So a few weeks ago I installed and played Doom for the first time (Better late then never I guess). I went into it very cynical, thinking: It's over 25 years old, you can't look up and it still uses sprites for A.I; how could it still hold up today? But once I got over the limitations of the engine, I was delightfully surprised by how fun, fast and exhilarating it was. I absolutely loved it.
One of the tracks that really stuck out to me was the one you hear at the start of the fourth episode 'Thy Flesh Consumed'. Most of the soundtrack is very upbeat and arranged in a Thrash Metal style. But this track is slow, soft and sombre, and it's such a eerie contrast from the rest of the soundtrack. I had to make a cover of it.

A beautiful and somber intro with a hint of sorrow, a perfect vision of the beginning of the end, walking between two harsh realities of the mortal coil and into the depths of Hell. There's no turning back, no ticket home out of this madness and worst of all, you won't ever be going home... The bass drops as fury burns within your heart, slowly being tainted by Hell's influence on the base as you pump your trusty shotgun and dive into the abyss below. Surrounded, outmanned but definitely not outgunned, you unload with everything you have into the monsters and the barons that await you. Looking around, death is all around you and running out of ammo, you enter a portal with the floor below you starts to drain your life and before you know it, you are literally sent into Hell itself by the creatures that eviscerated you. Darkness, turns into a blinding red light, you remove your helmet. You're not dead, but now you are facing Hell itself through a window that was once part of the Deimos complex. You turn and find your pistol on your hip. You pull it, cock it back and eyeball the twisted corridor. No going back now...

This cover has it all - somber acoustic passages, moshable staccato riffing, soaring renditions of the main melody, a bass solo, beautiful transformations of the original chord harmony, time signature changes at just the right spots... I think that as an arrangement, this is a modern Doom cover that's both musically very diverse, and tastefully controlled at the same time. Great job!

This is probably the best cover of this song. I like the mystical sorta depressing sounding intro then it kicks into full on Doom Metal. Heavy and Oppressive like it should be. Most if not almost all cover completely miss the tone and atmosphere of the song. But you hit it perfectly and pass the original.

AWESOME COVER. My highlight of the entire Doom 4 OST was the tiny bit of Sign of Evil inserted into one of the tracks. They can give all the awards of the world to that soundtrack, but it's not worth a dime compared to the original imho and Sign of Evil especially was one of the best pieces. You did an excellent job on it!

just have to comment on this glorious cover. this track is my all time favorite from the doom franchise and like many others have said, a many have covered this song already, but they have lost the emotion of the original somehow. you have really kept that feeling of loneliness hopelessness and wailing dread that i just feel resonating through this cover. the riff is really just hitting the spot with the melody and i cant get enough of this song. great job
