Waiting on a reply can be a huge headache but there are ways to go about reaching out to see where everything is standing. Besides the tips provided in the video, what other ways can you reach out to the recruiter if the traditional ways are not working?

The biggest concern is that I don't want to be a pest and nuisance. I keep thinking that if they were really into me, they would not need me to even contact them. If I continue to pester them I'm afraid they are going to take my interview and throw it right in the garbage.

F. Crazybone, it all depends on how you follow up and the frequency of the follow up. And yes, you a correct, a great best practice is for companies to keep you up to date on your status, especially if they wanted to hire you. The problem is that even the best companies still fall victim to urgent matters and priorities throwing them off track. Do not be discouraged. Keep me posted.

Unless following up influences the decision, I typically try to take my mind off it and go looking for the next. That way, whatever happens, happens
@CareerSuccess

I would do both. You can be an advocate for yourself and move forward at the same time. By following up about the current status of a position you have interviewed for, you're allowed to know if you're in the progress process. You stay connected to the hiring process. And by doing so, you can give yourself some leverage. For example, if you are in the final stages of interviewing with one organization while interviewing for another, you can use that transparency to create an urgency & demand for yourself.

Had a phone interview and received and email about an in-person interview. During the in-person interview the manager was very informative. I thought the conversation went well. I followed up with a thank you interview letter via email. The hiring manager responded back to my thank you note. This was 6 days ago. Should I call to see what's the next steps or wait?

Thank you for visiting the Career Success Channel. Since it has been about two weeks from the last time you had communication with the hiring manager, it is a good time to reach out to the recruiter or hiring manager (since the hiring manager responded earlier). It is perfectly appropriate for you to request an update on the status of the hiring decision. Best wishes for your career success.

Hi, I was first interviewed on 17th March and I forgot to ask the date I should expect to hear from them. After a week, I sent a follow-up email and received a mail to meet Senior Managers on April 6th. I was interviewed with CEO and Vice President Sales and also asked for the timeline. This time she said I will get the decision on April 9th; however, I am still awaiting it.FYI, they sent me the PIBA assessment post-interview and called my one reference the same day of the interview; however, my second reference got a call from HR but didn't pick. My second reference has called back twice but HR didn't pick up and he sent a good voice mail. My first reference gave positive feedback though. What should I do in this case?
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have had a very positive experience thus far! When considering hiring timelines there are several factors to consider, Hiring Managers are working on projects, day-to-day tasks or could even be out of the office on time off. The same goes for other decision makers like HR and the CEO or VP. Often times, it takes multiple decision makers to approve the hiring decision and salary before an offer can be extended. Additionally, companies are responsible for considering all qualified applicants. Due to candidate and manager interview availability this could also delay the process. In regard to the reference call from HR; consider there may be multiple positions and candidates that HR is supporting, causing delay in calling back a reference. I know your eager and excited to hear a decision. My advice would be to check back directly with your HR point of contact via email on Monday, April 19th. After making this contact the ball is in their court to follow up with you and I would wait to hear back.

I was referred in for a job. I never had to talk to a recruiter. I first had an informal meeting with the interviewer who would be my manager when I get hired. A week later I had an interview. During the interview, they told me it would be 2-3 weeks as they had just posted this job req I was interviewing for on that day. I was the first candidate interviewed. Today marks the second week. So sometime this week or by mid next week they would be getting back to me. Would it make sense for me to send a quick email in between to remind them I am still here and interested? I can also look up their phone numbers on the company's website for leaving a voice mail. I don't want them to forget me as I was the first one they interviewed! Hello, thank you for watching the Channel. I applaud your awareness of the increased use by employers when reviewing online presence of potential candidates. Because you did not clarify what exact "online reputation" you have, this response is based on the assumption that you may be referencing social media presence. We appreciate the suggestion of exploring how JTC might create awareness on the topic, if we see a fit into the Channel. In the meantime, the immediate thing you can do is review your social outlets and identify things that YOU can remove, and begin to build a more positive image. In addition, you might consider raising this topic with any recruiters when you are considered for a role. Let them know of your concerns, and be specific on how you are working to shift your online reputation. They will likely be able to guide you with the specific employer that has a job opening. If you are referencing online reputations linked to legal matters, contact a legal resource in your state. Initial legal consultations are usually offered at no cost. Remain optimistic and stay the course!

