I have the Nikon Z 24-70 f/2.8 and it is fabulous both in the center and edges when shot wide open or stopped down. If one is truly serious about landscapes then the premium price may well be worth it. Glad the Sigma is not available for the Z mount for the choice would have been difficult.

@@coltoncyr2283 I agree. My Nikon Z7 is stuck in warranty repair in New York for very poor battery life, less than 150 shots under minimal demand. I bought this lens on Sony E-Mount about 2 months ago based on a bunch of the reviews. I would say the part that this review and most others have missed is that it zooms the wrong way. Sony lenses zoom to the right to zoom in. This you have to turn left. This may not be an issue for people that switch cameras / lenses day in and out - but for a native shooter it really interrupts your shooting workflow. I think highlighting this in future would be advisable - after all - who cares about image quality when you miss the shot because it is less usable. I honestly wish I had gone for the Tamron (assuming it zooms the right way).

1:28 sensor dust.. are Sony really that bad in dust collecting?
@Linealo4 жыл бұрын
Most mirror less cameras have a easier time dust collecting than DSLRs. This is mainly just because they miss the extra 'shield' Infront of the sensor. Some manufacturers like canon with te Eos R try to battle this by closing the shutter when detaching the lens, but this also makes the adaption of old glass more tricky since the software does not support to shut this feature off. The general body design at Sony, which is relatively blocky compared to other cameras, also allows for more nooks and crannies inside the body - but since it's stuffed with technology anyway the only place to let dust can even settle inside is directly on and around the sensor. This issue might be even bigger with f.e. Canon since the body is more round and square parts have to fit in there, but that's a stupid argument. Sonys biggest disadvantage is really just that the sensor lies relatively close to the outside, this not leaving a lot of room for isolation and they have, in contrast to Olympus f.e., no rubber ring at the bottom of the lens mount socket in the camera to stop dust and water. So in the end it boils all down how isolated your lenses are and what measurements the manufacturer took. Sony is in a good spot and we'll handled it's not a bigger problem than with other mirrorless cameras, but companies like Canon or especially Olympus went other ways to combat it better - with other consequences like weight or adaptability.

The question is whether it is sharper than the GM ... and it is at 24mm, specially stopped down. At 70mm they are comparable unless wide open where the GM is better. Stopped down, the Sigma is sharper but I would NOT say way sharper: in my chart testing, it is noticeable sharper but not by a lot.

I feel like the Fuji 16-80mm is pretty comparable (one stop slower, but also half the weight).
@budthecyborg45754 жыл бұрын
And yes I know if you're comparing FF to APS-C that "one stop" aperture difference compounds with the sensor size to consume two stops of High ISO ability. Fuji's OIS would counteract some of that though, more or less depending on the IBIS capabilities of your individual camera. And don't count on using the 70mm-80mm range of the Fuji lens for anything critical. Still, saving half the weight (and a few hundred dollars) is nothing to scoff at. I guess the bottom line would be if you're really "pro" then Fuji needs to build an f2.0 16-55mm lens before they'll have a direct equal to this Sigma, but for the vast majority of people the existing Fuji 16-80mm might be worth a good hard look.
