I'm glad you posted these debates. After reading about the grooming, I myself as a Muslim was disgusted. I was one of the ones who tried to start a petition to get these men punished directly by the Sikh community. These men disrespected women in a manner that NO WOMEN should ever experience no matter the faith. I apologize for the women who had to experience such things, it has nothing to do with Islam, in fact Islamic law would have put these men to death.

Don't assume what I'm confused about, instead ask me what I mean. I think some of those issues you mentioned are purely related to the culture & traditions of the Punjab region, rather than being anything to do with Sikhi, which actually teaches against them. The problem is that most Punjabi's are also Sikhs, & many of these people do not know enough about Sikhi to know these things are actually against their religion. Some Punjabi Sikhs are incapable of differentiating between their culture & their religion, particularly when these 2 things are at odds with one another. Probably the only way to overcome it is some very hard preaching by their parcharaks on some of these un-Sikh like practices indulged in by Punjabi's.

You can't assume that he is not just as passionate about that issue as well. There is a time and a place to raise such issues, no community is perfect because no human is perfect - preferably should be raised in front of the Sangat in a Gudwara as this is where Sikhs congregate by the Hukam of our Guru's. Raising internal community issues at an interfaith debate is kind of a waste of time in my opinion, why air our dirty laundry in front of those who need to hear about their own community issues at that particular time? Seems counterproductive to me... we work on our own community and they work on theirs. Singh was just raising an issue directly to the community it relates to.

In Islam Muhammad removed the custom of female infanticide,allowed women to have their own property in their name, women are allowed to learn quran and do namaz in mosque , women can be circumcised,women can have a say or can be consulted. In Judaism women can be prophets, women could make pilgrimage to temple, both women and men were present at mount Sinai to witness god speaking to moses, righteous women are rewarded more than righteous men, a man needs a wife and should love his wife as himself, women can be scholors etc

This is a huge problem in the Pakistani community and has been for many years and just because the media has bought it to attention the wider public, now, the muslim leaders sit together to condemn this. But the people don't want talks, they should use their influence, quote from the Quran, use their position in the community to hit out at these nasty individuals that are putting a stain on the rest of Islam. But they don't do that, what they do is send out fatwas on people outside the religion. For example when some one drew a disrespectful drawing of Mohammad, you guys were burning effigies and crying out for the artist blood. Do you really think Allah or Mohammad could care less for a stupid drawing OR would they have a problem about muslim men grooming innocent young children????

"we are living in a 21st century and we have to leave these thoughts behind..to able to build a safe happy and healthy community" - Unfortunately, sex before marriage very often leads to sexual transmitted disease as well as unexpected pregnancy. Not very safe, happy or healthy. Yes, teaching safe sex is SO IMPORTANT because YES many people will have sex before marriage, but if we can remain abstinent before committing to a life partner, most likely, our society would have less disease. Even more so if partners were completely faithful, which most Religions asks of it's followers.
@janburn0078 жыл бұрын
Just because the educational & school system now teaches children about sexual intercourse & safe sex, does not mean that children have to indulge in these things before they get married. Most religions still teach that the ideal environment for any sexual relationship is still within marriage. To know that this is true, you only have to look at all the problems which have been caused by the present permissive society & promiscuity - such as STD's, AIDS, & children born outside of marriage who are often raised in a single parent families. It's really not that difficult to abstain from sex before marriage - especially if one would normally search for a future spouse from amongst people who hold similar beliefs. All it takes is for a person to be strong & exercise a bit of self-control. Only a weak person would do otherwise. I would say we would have a much happier & healthier community if people had more self-control, instead of just letting themselves go wild.

***** "Why are people even asking this question when women don't seem to have an issue?" According to whom? I'm a woman and I certainly have an issue with an all-male panel discussing "women's" issues with no actual input from WOMEN. Crysus Bu siad: "Clearly women don't care since if they did you would not be asking the question and women would be on centre stage." The first part of your statement makes absolutely no sense. You think questioning why there are no women on this panel, proves that women don't care about these things? How asinine. As for women being on this stage, whomever sponsored this event had control over who was going to be speaking. So why didn't these individuals make sure that 1 or 2 religious women were onstage speaking about women's issues? Crysus Bu said: "I believe the whole nonsense of "female rights and empowerment" is a farce constructed to destroy family and dignity." How does female rights and empowerment destroy "the family"? What does it mean for a family to be destroyed? You're throwing around all of these demagogic buzz words, but I doubt you actually have a fundamental concept of any of them. Crysus Bu said: "To immaculate society and make them shallow and vein." To 'immaculate' something means to free it from flaws and mistakes. You think to free society of its flaws and mistakes is a bad thing that will lead to shallowness and vanity? And... you expect me to take your opinion seriously when it's this irrational? Crysus bu said: "The illusion of freedom where women strive only to chase after what men "have"" What is it that men have that you're referring to?

