Can you please tell us the stapler brand and model # that you use? Also, I think you said the staples were 3/8" high, what is the width of the staples as well?

like you said it is like installing plywood but i tame the beast by hot water mist the backing, use 3 row pin tackless called J pin (short pins ) also i have cut out of 6 inch vinyl wood 1 1/2 to 7 1/2 blocks to keep it measured & straight, and place a block about 3 steps up & pin it to keep it from twisting as i am working bottom up . @@KeithShannonDirectCarpet Hi mate, thanks for getting back to me. I found a video you did that explains what I needed. You set-up the layout with tape and a roll of paper. Then you used the paper as a template for overloking. Thats exactly what I needed to know. Im quoting this job atm and feel I have a much clearer direction now. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work, I have subscribed. Cheers Paul.

I actually created a template for the pie stairs were you don’t need to take an inch and 3 quarters off per stair. I do Stanton and tuftex all the time. It curls with the stair hit me back would love to share and talk with a fellow installer based out of the east end Toronto

Out in BC the carpet binder has me create templates,, ( I use Ram Board type floor covering paper) to make templates for the winders. These pieces of carpet have the riser as well as the tread. This way there is no concern at the nosing of the carpet coming loose because of a joint under the nosing. The riser is cut straight by the binder and the tread is left long for trimming by the installer. Great video, thanks for posting !

I am a DIYer planning to try this. On the wedge shaped 40" tread, measured about 6 - 7" from each side, the right side of the runner would span about 9", and the left edge would need to span 12". So the difference is about 3". It is not very clear on the video, but are you making a 1 1/2" angle cut at both sides of the piece of runner to come up with a total difference of 3"?

Hi great job! Just wanted to know what type of underlay runner you're using ? My goal is too make the walking up and down as quiet as possible since it would be for flat stairs (bedrooms on each side). I'm in France, not sure what I should go for : the kind of material you use (recycled polyurethane?), felt type, cork/rubber mix or yoga mat type foam? and in what thickness for max quietening results and most durable in time ? (The runner will be a thick carpet) Thanks a million!
@KeithShannonDirectCarpet
@KeithShannonDirectCarpet 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Amaud! On every job that we do, we use at least a ten mill gold top foil pad and this pad works great it is a recycled pad and it has a great longevity! I think you should look for a dense pad minimum ten millimetre thick 😄👍
@nonaldb6721
@nonaldb6721 3 жыл бұрын
@@KeithShannonDirectCarpet Cheers! So that polyurethane option would be the the best for sound dampening I take it. Also, have you ever used the felt type under room carpets? does it compressed itself over time?

@@nonaldb6721 I have seen felt before it seems pretty thin and when we rip it out it’s very dirty and messy. I think your good with the recycled pad👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

You mighti also want to load on blades because you are cutting against staples. Thanks for the upload. Have one more comment on previous video pertaining to stairs.