Hello! I had final interview last June 22 with the IT Head and I think I did pretty well. I sent them thank you email and got a response in less than an hour saying they are very keen to proceed to next step then asked for some documents. They said they will get back on me in 1-2 weeks. Last June 27, they sent me an email saying that she has prepared the offer and is pending approval and will get back on me 1-2 days max. They did not get back at me, so I sent a follow up email and said “we are still pending final approval from the bosses” without any timeline this time. Do you think this is just a bluff? I was looking for other jobs and was surprised to see the same post I applied on from them on a different site 2 days after my final interview. Is this a bad thing? Thanks!

Hello and thanks for visiting the Career Success Channel. I am a little unclear on your question, but I will take a chance to respond. It looks like you received a call from a company that you want to interview with or one that you have completed a first interview. If your question is whether you can call back to determine when the next interview is, that is certainly something that you should feel comfortable with. Reach out and ask when you can determine if you will be scheduled for a second interview. If you have not had an interview yet, you can still reach out to ask when a decision will be made to schedule interviews for the role you are interested in. Best of luck.

I had an interview 2 weeks ago by a recruiter. I then moved up another step the following week and had a meeting with the team. After that interview, the recruiter got back to me the following day to have another interview to talk to the hiring manager/account director. I asked in the interview what the next steps would be at the ned of the interview and the director stated he has other interviews for other positions throughout the week and I should expect to hear something in 1 to maybe 2 weeks. My interview was on Tuesday and I sent a thank you email to the account director. I am still waiting to hear from the recruiter (3 days later) Should I email the recruiter on Monday/Tuesday for a follow up? I am determined to get this role as it would be a major carer highlight. I interviewed for an internal position two weeks ago as of yesterday and I completely forgot to write a thank you email. I was told in the interview they were looking to make a decision in a week or two and I'm confident I'll eventually get the offer based on my qualifications and how the interview went. We were scheduled for a 30 minute interview and it lasted just about 90 minutes. Should I follow up with HR or the hiring the manager? Since I wasn't given a firm day they were looking to make a decision, but rather a general timeframe of a week or two, should I follow up today or on Tuesday since Monday is a holiday?

@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question/comment. The challenge right now is that some employers are still learning how to interview virtually. Regardless of what I think about these types of interviews, it doesn't change the fact that they are necessary to master in 2020 during a pandemic. To master a virtual interview, I would recommend these four tips: (1) make sure that you've practiced and feel comfortable with the technology. There's nothing like having technical issues to throw you off and distract you during your interview, (2) still dress the way you would for an in person interview, (3) make sure all distractions around you (including décor) are minimized so that the interviewer can only focus on you, and (4) pay attention to your non-verbal signals. If you want the interviewer to see you as engaged, then you will need to be intentional about showing it during the interview even if it means leaning in physically to the camera.

Covid has caused many delays and the loss of positions throughout many organizations. With that being said, I would take what they say as a direct statement of next steps. In other words, they are putting the position on hold and will check back in with you when it is no longer on hold. So, it doesn't mean you did not get the job at all. It means you did not get it YET. I do recommend following up in a month or two if you are still interested in the position. I hope this helps!

It likely means that they are finishing up the hiring process and interviewing the last few candidates. I would still follow up in a standard two weeks to check on your status. Next time some shares that they will follow up with you “soon” ask them then whether it would be alright to check back in in 2-3 weeks if you’ve not heard anything by that point. Try and get clearer deadlines. Good luck to you.