The prophet of Islam said: “Whoever hurts a non Muslim, I shall be his complainant and for whoever I am a complainant, I shall ask for his right on the day of Resurrection.” (Hadith) He also said: “ Whoever persecutes a non Muslim or demands work from him beyond his capacity or takes something from him with evil intentions, I shall be a complainant against him on the day of Resurrection.”(Hadith) In Islam the meaning of worship is applying not only to the religious practices such as praying and fasting but everything Muslims do in accordance of the Islamic principles, to satisfy their proper needs and those of their society, is considered worship. Islam determines the various acts of kindness and arranges the responsibilities and rights of different relationships. In social relationships, the responsibility of the Muslim lies firstly to the family then relatives, neighbours, friends and all other human beings.

Guru Word no brother hadiths are Ok! Al-Bukhaari narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Jibreel kept urging me to treat neighbours kindly until I thought that he would make them heirs.” And it was narrated from Abu Shurayh that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “By Allah, he does not believe; by Allah, he does not believe; by Allah, he does not believe.” It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who is that? He said: “The one whose neighbour is not safe from his annoyance.” This is general in meaning and applies to all neighbours, and the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) affirmed that the neighbour should not be annoyed by swearing three times and stating that the one who annoys his neighbour is not a believer in the complete sense. So the believer should avoid annoying his neighbour and refrain from doing what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden; he should strive to do that which pleases Him and encourage others to do likewise.

@manni28kaur10 жыл бұрын
Tajbir Tony Singh First of all, your statement is based on your experience, and could therefore not be considered as a fact. You were trying to answer her question about why there are no women on the panel. Unfortunately, you failed by telling her that are no women with enough knowledge and that want to speak in public. (You don't know that for sure or do you? Have you personally arranged those people for the panel? Did you ask women if they wanted to be on the panel?) Furthermore, your statement offended me as being a female. You are talking as if women are retarded and uneducated. "Find some women that have enough knowledge"- Maybe you should go to a Gurdwara/Mosque/Church/Temple, I am sure you will find at least one. I don't care what kind of work you do, your statement was inappropriate and offending. So, no I will not delete my comment :) If your intention was not to disrespect someone, you should have written your comment in a different manner or elaborated it.
@manni28kaur10 жыл бұрын
Tajbir Tony Singh English is not my native language either, but there is a difference between making grammatically errors and making sure the content of your message is received correctly. No, you don't need scientific facts for commenting, but it would be helpful to write "based on my experience" or "I think" whenever you are talking about your own experience or your thoughts. Again, you said that you couldn't find any woman to take the centre stage. Does that automatically mean they do not have the knowledge? Isn't that an assumption you are making? If someone makes a comment that is concerned to me I will respond to that. I'm sorry if I am annoying you, but this isn't about who is right or who is wrong. According to me, your comment was written in an insulting way. I misinterpreted your comment, but did you try to explain that it was not meant as an insult? You could have just told me in a peaceful way that your comment was not a mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's feelings and that there has been a misunderstanding. I took you for a misogynist and I sincerely apologise for that. However, there were things that should not have been said, but let bygones be bygones. Have a nice day.

Waheguru. Whether you believe or disbelieve, on both sides you will just have a fancyful story. For the Gurus, Gursikhs, Saints, and Realized beings they have a living experience of the Oneness for themselves. Clearly one can see that this body is just an accumulation of food and that the mind is an accumulation of impressions. What we truly are, What is truly immortal in us, is the Oneness(or God that is more commonly used but doesn't completely capture the description of the Oneness), the Oneness that is all pervading, all doing, all achieving, all experiencing. Sikhi is about connecting with that Oneness, which is immortal, and transcending your limited nature which is subject to time.

