You go into an interview hoping for the best and praying you will land the position. Well, you do know there are signs to look out for to alert you that the interviewer may be plotting to bring you on board. What signs you may have noticed during an interview that showed you were doing really well?

The best sign is when they come up with an offer. Period. You could read out the best of signs and then still get ghosted. Or they might want you more than you want them (because they need a firefighter to replace somebody's closterfk). Just keep calm and continue to apply until you get an offer in your inbox.

Thank you so much for your advice! I had a job interview today, and I really think I nailed it! I was able to present an elevator pitch today on my interview, and each question they asked me I used a STAR method to really describe that challenge or experience. It was one of those feelings where you leave a business call, knowing that you nailed it and I felt that! The interview went on longer then expected, and they talked to me about the next steps along with describing the layout of the company! I am extremely blessed getting to interview with a company that is so well known and I am a senior college student graduating in spring. I am really hoping for the best!

I was recently looking for an IT contract here in The Netherlands. As part of interview preparation I watched a lot of interview advise videos like this nice video from this nice lady. I had one interview and it was as perfect as an interview could go. I answered all technical questions correctly, I had a nice rapport with the interviewers and the allocated time of the interview ran over by 10 minutes because the main interviewer kept on talking despite saying he had another meeting to go to. I still got rejected! Two weeks later I had another IT contract interview, really screwed up on a few questions, had no rapport with the interview panel because it was entirely by phone, but yet still got the contract!! These kinds of videos are good preparation for interviews, but I feel people should always expect the unexpected.

Thank you so much for your super insightful videos! I had an interview for my dream job last week, thought it went well when the hiring manager said they were “looking to hire people like you” when I asked what they were looking for but now I’m questioning if it went as well as I though it did since I haven’t heard back. I saw your other videos on what can cause a delay in response after the interview so I’m trying to be patient! She said she would get back last Friday but heard nothing so sent a checking in email Monday, a week after my interview. Thanks again for trying to ease our minds and for explaining the other side of things!

I just had an interview and I won't find out until mid-January (very long...) if I landed the job. I think it went well, the interviewers (panel of 3) were throughout writing notes and sometimes verbally agreeing with the things I said and making constant eye contact; they also laughed a little at some of my humour. Only until the last couple of technical questions I let myself down, but I believe I left a positive impression overall - there were so many things I wish I said in those technical questions. The interviewer at the end asked if I had any other interviews and I answered honestly with no, and he shook my hand twice at the end of the interview. I won't read into it much but I really want this job and my gut feeling is good.

The comments made by someone that was a part of your last interview are complimenting you on skills that you demonstrated, which are a good fit for the role. In the future, you can respond by saying “Thank you. I appreciate knowing that. We had good conversation and few laughs. .I think the interview really went well. ,I got positive feedbacks on my answer .They were like you said you have do certain things like expectations in 30 days 60 days 90 days and i asked for it and they gave an answer in so much detail that i feel like im part of the member. And at the end of the interview they asked me about 2 references. And after I had few questions still left unanswered but i had an hour interview. I said i still had some questions left. And the manager said send all the questions or concerns through email with the references lol and they were telling me training system and the program they use to chart. And they kept telling the learning opportunities that I have anwayways And i sent the thank you. :) i hope this is good sign.

just one small query, if an interviewer a) seems interested through out the interview process and even jokes a bit b) gives you hint on how to answer an odd difficult question c) tells you that you have done great research about our company and your role. d) Asks you after role play, would you have done anything differently during the role play? e) discusses perks ,training programme and asks your availability post interview and also if you have some questions f) tells you that we are interviewing more candidates and we will get back to you with in a week. The interview was scheduled for 90 mins but end in 70 mins or so What these signs suggest , has the candidate cleared the interview?

Great question! It sounds like a standard interview process with a very thorough Hiring Manager and one that appreciates the effort you put into preparing for the interview. Depending on how promptly or quickly you responded to the questions, could absolutely affect the duration of your interview time. At this point, send a follow up email to your HR point of contact expressing your interest in the position and ask where you stand in consideration of the hiring process. The only true guarantee that they job is yours is when you receive an offer. Thank you for watching our channel!

