That the one thing that has held me back from the sigma and just stick with manual. Linear focus just feels so right and good.

Aha! I knew that would be it! I started with an all-manual Nokton, and I never consider manual focus with AF lenses. The L Mount Panasonics do have a lot of control over this, though (i.e. Linear option and focus throw length choice), and it's possible that Sigma's full-frame 'Digital Neo' DN lenses in L mount will have improvements in this area since they're sharing and developing directly (Panasonic have included improvements with Sigmas in their firmware updates).

P.S. Sigma just live-streamed since I wrote that comment an hour ago(!), and one of the four points they made about the new lens was manual focus precision: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKCwfXSsj56KmNk Obviously that's for a macro with a long focal length, but it is indicative of their priorities with the DG DN lenses.