Why non-muslims are so bothered about a female Imam ? Why would they want ladies to do imamat ? Are they willing to make their daughter or sister or mother or wives imam of some masjid ? Every gender has their duty to perform and that are specific to them only. I ponder how these people do acknowledge or accepts the biological differences between men and women but are not agree to accept the responsibilities in some cases do differ. Thanks to almighty, the questioner did not ask why men can not breastfeed or get pregnant ? Lol... The almighty made men physically stronger to protect women, earn bread for them and their children who are less stronger than the men. While womens are regarded as the first school of every child where she is reponsible for transmitting values and morals and ethics and ettiquets. Which gives an ideal and humble personality to the society where people live in peace and harmony. And this is a very noble and crucial task which a women can play very well while the husband is out to earn a lawful food lawfully for his family. Imagine mother and father both are out to earn and their children are handed over to the baby sitters and are deprived of their mother's love and caring. How come such people expect their children to love and care them when they get old. You throw your children to baby sitters and they throw you in old age homes when you go old and weaker. You deprived them from your love when they need it and they deprive you from their love when you need that. I mean that's so simple... "As you sow, so shall you reap". Women problem is not only Islamic issue it was always even before wemen was considered second class in Europe, India, China even today this cultural problem . In India and China Arab before islam when they know it is a baby girl just buried live. Europe women was considered unclean and used as slaves and sex toys . Kings had 1000,2000 Women. Prophet Mohamed came and limited to 4 wife's not sex toys. Out of compassion respect to support the weak women and children a provider.

Good question, actually if you look at hadith you'll find that women didn't cover their faces. Even when we have to go for Haj it's completely our choice to cover our face or not and the conduct and clothing of Haj was given by the Allah through our prophet. Therefore covering face is NOT COMPULSORY. But still some women do it as they WANT TO otherwise it's NOT COMPULSORY.

How can she be any less than a man when from her kings are born It’s a quote from within Sikhi Idk from where tho Also Sikhi is the only religion where women have 100% equal rights, One of the commandments is also to see every woman other than your wife as your mother or sister And you can not have multiple wives so the marriage it equal Another commandment is that you are not even to speak to someone who killed their daughter And like Bhai Jagraj Singh said It’s men that have to control their lust, not women who have to cover up Every society including non religious ones had oppression against women except in Sikhi From feet binding Genital mutilation I’ll give props to Christianity for being more favorable to women Besides that women can’t preach This is did lead to men having to work harder and better and become better to impress women etc, find wives and slowly did make Europe more successful in history Sikhi is relatively new and hasn’t had a country in 175 years so the impacts are forgotten and right now aren’t shown

Jugrag's brother wrote an article about sexual grooming in the Sikh community. 95% of grooming in the Sikh community is from within Sikhs themselves but it's considered a shame to bring these things into the light - so most cases are not talked about. evil exists people that come from all faiths.

Why should the need for physical contact with another consenting human being who you are not married to be considered a sin? Thats bullshyt, the sikh guy basically equated it with greed, and not having compassion wtf still very unhealthy. The less sexually oppressive a society the better the men from my experience.
@SehajSingh9410 жыл бұрын
Because in Sikhi and the culture within which it originated we consider sex an act which is only the right of your spouse. It's more than just making your genitals feel good, it resembles complete submission to your partner. We strongly believe in "gristi jeevan" which is the householder's lifestyle, i.e. marriage, children, etc. Sex with your spouse is a true sexual act - others are, for us, a false and illusive experience and as we aim to live a life of truthful living every day it is completely illogical for us to have sex just for the sake of it. Pre-marital sex lessons the worth of the act of sexual intercourse in the sense that it is not something you have kept exclusive for your spouse. It is greed because we become greedy to satisfy lust and there is a chance that, until bound by the commitment of marriage, you will end up having sex with multiple partners which we do not practice due to the reasoning above. Lust is one of the five vices which stops a human from keeping in a divine state of mind - the others are anger, greed, emotional attachment and ego. I understand that different societies do things differently but I seriously don't think it's your place to decide whether or not this mindset is 'bullshyt'. Also it's not unhealthy; there's a lot of rubbish about holding up testosterone being unhealthy. A spiritually orientated person knows how to circulate this creative/fertile energy to keep themselves healthy spiritually as well as physically. Some of the greatest warriors in history were celibate, hence it's obviously not unhealthy. Look at Kundalini Yoga, I seriously doubt you could call those people unhealthy. If you don't know how to do that then yeah, you're going to struggle. For Sikhs it makes perfect sense and although a challenge it's one we will readily accept with the guidance and support of our Guru. Maybe you should research into the Sikh society a bit more then? Particularly the history of the warfare around the times of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobindh Singh Ji. The Khalsa Panth (the Sikhs) were the very epitome of truth and justice, freeing the land of Punjab from the oppressive Mughal forces, which naturally also meant freeing a lot of sexually abused women from the horrors they were experiencing. They did all this while living in line with the Rehat or Code of Conduct set by the Guru (which includes no pre-marital sex) and are fine examples of how to live even today. Peace

