Only when the hyperfocus hits, then you only get to clean that closet until it's done, no breaks even to eat or pee until your body literally won't let you go on.

@@neniugravaEXACTLY!!! I'm of the sort that if I don't have the hyperfocus going, it won't happen at all! And breaks are the absolute death of that hyperfocus! Yeah I felt this one too :D I went for a walk once and started to feel worse and worse with every step, and kept trying to investigate what makes me feel so bad. Ate something wrong? I solved the problem of losing my keys by always keeping them in my pocket. When I go to bed, they stay in the pocket in the floordrobe. Change clothes I mostly have a habit of moving them to the new jeans/trousers/shorts. I haven't locked myself out since, but I have occasionally ended up with very clean keys, though thankfully the button on the car key appears to be waterproof.

My emails are fine (I delete them frequently). I do prefer texts but I listen to voicemails and answer most calls. I keep my keys in a ceramic dish on my dresser all the time, and I use an app to track my periods. The only one I hella relate to is the closet cleaning, but hey I feel super proud of myself when that’s finally done. Organization isn’t my problem; executive dysfunction is (& overwhelm). Pretty sure I’m AuDHD so maybe that’s why.

The latter still has over 500 unread emails cause that's where my EFD strikes the worst: initiating a task which I know will be mentally taxing or time consuming. Funnily enough, my EFD also mingles woth my anxiety and has prevented me from productively using my special interest hyperfocus.

I find that most of these things can be accommodated for. 😅 1. Scheduled phone calls, fun voicemail prompt, regular reminder for voicemail check, have people write to you in a way that REALLY warrants a response, preferably in a way that makes you feel useful or lets you express your opinion or preference 2. Have a things-jacket or purse where all of your important things are always in. The things that you don’t leave the house without, but also only really need when you leave the house. Things like keys, wallet, power bank, earbuds, gum, etc… 3. Set a timer for a manageable amount of time (two minutes is fine to begin with). After that reevaluate (I usually find that I can keep going). If you do keep going use pomodoro timers and HONOR THE BREAKS!!! 4. Repeatable Reminder 5. Delete all or most of the emails…find out what is best for you. Set up folders with different categories and start sorting regularly (The inbox was always meant to be a temporary place… I was as surprised as you are). Find out how to use filters (Still need to do this myself…) 😎

@@ashleyjones2034 when I don’t pick up the phone it is usually because it is unexpected… I don’t know what it is regarding or how long it is going to take. I might be in the middle of something and I find it hard not to switch focus from one thing to another when I’m not expecting it. This helps with that. I don’t think of it as forcing people to do something but rather as asking people to honor a boundary.😊

@@Varenyam86 The ADHD brain is actually more sensitive to external cues, which is why we are more prone to bad habits and addictions. The key is to surround yourself with cues that trigger good habits. If you aren’t drinking enough fluids it might be because you think of it as something you must remember to do… like a chore. Try to make it fun in some way. Instead of plain water try carbonated drinks or drinks of different temperatures or tastes. Drink at certain times with meals or activities😊

The amount of email addresses I actually have is literally crazy. Admittedly, I was a *very* bored teenager at 1 point and prob. a very bored young adult due to some friendship fallouts prior. So I can totally relate. For at least 4 or 5 different email address, no joke, I literally have over 1,000+ emails in each one. I even created 1 a super long time ago *specifically* for Junk Mail only, but I strongly believe this 1 is probably long-gone by now (haven't been on that one in literal years if not at least a decade from what it feels like). And then I had to change my main one because my original main one for friends and family only got cluttered w/junk mail somehow. I have very few organized email addresses. I have diff. email addresses for diff. purposes (e.g. 1 for friends & fam only, 1 for work, and 1 for shopping for example). But others that are probably somewhat random def have over thousands upon thousands of emails in it. I even have a specifically for insurance purposes too (this 1 I know how to stay a little bit more on top of) than my other ones. By organizing my emails like that def. helps me a ton. But even my current main 1 I believe has prob. about 500+ emails in them. And I think most just ignore it since they already know that the majority of it is just junk mail.

This channel is great but sometimes I feel it mocks ADHD, we're not all "damsels in distress" - If a call comes in at work I can't just not answer it. That doesn't mean I enjoy taking calls - Key goes in key bowl as soon as I enter; with travel card. Doesn't mean I'm organised elsewhere. - New email address can't happen, all the important stuff are tied to an email I've had for years. Doesn't mean it's not full of 1000s of junk mail This doesn't mean someone isn't struggling...

Well it is a spectrum, she's telling her story, and I find it a relief. I've been told I'm not ADHD by doctors, only to find these things to be my daily reality. I have some hacks, but systems can fail time to time. It's kinda nice to be validated. I'm sure I'd be different with medication. But that is never going to happen. So I can live knowing that I'm not alone at least while I'm drowning.

@@happytrails. Yeah the issue I have is it's titled "Signs you DON'T have ADHD" - I feel it's a bit invalidating saying that just because someone has developed hacks for certain things they're "fixed", especially when we've been told all our lives "you don't have ADHD you/you're just ______" or "you don't have ADHD because you can _____" and to hear that from a trusted support network can be devastating. Not sure if I've got too much of an AuDHD lens on this but I don't find this being helpful to people, although if it was helpful to you I'm glad :)

@declanwinchester5146 I 100% agree with this one all your life you've been told that you won't achieve anything and don't bother or people don't give you the chance to do it. And you've done everything you can to be treated normal when equal to somebody that can function properly. You still get kicked in the head because they may not handle your personality or your little quirks. Sometimes I wish I could just get rid of it for good my ADHD. Maybe I won't scare people. And maybe people start seeing me seriously instead of saying a try hard or you're not being your true self. No matter what you show your true self they still run away. When people find out you've got ADHD they don't want to be your friend or know you or even want to work with you. It's a really sad world

ADHD is literally a disorder which is diagnosed as a result of causing significant distress in multiple areas of your life. How is it mocking if the only way to be diagnosed is to be genuinely distressed at a higher rate than the general public in life? It is a disorder resultant to distress. You cannot be diagnosed without it.

It is the complicated tasks, like: I am sending a packet with stuff sold on etsy abroad. There are 4 documents needed, one in the packet, two in a plastic-pocket and one glued on the packet. Then there is all the infotmation needed, like weight, tariffnumber, adress, always forgetting the phone number and I have to sign two papers. And I have not yet wrapped the goods! I spent 5 hours today only finishing one, 1, packet. I packed it three times before everything was in order and nothing forgotten.

So the texting and voicemail I don't relate to personally. Unless I start a response don't like it and just decide to not send it, and close the phone and move on lol. The voicemail notif, plus the curiosity of who called and left a voicemail makes me check it if I miss a call. If I know you I'll answer, if not... :/

Keys go in the key pot. The key pot is actually the pocket pot. The pocket pot is actually a cereal bowl. The cereal bowl is actually one of three bowls placed strategically around the house. For putting pocket stuff in. After a period of training myself, using post-it notes saying 'put it in the pot' and, 'no, do it NOW, dxxxhead', ex-pocket stuff can easily be found in one of only three locations. Mainly.
