Age 28 here. Initially started off viewing porn. Almost 14 years into compulsive porn habit. 5 years ago i started paying for sex. Wasted $25,000. Got nothing out of it. In therapy, working with young kids, been clean 5 months now and im already able to see so many blessings. I saved $8,000, connected with my family on a deeper level, just applied at Cal State East Bay for Masters program in clinical psychology. Remember one thing, when a man has no purpose in life, he'll distract himself with pleasure. I'm 30, still have my job that I love, family, hobbies. I just have to.stay consistent and remind myself of the consequences i faced all these years.

It does create heavy duty physical withdrawal when the addict in an affair no longer has access. But the degree to which one becomes addicted will depend on the particular level of attraction to the woman. I believe the addict is inclined to behave this way because early development was neglected. Sex addicts start very young , around highschool and it becomes habit because it a big rush they discover, which replaces other shortcomings, ie non existent social relationships, low self esteem etc..

But all in all it's an Intimacy disorder, and sex is used as a coping mechanism.

Wholeheartedly disagree. He seems to only believe men can be sex addicts and only speaks in terms of gender and marriage. I don't think he is qualified to help a queer or single person. He also talks over her every time she tries to say something, and accused of her being too liberal to have a normal perspective. He's probably a great therapist for straight couples giving marriage counseling, which likely appeals to most people watching this, we need to stop pretending that "straight men make up most of the world."

I had horse whips taking to my back and decked in the face if I looked at my father wrong and he had a volatile temper and strong as a bull, I remember him picking me up by my lower leg and with just one hand and his leather belt in his other hand and beating my ass and I couldn't sit down for at least a day or two without a pillow but I had enough when I turned 15 I was strong as hell with a temper as bad or probably worse because of the flashbacks of being beaten so badly. Please never tell yourself you deserved it because I use to think that until I was in my 20's and I thought for years about it and I didn't deserve a damn punch to the face while driving 70 miles an hour because I wouldn't call his new girlfriend mom. I should have jerked the wheel so it caused the brand new truck to turn sideways and roll it side over side. That could have taught his ass a lesson but if I had to deal with his death for life knowing that I'm the only person that knows that I purposely rolled the truck out of anger towards my father and I could have killed say an entire family in another vehicle, ong I would kill myself before having to deal with the fact I killed another family because my dad pissed me off. Not a chance in hell would you ever be the same for the rest of your life every single day thinking about say 4 people lives were taken because you couldn't keep your shit together. This is all hypothetically speaking I wanted to make that clear. I was decked WHILE driving 70 miles an hour by my father though.