Hi Jenn! I went for an interview to the American Embassy Dhaka. That was final round. The schedule time was 12:15pm. I reached there early. When they heard about my presence, they called me for the interview right away. There was an interview panel of 4 ppl including HR manager. The concern department and deputy chief started asking me a lot of questions. I actually messed up some of the questions. But overall they seemed to have fun listening to me. They smiled all the time, arched eyebrows sometimes and nodded with my answers. Later they asked me if I have any questions for them. I asked couple of questions. One was an excellent question told by concern manager and started telling me that this role needs extansive training what to do and what not to do. And another question was countered by supervisor telling me "You better tell me how was your experience with your previous employer. Although after hearing my answer he clearned me his stance in a positive way. Finally, after completion of question and answer part HR came forward and told me about hiring procedure that it would take 2 to 3 weeks to finalize the decision and email us whether it is a yes or no. Do you have any opinion following to this selection procedure? Thank you!

Hello, Congratulations on your interview with American Embassy Dhaka. I would say your interview went well. It seemed you engaged with the interview panel and had them interested in learning more about how your skill sets could relate to the extensive training of this role. It typically takes 2-3 weeks to hear back on the process. I would send a follow up note of appreciation soon and additionally, follow up at the 2-3 week mark to show your continued interest. Thank you for watching the Career Success Channel and for your question!

Hi Jen, had a second interview yesterday. How should I feel when the hiring manager intends for the candidate to end the interview?? I'm wondering if she was even interested in hiring me even though she started naming people that I would be meeting in the next round. But, her questions (which weren't many) were almost the same as the recruiter's in my first interview. I am wondering if these people are just going through the motions and will hire someone within the company. I don't know. But anyway, how should I feel about that? Also, at the end of the interview, she did close by saying, "Thank you so much it was great talking with you. I look forward to talking again." Anything there that seems to be a positive sign?
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your second interview, and thanks for visiting the Career Channel again. Sometimes hiring managers want to ensure candidates have time to ask questions about the organization or the position, so they may extend an opportunity for you to close. The positive signs are that you are confirmed for the next round of interviews and she indicated she will speak again. Best of luck with additional meetings.

Also, they asked me, "What are your salary expectations?" I am at growing stage of my career so growth is my focus and then mentioned about how company is making efforts to improve sustainability. I said as per your company norms. They said do you have a range? I said I checked on the website and it was between 75-85K and they it is around 85-90K. . I said what was in my mind (the growth). Hi. I know that you said, "be weary if they seem to have hired you because you self identify". But, sometimes, I would think that that bodes WELL for those that self identify. It could be a case that they discriminate you, but it could also be something where they want to give you a shot because of your gender, race or sexual orientation. Hey, I'm fine with being hired just because of my color. Heck, white people are hired just because of theirs. I am an African American woman. I *ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS* post on the application that I'm black and female. My feeling about it is, if they want to be racist, go be a racist. Don't hire me. Fine. Let me know up front that you don't want to give me an opportunity. I won't get attached to that job especially if I know in the very beginning. If you want to hire a person that isn't as good a candidate as me because you didn't like the color of my skin, then that's what you get for hiring someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I'm not going to waste my time with a racist hiring manager, *not* checking the box on the application that asks for my gender or race. Waste the gas in my car and waste my time going all the way to the interview, just for them to see me and discriminate. No, you're gonna know who you'll be potentially working with before anything else.

Hi, I had a job interview today. Really hard to know of they liked me or not. They did talk about the salary, my availabilities, when to start, but i think these questions are now standard in interviews. The other 2 panels were so good having a neutral reactions. The HR manager the 3rd panel escorted me out of the building post interview and told me i did a good job. Not sure of shes just being nice. They asked me if i want part time or full time because 2 positions are on offer. I did say that my preference is part time. Did that turned them off because I am not flexible? Should I email them and tell them that I am open to negotiation in doing a full time job? Also I have emailed them my referees details, its been 5 hours now I have received a reply. Also they told me it might take weeks before an outcome, because they need to do checks etc...

I just interviewed with a job yesterday and I was wondering how I well I did. But today the recruiter called me back and asked me how did I like the interview with the managers and if I like the job. He said the managers liked me and is thinking of offering me the job. However, they're still going through interviews. I won't know until a week and a half if I get hired. Do you think I got the job?
@CareerSuccess

These a good signs! I like that. The recruiter typically will not call back with that type of information unless they are gauging your interest in the position. I also think it's great the recruiter is being so transparent! However, just because they are still doing interviews I would not put all my eggs in one basket.

