ammo. They weren’t issued with the normal Ball ammo we had in our M9’s.

The MK11 is the replacement for the Navy's current M9. It is not a gimmick it is a fine weapon produced by Sig. Anything made for military there is going to be a civilian version as is the mk25 that is used for Navy as well. Great attempt on the review of this weapon however I think you should get a bit more knowledge before reviewing any product. Also failure to extract looked more like an operator error than an error with the weapon system. As a proud owner of Glock as well as Sigs I would buy a sig over a glock and pay the extra money for anyone questioning it.

They are a lot closer in size than I remembered. The 226 grips are 1/4" longer than the M11-A1.

The reason its not locking back is your touching the slide release. If you dont believe me try it left handed. You cant do the super high thumb over over thumb grip on a sig like you can a glock for instance.

I put in a call to my buddy that maintains the range to find out exactly what it is because frankly I don't know... and now I'm curious. I had been told it was an industrial material from a local mill. Stay tuned. - Bob

I can tell you from 5:51 to 6:08, the reason your grouping is not good is because you are not consistent with the following through. I watched that section of video many times and you're constantly re-adjusting and moving your support hand after every shot, to the point that at the end it caused you to do a double tap that was not intended. Not here to beat you up, as a pistol instructor I'm just trying give you some ideas for improvement..

Would you classify the M11-A1 as a gimmick or another quality item in the Sig lineup?
@opmike343
@opmike343 10 жыл бұрын
It's a gimmick, however it's built to the same standard as any other Sig P series pistol. That is to say, if you get one that saw some good quality control, it should last you a long time and operate reliably.

+Fire Mountain Outdoors I bought this pistol and I love it. I bought mine at the $950 range so this pistol is a guilty pleasure in my opinion. I personally don't feel this pistol is a gimmick because of its durability and accuracy so I will be keeping this pistol in my inventory. I've also never been one for night sights but it has very bright night sights.

It may be a bit of marketing gimmick, but in the same breath, if you liked the old P228 and want something newer with a machined slide but without the rail, this is it. Had mine for about a year, and I'll have it as long as I own guns.

The big issue with the extractor on this firearm is the shitty springs in the extractor. Replace it with a cut down ar15 ejector spring and you should be good to go.

Any idea where I can purchase some nice grips for my m11a1? I have the E2 grip on it now because it's not as wide as the grips it came with. If you know of any local shops let me know. (Washington of course) I always have enjoyed watching your videos and you guys have helped me make a few holster purchases already. Thanks for your help.

I sold it to help fund a new 1911 but I do kind of miss it. It was accurate and the action was incredibly smooth. The short reset trigger felt amazing and it had good night sites. It was a little bulky and heavy to conceal carry inside the waistband. If I had $900 laying around would I buy another one right now? No. But if I stumbled into another one in a good trade I would certainly consider it.

I have had mine for a month, it's reliable, it's expensive, it has more muzzle rise than any one my Glocks or M&P's, the first trigger pull reminds me of my Ruger SP101 (sucks) Compact is a choke.. it's wider than everyone of the 12 pistols I own, Magazines although came with 3 are expensive.. SRT trigger Not a big deal.. Get a Glock or an M&P save your money and your first self defense shot will be in the Zone :)
