What should I take sigma 16mm f1.4 or 35mm f1.2?
@wvad3r894 жыл бұрын
One is an APS-C Lens and the other is Full-Frame. The Sigma 16mm F1.4 is amazing for the price and it was what I mainly shot with on my Sony a6500. After a few years of figuring what focal lengths I enjoy most, I finally bought an a7riii and the Sigma 35mm F1.2 is my first prime. It's tough to say, if you like the 24mm Full-Frame Equivalent, use the 16mm and then move into something like the Sony GM 24mm F1.4.

I've heard another youtube channel talk about that using fullframe lenses on APS-C cameras is generally a bad idea and will often result in lower image quality than using lenses made for APS-C. The rational is that when cropping the image you magnify optical imperfections. It would depend on the lens I guess. This lens seems to work well with a cropped sensor it would seem, so I'm kind of confused on the topic. Do you have a general rule when it comes to using fullframe lenses on crop bodies?
@dasaauto20245 жыл бұрын
Eddie This is a phenomenon that’s definitely true more often than it is false. In many of Chris’s videos you see how this plays out-since he’s nice enough to test a lens on both a FF and APS-C camera. If I remember correctly Fromm the DXO Mark database, on an APS-C camera, only one or two full frame lenses were sharper than the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 zoom (and they were both Zeiss optics I believe... an Otus and their brilliant 135mm. It’s a surprising result, but yes, APS-C lenses generally perform better (sometimes way better) than FF lenses on a crop camera. Occasionally, a FF lens will be so good that it holds up really well on APS-C, as the 35mm f/1.2 Sigma here, but this isn’t common.

Nope - the maths doesn't work like that. If the crop factor were 1.4x then it would be one stop of difference (for example, see teleconvertors). But the crop factor of 1.5x or 1.6x means it's more like f/2 (not that that's a huge difference).

I had tested the Sigma 40mm 1.4 as I had it for a few months and now own the 35mm 1.2 (you can see some videos on my channel). The Sigma 40mm 1.4 is the sharpest most well corrected lens you will find at that focal range. The trade off is that Bokeh can be a bit on the nervous side. The 35mm 1.2 is still fantastically sharp though not at the same level of the 40mm BUT bokeh is surely smoother so for my environmental portrait work, it was my clear choice. I am trying to get a 40mm loaner from Sigma to do a side by side test after my upcoming 135mm GM vs 135mm art video. The 35/1.2 and the 14-24DN are Sigma's first FF lenses *optically designed* for MILC, taking advantage of the shorter flange to focal plane distance, amongst other things. Also, Sigma will have to reverse engineer the Z and R AF algorithms to offer this lens on those mounts. Unclear if that makes good business sense considering they have a new camera.

The A7R II AF system isn't the problem, it's probably just compatibility problems. There are many lenses that focus way faster on the R II. Sigma probably didn't test the lens out enough on an older body like the R II.

Bank manager says NO. Why is this focal length so tricky. Sony has a 2.8 for years then they come out with the 1.8, which has nasty vignetting. All of sigma lens suffer from af issues and eggy bokeh balls, and not to mention the size. Why can't someone just make a 35 mm that we can just love?

This 35mm 1.2 is stunning..if you dont like ti then you must be blind or just trolling

@@shaolin95 all I'm saying is why does one have to spend over $1000 for an easy focal length to make and for an all around glass, 1.2 is way to big. The bokeh balls on that 1.2 also are lentils. The Sony 1.8 has crap vignetting, why and for $750, c'mon.

Kinda getting frustrated by the f/stop and sharpness posturing by all the lens manufacturers. Not saying we need soft lenses, but unless you're blowing up 10 foot prints or shooting in total darkness, there's no need to be carrying around these bricks.

then DONT BUY IT. Buy a cheap small lens like frmo Tamron. Do you expect EVERY product to fit YOUR specific needs????
@TechnoBabble2 жыл бұрын
Huh? There's tons of companies that still make small, cheap lenses. Just because you don't want good optical quality doesn't mean nobody does.
