As an American, I really appreciate the Japanese commitment to quality, customer focus, employee satisfaction and the willingness to take risks.

Really enjoyed this interview, and you can clearly tell Yamaki-San has his heart in his business. His response to the question surrounding anamorphic lenses highlighted his enthusiasm. It's comforting to know this type of character still exists in a global company.

I admire Yamaki-san and his company for their posture and principles. For me, they are a great example of how a company should listen to their customers. One part that I liked in this interview was when he answered that their goal is not to become bigger but ensure high quality products. Congratulations Sigma for the 60 years!

Very enjoyable and insightful interview. Yamaki-San and his vision have been amazing for the photo industry. I would love to hear news on them adapting their products for the Nikon Z mount, both FF and APSC.

This CEO focus on quality was a great decision. I recently bought a Sigma 24-35mm f/2. I knew optically it was going to be off the charts, but what surprised me is how well built this lens is.

Thank you Johnnie for this very insightful interview! Looking forward to a quality offering to complement Fujifilm's line of lenses. Seeing how many people are using the 18-35mm f/3.5 DC HSM via an adapter on X-series cameras, it'd be nice to see a native version of this lens as a first offering. There is also a definite need for a quality, autofocusing ultrawide prime lens. Viltrox should be releasing the 13mm f/1.4 soon. Perhaps a 10mm or 12mm prime would be a great offering and a worthy competitor to today's most popular offering, the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm f/2.0, as well as this upcoming lens from Viltrox. Then an 85mm f/1.4 Art prime would be a nice to compete with the excellent Fujifilm XF90mm f/2.0 and the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8, priced between those too...

Thank you very much for the interview. Last decad was so, so good from sigma and us, authors, like many others, i haved sell all ( except 200mm f/1.8 L newFD ) my canon L lenses for buy Art lenses, and keep that forever. For a such small brand like SIGMA, it is a real achievement.

Congrats! Happy birthday to Sigma! In my opinion Sigma should receive some kind of medal for the 18-35 and 50-100 1.8 lenses. I would have liked to see if there is an interest for the RF mount for the year 2022 or later down the road. In any case, I thank you for the work you are doing and your search for perfection. Cheers!

Foveon 3 colour sensors are very similar to Delta 3D printers that use 3 arms to produce output at the print head, ie it's position on the print bed...? Software controlled with gcode .. Imo Laurie New Zealand

sigma, wheres the wide zooms for RF, 15-35 2.8 or f4? We need some new budget lenses and those that have vignetting, need a mark 2 made.

You know what would be supercool: a Fuji Hybrid Viewfinder on a Sigma camera (especially with Foveon, but Bayer is fine). Perhaps a tech-swap deal... Fujis get a whole lot more interesting with Sigma and Voigtlaender getting on board. Even from a purely build-based perspective - having I-series Sigmas which are akin to manual RF lenses would fully-realise the Fuji concept. And GFX... well with affordable lenses the system doesn't seem quite as out of reach (though, Foveon makes GFX unnecessary in many regards.) A similar effect to how L-mount has become accessible.

What Sigma could do is to develop three models of cameras: *One that is a hybrid of photo & video features + plus streaming capabilities *One that's video centric with pro video specs & features, and *One that's photocentric with all the bells & whistles of high-res censor, fast shooting speeds, etc
@fellowcitizen3 жыл бұрын
There's an excellent balance now with the twin I-series lines. If there were to be pancake lenses, they could be part of the PLAY line, rather than ART, SPORTS, Contemporary - thus clarifying the heavy emphasis upon character and convenience rather than perfection, yet without digressing from the principles of the other lines. Foveon should not shoot video at all if it compromises the photographic scope. It is already a frontier technology, and there are already cmos video technologies with decades and billions behind them. Anamorphics are interesting, but, it is a huge investment which diverts from other areas. Perhaps a collaboration with Sirui or other Chinese companies would also be a good initiative for the political sovereignty of Japan - akin to the competitive stimulation principle Yamaki-san referred to for independent companies. What was that Japanese term?

Perhaps Sigma will find nature already has found a solution for three colour sensors streaming into one output system? Try playing in a team with three colour plates, just one person sorting output? One person per colour to some sort of order...boxing them up .it's an interesting logistics thing, check their new logistics building people etc for the pattern that works....? Imo Laurie

Come on Yamaki-san! I don't care for video. Make the new foveon stills camera and i am investing asap! Hell, even blowing up the Quattro-h sensor to full frame levels, would be enough for almost 70 Mp quality! Just make it in a bigger body like the Quattro SD cameras and not the fp line...