Again, there is nothing wrong with getting married etc but there is also nothing wrong or unhealthy or lack of total submission if you choose to have sex with another consenting adult.
@SehajSingh9410 жыл бұрын
Mel Jama You say that statement as though it's a fact, but actually it's a subjective opinion. Having grown up in the UK I understand why people have sex before marriage and I'm not questioning their morality, but for us it still is a lack of total submission. Of course it is; staying faithful to the man/woman you will marry even before you've met them is like a level up on just staying faithful once you get married. If other people don't feel the need for such submission then that's cool, they can go and have sex and good on them! They can enjoy themselves and they've not hurt anyone's feelings, nothing wrong with that. But that's not how we do it and we don't have any reason to doubt the teachings of our Gurus because the lives they lead were absolutely remarkable and an inspiration to us all. So why would we, as Sikhs, need to question this level of commitment? I'm proud that I've not lost my virginity and my wife will be too, and when we meet each other we will be thankful and it will give a strength to a certain dimension in our relationship which cannot be taken away. Like I said, if you don't want to do it then cool. But we do and you can't really argue with what someone else wants if it's not affecting any other parties; it's their lifestyle choice. If we then don't follow this path of total submission and lose our virginity before marriage, it does show that we are 'unhealthy' because we haven't been able to control the five vices that we seek to avert at all times. We haven't learned to control our minds. And if we can't make the effort to control our minds then we may as well give up on trying to reach Vaheguru (God) right now. And some people may mess this up. It doesn't mean they can't reach God, that they're eternally condemned or whatever, but they have to change their mindset and concentrate their efforts and energy towards reaching enlightenment rather than worldly/sensory pleasures. I don't think Jagraj ever mentioned the word 'sin' anyway. So in short, for you (and a lot of other people) it might not feel like it's unhealthy or demonstrating a lack of total submission, but for us it does. Hope that helps.

Imagine there is a religion where not eating mangos till you are married is considered a virtue. Imagine this person tells you that its added a dimension of commitment to their future spouse and religious practice. Then you called it a vice smdh Thats when you lost me. Sexual attraction and activity is healthy when done safely and with consenting adults. There is nothing unhealthy or vice etc about it If your religion requires you abstain fine, but calling premarital sex unhealthy, vice etc is what I take issue with. You have some good ideas when compared to other religions but in the end you are still dysfunctional as other religions when it comes to human sexuality
@meljama832110 жыл бұрын
Notice how its always the sisters and daughters they worry about? It only should be about commitment if both parties agree to it. Not bc you think somehow some purity is lost. How is that self centered? If anything the self centeredness comes from your end wanting to control how and with whom ppl decide to share their bodies with. Thanks for proving my earlier statements. The more sexually repressed a culture is the worse the men are.

Both Hinduism and Islam have inequality For Islam it’s between men and women, for Hinduism it’s both between men and women as well as caste/race Sikhi doesn’t There’s many rituals and superstitions in both Hinduism and Islam There are so many things banned or not allowed in Sikhi that are in those other two religions Every religion gate keeps heaven to only their religion Except Sikhi In many aspects Hinduism and Islam are more similar to each other than they are to Sikhi

They worked so hard taking 50% hinduism and 50% Islam and hence making their so called religion. Plagiarism right here. Sikhs say Mohammad pbuh was a corrupt messenger may Allah forgive yet their gurus were good ones. Only if Muslims were behaving just as the way Mohammad pbuh used to…this sikh man wouldnt have looked so polite and impressive. May Allah guide us all and punish those who disbelieve in Him and His Prophet pbuh on the day of judgement. Ameen

You just prove how uneducated you are about Sikhism. Your ignorance is hilarious and you deserve to be born into the death cult. Ofcourse our Gurus message is eternal and not just for yesterday .... look at Mohammads life he chose a 6 year old for his wife bloody disgusting! He used to stick his tongue down children's mouths, and have people suck his fingers. Got revelation wearing his wife's clothes hahahahahah do one.
