Yeah, people always seem to forget that PEDs are on a gradient. You can be enhanced without being an IFBB Pro. This is also why so many non-lifters assume that steroids are rare. One time I showed a friend of mine a picture of Ronnie Coleman, and she said "Oh my goodness, is he on steroids or something?"
@johnkyle2205

@@chadglazier3102 Speaking of Ronnie Coleman and how PEDs are on a gradient, he always talks about how he first jumped on PEDs in his 30's. Someone I know (who uses steroids) thinks he isn't lying, because he suddenly got even bigger in his 30's. But it's hard to believe he didn't touch any PEDs until then, cause he was freakishly monstrous in his 20's, then he got even more freakishly monstrous-er. Taking different PEDs in higher quantities could explain this. But the guy I know won't accept that explanation.

The thing that makes me laugh about people saying drugs aren’t in crossfit is just simply this, LOOK AT THE WOMEN! Most of the women are built like brick shit houses and have more muscle on them than most women you see competing in purely resistance based sports or sports where the equivalent males are huge like rugby. I get it you love the sport and want it to be clean but sometimes you just have to look at things objectively.

I think youre right that a good percentage of them are at least taking something, but I'm not sure this is the best argument for that. I think their size is quite deceiving, most of them are around the 60-65kg (140lbs) mark, which isnt crazy big by any stretch. I think their low body fat a nd defined abs make them look bigger than they actually are. Put a rugby jersey on them and I bet they would look far less impressive. You also need to take into account selection bias - ie the body type the sport selects for. What makes a rugby player good? and what do they actually have to do in their sport? Some positions need to be big and strong, but they don't need to be as lean ( and so they don't look as impressive) other positions are selected based on their speed, skill and tactically awareness (and a little size). Cross fitters are selected for their ability to move weight (large strong muscles), move their own body weight (need to be lean) + their cardio fitness + they are moving high volumes close to failure which is a perfect recipe for growing muscle (almost all other weight lifting sports either use lower volumes or intentionally try to operate away from failure, they also sue far less total upper body muscle which significantly impacts the look of being 'bulky") Also remember that these are the elite of the elite. There will be genetic outliers out there who can achieve things that don't seem possible naturally, but there will also be others who need to take stuff if they want to keep up.

Am I really expected to believe that the natural laws of muscle recovery don't apply to him? I don't care how good your "genetics" are. If you're not giving your muscles some type of chance at recovery either with PEDs or days off, you aren't going to get stronger. I don't understand how people can not only see but vehemently deny use of PEDs in crossfit or other professional sports.

Recently, in the world of powerlifting, the IPF and the USAPL split up. The primary issue for the IPF kicking the USAPL out of their organization was that the USAPL was doing non-WADA approved tests. The USAPL state that they were simply doing cheaper tests at the local level and then doing WADA testing at the national/international level. I'd be very interested in hearing a review of the USAPL and the IPF's testing protocols and what you think is more efficacious in catching cheaters. This assuming that the goal of testing is to actually catch cheaters.

Not to say that the IPF is clean, but for me it looks like the goal of testing in the USAPL is not to actually catch cheaters but to test for the sake of "testing", hence this inflated overall amount of subpar testing being done.

I don’t think at the moment CrossFit can just let athletes use PEDs, even though I agree with that. CrossFit still try’s to brand itself as a health method/lifestyle. It’s disheartening but it’s not like we can’t fix it. Make the sanctions so severe that it’s not worth the risk. If an athlete tests positive, they are out of the sport for good, erase their names in such a complete way that it would be hard to confirm that they ever competed at all. Extend the sanctions to the athletes coach, and actually stick to it. Brutal, yes… but the consequences have to be elevated far beyond the reward of risking it. Of course there will always be excuses, but if the athlete isn’t able to defend their position or prove the excuse, it is what it is. And yes I compete, I get tested and I understand the gravity of the situation.

You mean all those jacked to hell women in Crossfit are using? Shocking (not shocking). Any who, I already found Crossfitters the most annoying people in the gym already. How can you tell who a Crossfitter is in the gym? They are the one telling you how you're doing everything wrong, while they use 3 times the equipment and floor space to train as everyone else. Luckily you rarely see them consistently, because they are constantly recovering from training injuries from over training.

I appreciate your candid discussion with regard to this subject. If you’re smart you know pretty much most people would be using. As a lifelong natural athlete I know what it’s like to hit genetic potential for muscle gain without destroying my digestive system or body with over eating and lifting too heavy. That being said there are genetic outliers but after years in the bodybuilding world I can definitely say many people will do what they can to get to the top of their field. As you said it’s also illegal to possess and take most PEDs in the US so you won’t see people often admitting to this especially when it will destroy their careers. Thanks for the great content! Keep it up!

CF has two options. Either not test and leave the speculation out there or use WADA and/or USADA instead of their own “private” org so we can all see every athletes test results. Then ban those that test POS forever. Until CF does something about all this, it will never reach the top tier level of other pro sports. It’s the fitness “WWE” as of now.
@alemail
@alemail 2 жыл бұрын
WADA cannot test crossfit because crossfit technically is not an sport, it's a brand. You can play football and called it football but you cannot do it with crossfit (and also technically almost any activity can be called crossfit by their own definition)
@itstoodamneasy3976

@@alemail actually, it does not have to a recognized sport. WADA has agreements with USA and the USADA that allow testing under the country’s National Anti-Doping Organization to find illegal drug use.It’s a matter of actually doing it that CF won’t bc then top tier/poster names would likely be exposed.

Crossfit is in no way unique, any sport where PEDs have a significant effect and there is money or even only prestige involved is saturated, it's the difference between having a contract or not, its the difference between making money or not between success and failure. The testing procedure is a joke. Rugby for instance it is the norm, not the exception.
