Ah, one of my favorites. "Whole Lotta Love" is blues infused rock. Every LZ song is multi-layered taking the listener on a real journey, which is why the fewer the interruptions the better. Thanks for making the effort not to pause too much. :) If you're taking requests, try "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". A different vibe but one cool song. But just about every song will eventually be recommended, which is why I had previously suggested that you just start from the beginning and work your way through each album. Yeah, Plant's voice is/was amazing. Remember, no auto tune back then. What you're hearing is just how they sounded, and they were amazing. Great reaction, I enjoyed that. Edit: The singer, Robert Plant, is still alive and still recording at age 73. The only band member who has passed away is the drummer, John Bonham, but that was back in 1980 and it resulted in the band breaking up. For the 12 years LZ was together, it was the same four guys and when Bonham died, they felt that he was such an integral part of the group that they just couldn't go forward as a band without him. Sad all the way around.

Thanks kid for your Thrilling first time reaction to "Whole lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. You might want to know that because it became a top 10 single, "Whole lotta Love" was the "first time listener song" of Led Zeppelin for MOST of the Kids back in 1969. And our first time reaction was similar to yours. BLOWN AWAY! Cheers from the Rock and Roll Past!

60's, 70's and 80's is where the bulk of the greatest music comes from. I was a freshman in college when this came out in 1969. The words do have meaning. lol "I'm going to give you every inch of my love". It's fun watching young people react to the times we lived in. Thanks for sharing.

Dude, that is exactly how we all reacted the first time we all bought this album and played it at home. We were freaking out and all knew we were hearing something great. Note: if you listen again, watch the live clip video of this. It's the same song, just with some live clips. It's so fun watching them in action on stage.

The only thing about the official video is the spacey interlude has been truncated at least a minute or so. Otherwise, it's a fantastic collage of various concerts of the band performing this song. Looking at those concert clips, their live performances must have been absolutely breathtaking back in the day.

@@jamesaron1967 there was a shorter version for radio at one point. I guess they used that. I dig this video enough though, to forgive that omission.

@@sfbayareagirl Yes, there actually was a shorter version now that you mention it. It has been over 40 years since I last heard this song on the radio and forgot about it. I think it's good they chose this version for the official video. Today, people have far shorter attention spans, and may not appreciate a psychedelic freak out in the middle of a high energy song. The freak out is short enough to keep people tuned in but not too short to sound abrupt and edited.

Since you're new to LZ, you should start in album/track order because if you go by most requested songs alone, you will miss a lot. The reason it sounded swirly was because they used a technique called "panning" so they would put sounds on one side or another and make them go back and forth. Yes, all but drummer John Bonham are alive. Guitarist, band founder/producer Jimmy Page is 78. He doesn't perform anymore but keeps Zeppelin's legacy going. Bassist, mandolin, and keyboard player John Paul Jones is 76. He's still active musically but prefers to work in more unusual areas of music. Singer, harmonica player Robert Plant is 73. He still records and tours. Drummer John Bonham passed away in September,1980 at the age of 32 and the band would officially break up in December of 1980.

LZ came along c.1969 and filled the void, along with the Jeff Beck group, left by the demise of Cream. You'll want to check them out too to get a sense of music in the late 60's- early 70's. Musically it was a time that can never be duplicated. Most of the music holds up very well over time. Dive in deep and don't listen to rap. It will toxify your spirit. Jimmy Page was one of the Big Three British blues/rock guitarists, the others being Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. They all played at one time or another with the seminal UK rock band The Yardbirds. My personal favorite back in the day. Add them to your list. There were others as well, notably Peter Green. Clapton was a brilliant soloist/improvisor, Beck was a flashy wildman (but very cool about it), and Page was an innovator/explorer. As you can hear from the total guitar freakout in this tune. After making it as a mega-band, LZ's songwriting matured. The Battle of Evermore has a Lord of the Rings feel to it. Happy Listening kid. Did I say don't listen to rap? I think I did

There's a movie called "It Might Get Loud" which is basically Jimmy Page, Zepplin's guitarist, Jack White from the White Stripes and the Edge from U2 just sitting around talking about music. At one point Page starts to play the opening riff of "Whole Lotta Love" and you have to see the looks on the faces of the other two. It's like they're teenagers in awe hearing it for the first time.

Silas, if you want to experience a Led Zeppelin concert, you need to watch the Led Zeppelin movie “The Song Remains The Same”. It’s a full 2 hour movie that was released in theaters in 1976 and was massively popular. It combines concert footage with fantasy sequences of each band member. The movie was filmed at Madison Square Garden on the last 2 dates of their 1973 North American tour.