I had my interview last week, on Saturday. I still waiting for their email. I was curious if my interview went well or not. But during the interview, the interviewer was nodded her head everytime I answer their question. She also had asked me if the company hire me, when I can start working? Is it one of the sign they want to hire me? And before I left the interview, she said to me that "I hope I can see you again". The last word make me feel curious if they want to hire me or not. 😅

Could you put together a video for those of us who interview predominately in the public employment arena. Public employment interviewers generally are not allowed to give any signs of preference because that could be understood as a bias
@CareerSuccess

Shell, thank you for leaving a comment. I certainly will add that to my list! Keep in mind that there are still subtle signals that interviewers offer that they may not even realize they are doing, like speaking as if you are in the role. Ex. "In this role, YOU would have to go through an orientation and then we would set YOU up with a laptop, etc." I hope that helps too. But yes, I will add this topic to my list.

I gave my desired salary. And the person conducting the preliminary interview, asked that if they come back with an offer for a few thousand (5-6k) less annually, would I take that be an issue? Favorable sign or no
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
I cannot say definitively if that is a good sign or not, only because recruiters are often asking that question standardly. They want to know if you would take less to fit in their budget. Rather than focusing on whether or not this is a favorable sign by them, I would additionally question whether taking a $5k - $6k pay cut is a favorable sign to you.

Hey Jennifer love your videos. I'm in the process of going through negotiations with a job offer. He low balled me the first time and I declined the job. But he reached out to me again and I made another compromise with him, so I really don't know what to think. And he was like when can I start? I suggested I wanted something in writing. Ugh, negotiations are such a pain. Did you think I handled things right?

@@CareerSuccess actually I ended up not accepting the job offer because he got angry with me. I did my research for the salary of a Junior Web Developer, which was minimum $25 an hour. He offered me $20 per hour, which again was too low with no opportunities to negotiate after a 90 days review. The job called for no guarantee after 90 days of getting full time employment and no benefits. Plus he blew up on the phone. Totally caught me off Guard and I refused to work with a boss that has a hot temper.

Thank you for watching the Channel. To address your question of what it means when employers ask leading questions, then say they will let you know, the possibilities are many. It could mean they have a few final stage candidates to consider. While your interview sounds as if it went well, having additional information may be helpful with their need to identify the best candidate(s), for the best investment (salary expectations) and start date. There are so many factors when identifying the best candidate for the job. Remain optimistic, and we suggest sending a follow-up email to thank them and show you have interest in joining the firm. Best wishes for your career growth ahead.

@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for visiting the Career Success Channel. Generally when asked to shadow it is a way for you to have a feel for what the actual role encounters day to day. If you answered affirmatively, and your interview went well, it allows them to move you forward based on interest. The shadowing is more related to your comfort level. Follow up and let them know you are interested. Ask what the next steps.

I thought I had an awesome new job and was so excited that I left my other job without giving them a full two weeks notice. The new job needed me right away so I had no choice so I finished out the week and told my boss about my situation. It was a hard decision because I have been dedicated and loyal to them for the past ten years; am I going to stay in this dead end job and pass up a great opportunity? So i left. Well, that was a bad decision because the new job went horribly wrong. Now, will future employers not consider hiring me because I left without giving a full two weeks notice? I'm worried..
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your story. It is rare that a new job will hear that you did not provide a two weeks notice. It is not mandatory to provide any notice, although it is common and best practice. Does that make sense? Did you provide a one week notice? In any matter, don't let that stop you from moving forward in your job search. The only way your departure will really affect you is if you are trying to go back to the previous company. Good luck to you!

I had an online lecture demonstration with one of the universities (2nd step). My demo was scheduled for 30 mins but it took almost 40 mins. After completing the whole demo at end subject expert didn't ask any technical question instead he asked about my in progress PhD and wished me best of luck for final thesis defence. From the HR person I asked about the expected reply and she told me to wait 1-2 week. So no serious question from expert. In online demo I can't see facial expressions. I am still confused if these are good or bad signs??

Hello and thanks for visiting the Career Success channel. Because you did not have the opportunity to gauge much feedback while delivering your online demo, I would not speculate on good versus bad.
