Yup, he had a once in the world opportunity to ride the wave between silence and one-liners. "Let's do words this time." ... silence. "So I went on a blind date with this girl." ... silence. The audience began laughing during his second set as well, and then he basically interrupted them with more words. But now, he has broken his own silence, and anyone trying to do the same is just an imposter. His first set is still genius, though. Respect.

Comedy is all about defying expectations. You get people to assume something, and then flip it on them. But comedians all get there the same way, fundamentally. A setup, followed by a punchline. This guy defied the audience’s expectations from the very beginning and never let up. The assumption that he’s defying is that a standup comic is going to talk 😂