Mike Silas. I couldn't agree with you more!!! I own the DVD THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. If you want to come as close to seeing the totally amazing and talented Led Zeppelin, you should watch this. Another great one is THE Mother Ship. I went to see Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience. He plays the drums (obviously) they do all of Led Zeppelin's songs. They are very, very good!!! Jason Bonham plays Moby Dick with his famous father. They play side by side a screen of John Bonham comes down beside Jason Bonham and they play the song together ❤️ I couldn't help but get a little bit chocked up. They play as one!!! It's incredible 😍 THE way they move, everything. It's like watching them in a mirror!!! Except for the physical differences. I highly recommend going to see Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience if you have the opportunity to. That is absolutely the closest thing to seeing the best band in Rock History. Jason Bonham certainly would not be involved in putting this band together if the other 3 members weren't up to the huge task of doing His Great, Late Father, John Bonham and the other 3 incredible, uncomparable members. They don't look like the Golden God, Robert Plant, the quiet and extremely talented John Paul Jones or the guitar legend of Rock, the sweet, sexy and creative Jimmy Page. The sound is there!!!! I am not a very kind critic when it comes to Led Zeppelin covers. If they are bad, trust me I'm going to be the first to say that they stink. Sorry, I'm harsh. I totally enjoyed the Led Zeppelin Experience!!!! These guys are not Led Zeppelin, but they are, extremely good. Led Zeppelin is definitely a very hard band to attempt to cover. They were the best of the best.

@@micheleberara2842 When “The Song Remains The Same” opened in movie theaters in 1976, it pretty much stayed there for the next 20 years or so. In the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s movie theaters all over the US, Canada, most of Western Europe, Australia & Japan would show it. It was often shown at night, sometimes around midnight, and it was usually shown with another concert film, like “Pink Floyd At Pompeii” or “Heavy Metal”. Granted, the audience was mostly stoners, so it was a very friendly crowd. Some theaters had excellent sound systems, so it was like being at a very loud rock concert. It’s too bad more theaters don’t show these types of movies anymore, I would bet that if “The Song Remains The Same” was brought back to movie theaters, it would attract a whole new audience of today’s kids who think that rap and hip hop are the best types of music. There is just no substitute for seeing it on a huge movie screen, with the music blasting.

Listen to a track called Pieces by a band called Jinjer, they are a Ukrainian band and are just amazing, then follow this by their track Vortex - note: do not research or listen to those tracks first, it must be a true first reaction. The follow with a band called Nightwish - Ghost love score at Waken 2013, follow it by Yours is an empty hope at Wembley UK. If this blows your mind be ready to be mega impressed!

This is a 1969 song. Let that sink in. What was music like 50 years before 1969? A lot different to this and yet even though this song is more than half a century old it still more than holds it's own against anything contemporary. The truth is we were spoilt for choice back then. There were many great rock bands but this band (IMHO) were just the best at what they did. In the UK at the turn of the 1960s into the 1970s they were one of several excellent rock groups bursting onto the scene. And yes Robert Plant i(the group's singer) is still alive and still performing.

Yes! Robert is still alive. He’s 73 right now. He’s had a forty plus solo career since Zeppelin ceased in 1980 due to Bonhams death. He is currently on tour with Allison Krauss and their backing band doing mostly Americana and folk music. Still does some Zeppelin, but rearranges the songs to better suit his voice as it now is. His voice stays mainly in the middle range now, but he still can bring out the power when needed. Still a lovely voice…..my favorite male vocalist. jimmy Page (founder of the band, guitarist, producer, riff master) is also still with us, he’s 78. And John Paul Jones is also still alive…he’s 76 I believe

I saw that you reacted to Buddy Holly with your uncle. Think about this, 9 years after that was released, we got Zeppelin (along with a lot of other great bands)

When you put it into that perspective, it blows my mind. How much rock and roll music and our society changed in such a short period of time is truly mind-boggling.

Black Dog, Kashmir (Plant's favorite) and the historical biggie Stairway to Heaven. You should watch some performances to see why we went feral over this band.

I have seen many reaction videos and there are some reactors who do not pause their videos at all but do not get flagged for doing so. Most often, it is the visuals that are flagged and not the music itself.

Get strapped in...you are going to love this ride! Robert Plant is still alive. What you get with Zep is rock and roll with BLUES in there.....something you don't get in popular music today.

When you asked do Robert Plant is still alive it was so funny to me because a right before you have been so amazed by his voice and this combined sounds like it is impossible he can be still alive when he had so amazing voice. LMAO 😂

Record stores were hang out places in the 70s.... people would stand in line for new music like they used to do for a new iPhone release. Wait until you get to Physical Graphitti album.... the Apex of Led Zep..... the last album before Jimmys heroin use started affecting his brain... such a wide range of sounds

Hey, Silas, everyone but the drummer is still with us. Robert Plant has made 11 complete original solo albums (plus compilations) since Zepp finished, and quite a few collaboration albums with Jimmy page, and also Alison Krauss. He's touring The States with Alison right now, it's more modern country style than rock, but he does do re-imaginings of older songs sometimes. Loved your reaction, and although this song is more than 50 years old it still had me sweating too.
