Had one of these years ago, sold it and regretted it ever since. I just added this to my small collection of "military handguns" alongside several famous others:
Colt M1911-A1(Springfield Armoury)
Sig Sauer M17
CZ 75
Browning Hipower(Girsan)
Beretta M9-A1(Girsan)
You can read all about the development and history of the M11-A1 here:

The Sig Sauer M 11 is one fine pistol. Very classy as well as outstanding German engineering. My husband and I have two of those pistols. One we never use, while the other is used for CCW and a pistol when I'm outdoors exercising. Extremely classy pistol......one of my favorites. God bless 🙏

I had a 228 back in the early 90's- one of my dumber decisions was selling it. Finally got one of these this week. A little heavier but tougher than the old 228 with the 2 piece carbon slide. Same old perfect feel in the hand though and I love the old school, no rail layout. You're nuts if you mount a light on a pistol anyway- in your hand and as far away from your body as you can hold it is the way to go. Great sights, 3 mags, SRT trigger- ready to go, no mods needed. I did exchange the 229 marked grips with 228 marked ones for old times sake. Glad they don't stamp "229" on the new barrels as well. Yeah, I know it's basically a 229 but allow me my fond memories. PS- Dave- you got ripped- they ship from the SIG factory with 3 mags- mine came with 3 this week. Your dealer was playing games. Even M11A1 official SIG web page states "3 magazines".

I put the sig E2 grip on my m11-a1 and its been amazing. Skinnier ergos and a more stippling type grippyness to it

Gonna look into that today, seems the kit from Sig is like $40. Comes with the grip, the hammer seat, and the other parts needed....

@@SquireSCA I had an E2 grip on a 229 that I had. While it felt good in the hand, shooting it was terrible. It put my hand on every sharp edge that the gun had. I put the "older" style grip on it and it felt like a Sig should. Just my opinion but as they say YMMV. Also the 228 was used mostly by C.I.C. Not enough people appreciate the newer 228. I think you'll be a fan.

Army CID and aviators. Navy NCIS and aviators. USAF OSI. Don't think the USMC had anything to do with it. Agree about E2 grip- not for me.@@djjd3027

I like how they come with the short trigger already in them. I had a 226 that I put one in and really helped. That’s one that I should not have never sold. It was dialed in perfect for me. When I saw this A-1 used at a very great price it followed me home. I to am a fan of all metal hammer fired, looking at the Springfield 35 but they sell out before I can nab one.

The M11-A1 is the P228. I have one, it’s German made. I believe you said the M11 was a P229. I’ve made a few upgrades to it. Very nice pistol…

With all your high tension about panic operation and safety..., have you tried a Walther P99 AS ? Great design - Anti Stress.

I enjoy the Hogue G 10 grips on all of my Classic P series Sigs. Different level of grip and texture.

The 229 in .357 SIG was one of my favorites, if you want to have a hammer I'd also get a HK USP those are reliable and accurate as well. If you can find a good one, the P7M13 is a keeper

On the frame I held a magnet to the guide flanges and I noticed it did not adhere to them. Are those guide flanges aluminum and not steel?
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA 4 ай бұрын
Not sure. Not all steel is magnetic. Several types of stainless are not. When I was making armor out of various types of sheet metal, that was how we would test to see if it was mild steel or stainless. It's not 100%, but it is typical, depending on the type of steel.

Agree 100% DA for safety. Gun has no safety lever love that. My north American arms pocket .32 no safety but double action only. Can't bring myself to carry a glock with 1 in the chamber and a 4lb pull. Sig 290 RS compact 6rd DAO spurless hammer, got it. Wife and I are picking up 2 of these mid June, can't wait. My sig p229 .40 and legion .40 are too big but ready for home defense. We also put 1st round ball ammo just in case of accidental discharge. Ball does less damage than a jhp. Just ask the HK Quickdraw guy that shot himself in the leg at the range. Ball went in came out, doc said jhp would have shredded his muscles.

I do carry striker fired pistols with a round chambered all the time, I don't feel like they are unsafe... But there is just something that appeals to me with a hammer fired gun. I think it's just the ability to see how it works and what's going on...

I see conflicting stats on that actually. Sig says 29oz... American Rifleman did a review and they said 27oz... www.americanrifleman.org/content/nra-gun-of-the-week-sig-sauer-m11-a1-compact-pistol/

Both excellent pistols! I have owned a ton of Glocks over the years... Simple, and they always go bang. I currently have more of a Gucci Glock.. A Shadow Systems MR920 Combat. Google it, I think you will like it. 🙂

great review, highly recommend a Beretta 92 or M9 variant. The clones aren't bad, but nothing beats the real thing. Did you happen to find any thinner grips? The hogues are great, but they are equally as bulky.
