Todays micro-miniature size radios are amazing! I grew up in a home with a multi band radio that was about the size of a short refrigerator! No lie. There were buttons and dials galore. And the only person in our house who could really use it to full effect was my Grandfather! Boy, would he be amazed to see these new technological "Wonders" we enjoy today!

I just bought one, and I can say that it is less sensitive in fm and in short wave than my tecsun pl-310et and pl-330, in medium wave it is quite good and it is also good in the air band.

It is great on headphones, but falls short on the speaker due to Right channel cutoff when a stereo station or track is being played.

Watching this other video I realize that your grey R-108 actually has the orange lettering on the buttons too. It wasn't obvious in the "back in black" video. And the amber LCD backlight as well. So basically you're showing the same as the one I've just got 😄 But then you have three of them! Wow 😁 I've read articles saying that this radio actually is a clone of the Skywave, that the Chinese manufacturer basically has copied the US-designed radio to produce theirs. They sure look close, including the exact same aerial. But in this case the R-108 is a significantly improved variant, especially when it comes to audio output.

Nope, just cabinet color. Both have the amber back lighting.

I have the same radio, yesterday I listened to "Radio Nacional do Paraguay", at 920 kHz, and I'm in Brazil, 1200 km (745 miles) away. The farthest I could catch with this radio until now.

That would be nice. I'm particularly annoyed with one of the small stereo Sangeans which has a FULL EQ DSP CHIP, but no way for the user to change any of the settings. Man, what a waste.

If the battery is dead, does the radio work when you put it on charge or do you have to wait until the battery is charged?

the radio will work while charging, but it is better to wait for the battery to charge before using the radio. You will experience RFI from the charging circuit on some of the bands.

Привет!Я хотел спросить у тебя,из трёх приёмников 108-х не замечали под стеклом пылинки где экран когда покупали?Мне не везёт,первый xhdata-108 купил,с динамика сильное шепение при выключенном звуке было,сделал возврат.Пришёл второй 108-й ещё больше не повезло,под стеклом обнаружил пылинки.Продавца спросил,не возвратный ли случайно этот товар другим покупателем а потом по какой-то причине вскрывали,говорит что нет.А тут вспомнил вас,ещё больше разочарования.Так же как у вас с белой подсветкой который,обнаружил,что когда на диапазоне MW переключаю валкодером,то слышно через динамик как цифры шумят.

Great review as always. Maybe I missed it but how do you kill the alarm option? I won't use the alarm but can't figure out how to no-op that function.

Tap the alarm button till there are no symbols in the box under Timer.

I’m not sure how new a version this is but I have a black one with amber light, and gads! I’d never tried headphones- the pop is horribly annoying/ painful

@@radellaf yeah it was a deal breaker for me as a nighttime headphone user. Returned it.

@@emmanuelmota1 The Eton Elite Traveler was like that. Any change of bands would break your ears from the popping. Tuning through the shortwave band was useless due to muting. It`s a great AM receiver for its size with no soft muting of weak signals but I use the Eton Elite Executive now and will give the other one away. Drains batteries fast too. Could never get the clock alarm to work either.

Yes, unfortunately it emits a loud pop with earphones/headphones. The D-808 also has the same problem. I think it's a circuit design issue which the Sihuadon/XHDATA manufacturer has to address. Tecsun radios don't have this annoying audio popping noise.

@@StratmanII Yeah, I'm not sure why the brief mute that the speaker gets doesn't work on the headphones. It's the same amp chip, 'phones and speaker. CS8575S. If it's a CPU controlled mute, why would that be any different? No idea. I think it may be software fixable, though. Unless they power the amp on and off, which would be an odd way to do mute.

It is for the BEEP function. A small piezoelectric speaker.
