How is this lense compared to sony zeiss distagon 35mm f1.4. For picture quality? Sony zeiss is s bit more expensive.

My inclination is to the ART40mmF1.4, though the fact that this is designed for the L mount, and has the aperture (and is exotic) does draw me in.

@ChillWithMe_musics5 жыл бұрын
I will definitely stick to my Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens, that lens is really compact and optically amazing (has some vignetting which can be easily corrected, so it doesnt matter). I would definitely not carry gargantuan lenses like the 35 1.2 or the 40 1.4, when the 35mm 1.4 Art does it all. Optically it's absolutely great wide open, and the light gathering is very similar too. For me practical use is more important than pixel peeping at 300%. And still the 35mm 1.4 Art is astonishing at 300% as well... There is no practical use of the new Sigma Art lenses for portrait photographers. (like the 105, 40 or this one, all gigantic and heavy lenses)
@denyxrunner5 жыл бұрын
I must agree for 99% of people the 35 1.4 is fine but this 35 and the 40 especially are design to beat the 4000$ otus and just give you the best without compromise. They actually get to the otus level which is very impressive and are just on another whole league

@@Kprawl291986 Roger Cicala of LensRentals has had a number of very thorough tests, as have LensTip and others. But, you're right, ultimately it comes down to personal applications. @@Kprawl291986 P.S. this is off-topic, but what's your take on the Zeiss ZX1? When one is being so exacting with one's glass, it makes sense to wish to couple it to a sensor to draw the most from it.

@wex I have owned and loved many Sigma Art lenses on my Canons, their one Achilles heel for me has been focus, I am fine with the bulk of the lenses. via the MC-11 on my Sonys they seem to be pretty good, but wonderinf how you found focus on this lens (given the f1.2 it needs to be fast and accurate). Thanks in Advance, and love the videos.
@eoghanhennessy155 жыл бұрын
Brian Irwin it’s as good as the 1.4 is at 1.4, but at 1.2 it’s a little bit slower - I’ve rented this lens for the past week and used it on a portrait and automotive shoot so far, and ended up using MF more often than AF
@fellowcitizen5 жыл бұрын
The focus accuracy issues apply only to SLRs - which need to be tuned individually via the dock. Also, the focussing engines of the SLR lenses tends not to be optimised for video/smooth AF, but this is a mirrourless-designed lens so will not have that problem. I guess, the other consideration is just that they're very fast lenses, so AF is more challenging for the cameras and the photographers.
@eoghanhennessy155 жыл бұрын
@@fellowcitizen It's not an issue of focus accuracy, but acquisition of focus and the occasional false-positive from the camera. This is typical of 3rd party lenses though, nothing new...
@fellowcitizen5 жыл бұрын
@@eoghanhennessy15 Oh ok, thanks. I recall Sigma stating somewhere that people could send their SLRs in to calibrate the lens to it because there was a lot of variance between models from the same manufacturer. I've only used SLRs a handful of times a long time ago, so never had to deal with the separate phase-detect etc myself.
@eoghanhennessy155 жыл бұрын
@@fellowcitizen Yes that is true, and you can use the Sigma USB dock to perform that as well. My particular camera (a7ii) is not known for being very strong at focusing, but it does have both phase and contrast detect systems on the sensor. You may not see any issues with the a7iii for example on the new 35 1.2, but compared with sigmas own 35 1.4, it was similar in terms of focus performance on my camera - and reviews seem to mirror this.
