I picked up a Sig 516 short stroke piston upper about a month ago. It’s my first Short Stroke Piston gun. I had the barrel cut down to 10.3” and am loving it. Yeah it’s pretty heavy (8lbs) with a Eotech xps 3-0 on my sbr lower with Sopmod Stock but it feels like a tank. The MCX would be fun to try out too. Great review man.

Got a Virtus just recently (11.5" 5.56 in black with a chrome lined barrel for $2000, $2300 including tax and shipping/insurance, so it was really hard to pass up) mainly due to recognizing availability and gouging would be an issue for the foreseeable and...I don't care about the ambi bolt release or weight difference. Plus I prefer the look of the Virtus more and there's backwards compatibility with damn near every part. Snagged a 16" kit and MI rail with Arisaka's tension add-on to address the zero issue too. Thing's fantastic. It's my new baby.

We need to have sbr laws officially recognized as constitutionally illegal so the ATF can be held accountable for their crimes and we can have our freedom and money back. A really fast way to do that is for us to just put short barrels on rifle lowers and let the atf raid us and sue for human rights vioaltions and get them locked up

I just bought the 7.62x39 rifle version since I already have the MCX Virtus in 5.56. I'm pretty sure Sig uses some kind of thread lock on their muzzle devices because the Virtus one took my all to remove.

I definitely like them but after testing out over a dozen AFG's and letting friends and family try them too...I've discovered it's a preference thing much like stocks or grips. It's what fits your anatomy. I like the handbrake but it's not my favorite.

Probably the best video out there on the Spear LT. I'm on the hunt for one of these myself. Really want the 11.5" 5.56. I passed up a chance at grabbing the .300BO version...I just don't need any more .300BO rifles. Yup, I'll form 1 it. Just got one back in 23 days. Another is at 8 days. While I haven’t put a serious round count through it yet, so far it’s been incredibly accurate and 100% reliable straight out of the box. While all the new Sigs have the new internals, I probably still would have preferred the M18 for the manual safety just to be extra confident in carrying the thing appendix with one in the pipe

I too have the 11.5 pistol in 556 and I agree 100% with your assesment. While its an awesome weapon, there is room for improvement. #1Charging handle... Sucks. Wouldve much rather had a side charging handle. #2 The stock Sig Brace with the spinning plastic head...junk. I went with an A3 Tactical offset Tailhook Brace and its so solid and comfortable, Im not even gonna bother with the form 1 and ill keep it as a pistol. #3 that Muzzle device that takes devine intervention to remove. Cmon Sig...lighten up on the Rockset. I went with the Surefire Warcomp so i can run my SOCOM Mini. Other than those changes made to personalize it...Its a winner and holds a place of honor among my others in the safe. Cheers!

Yep... I had mine in boiling water for 45 minutes... It took 3 tries but I finally got it. 19mm socket on a cordless impact is the trick.

Great content on the Sig Spear Lt. but unfortunately I am a low income poor, I would have to sell an organ to afford anything Sig Sauer makes especially the Spear Lt. $2500plus is not exactly easy to come up with in my neck of the woods. Heck I am lucky I have internet, and I bootleg that off my neighbor. I guess I count myself unlucky, I get to watch everybody else enjoy the Spear Lt. and other firearms I just wish I could afford, but hey I pretend my dollar store toy gun is my dream guns all the time, or at least till I ran out of cheap foam darts. now it just collects dust like the rest of my hopes dreams.

I got one of these this past weekend at a LGS at MSRP, but opted for the 7.62x39 caliber as it was the only one they had. Did you know you can just swap the barrel and the bolthead on the BCG to change caliber platforms on the Spears? Also, I was having the same issues with that SBA3 tactical brace on my Canebreak.

I don't like weight on those piston systems. Both HK and SIG makes it to heavy IMO. I know DI AR's could be tricky to work with suppressors, but nowdays more and more manufactures are developing low back pressure cans and to be honest Iv read some crazy stories about HK or SIG being overgassed or not quite reliable. I really wanted to like LT for folding stock itself, but when I saw price and weight I was "LT wtf?" hahah.

the Sig flash hider/suppressor mount is held on with rocksett (its a ceramic adhesive) it needs to be soaked in hot water first or in water overnight! Sig will verify this

I have a virtus and have been trying to change my muzzle device for a while. None of my AR tools fit the mcx. How did you clamp it down to a vice to remove/replace the muzzle device?

I used an action rod. It didn't fit the barrel exactly so it kind of just sat in the upper but it kept the upper from twisting. It was better then nothing

Even a local gunsmith couldn't get the stock muzzle device of my Virtus barrel. They didn't have the mating device to fit the lugs at the chamber end and were worried they would damage it. I'm in NH so I took it to the Sig pro shop and they removed it for me.

@@davidb9323 I’m leaning towards the Maxim defense PDX because it has a superior brace, and it can shoot sub-sonic without a can, if need be, unlike the rattler. It’s only for home defense. So I’m not looking for anything longer than around 6’ at the moment.

@@fuddyduddie1205 Curious why you want to go .300 without a can. That is the main draw to the caliber. Most people compare it to 7.62x39 which would be more affordable and you could go with something like CMMG or the Spear LT in that caliber with availability of surplus ammo vs over $1 a round for .300. If you do get the Maxim the warranty is void if you ever remove the muzzle device, but it sounds like it wouldn’t be an issue for you. I have heard that Rattler does and doesn’t shoot super’s from KZbin but the jury is out if it’s true.