Hi Jennifer, I interviewed for a tech company two weeks ago and it went well. They even told me that they wanted to speak to me more and have me speak to the team. I waited a couple days and asked the recruiter what are next steps. They said they’ll talk to the team and let me know. It’s been a week and a half now and haven’t heard back. Should I follow up again or is that annoying? It’s a popular company and I’m sure it’s competitive. But I let the recruiter know in our first phone interview that I had another offer and need to expedite the process. Did they forget?
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. This is a common area of concern for actively interviewing candidates. I wouldn't say they forgot, I would say it's an indication they are going in a lot of directions and have other candidates to consider before making a decision. Typical interview consideration takes multi weeks. Hiring Managers and HR support, day-to-day tasks, additional projects and time away from the office. Just because you haven't heard back after a week and a half doesn't mean you are no longer being considered. I would go ahead and follow up (if it's been another week since you last heard from them). I would also let them know the specific deadline that you have to make the offer. If nothing happens from there, then as a Recruiter, my advice if you have a strong offer that appeals to you, you accept it. An offer in hand is better then not receiving one at all. You also don't want to leave this other company hanging for the possibility of another offer. That's not the best way to start a new position. If you decide to take this offer, send a follow up email to the other company withdrawing from the process.

Hi, in the interview (Friday 7th May) the hiring manager said I would hear back the following week. The recruiter then sent me an email on Weds 12th May stating that the panel were going to review the outcomes (there was also an assessment) and they had a difficult decision to make ahead - She stated that I should expect an update in two weeks. I'm now reaching the tail end of that two weeks finishing this week on Wednesday. I plan to follow up on Thursday if I hear nothing by Weds. I would love to get this job so much and worked really hard in the interview - I'm just super stressed waiting for the outcome. Do you think there is anything else I should do at this point? Great video btw :)

Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! I think your plan, "To follow up by Thursday" is a great idea. The process can be difficult and it sounds like the panel is working very thoroughly to make the best decision. Great question by the way.

@@CareerSuccess Thank you for replying! I found out that I was unsuccessful yesterday but was their 2nd preferred candidate. Their loss I guess. There will be other opportunities anyway. Thank you again :)

So I had my final Panel interview, I sent a thank you email as well and the recruiter replied thanking me and letting me know that they’re making final decisions on Friday and they’ll reach out to me ASAP is that a good sign?

Hi there! I am proud of you for following up. It is always a good sign when the recruiter is clear with their communication. Did you receive a decision?

I had a hospital interview this past Thursday and I sent a follow up email like 3 hours after my interview.... And I haven't heard back from my recruiter and it's been a week so should I send a second follow up email???

Did they give you a time frame of when they would be making a decision? I say to follow-up a week after that deadline. In this video I outline what to say. I also suggest watching these two videos as well on why you may not have heard back yet - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5_EhqmcedyEgZI - & how long it can take -kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKvHY4KJhdWnpM0 Let me know if you have other questions & keep me posted.

This video is very helpful thank you! Would it be okay if I were to ask if I’m hired when they ask me if i have any questions?
@CareerSuccess
@CareerSuccess 3 жыл бұрын
Though I like your courage, I would avoid asking that question. Rather, ask - "is there anything I've said (or did not say) that would leave you feeling less than 100% confident that I'm the right person for this role?" You want to move away from yes/no answers to more open feedback so that you are able to close the gaps on your end.

I got an interview, I went to the interview and the hiring manager told me he will contact me on Tuesday of last week. I got an email said I got hired on that same Tuesday that I was supposed to get a call and the email said wait for your hiring manager to contact you. It has been about 5 days after that, should I give them a call to see what my status is or when I can come in on my first day of training/orientation? Let me know!

I had an interview last week, after that they wanted to know how I would do with an assignment. I did it and emailed back to them to which they said they would check it out and get feedback as soon as possible, that was on Wednesday, should I do a follow-up or wait for them a bit longer?
