The ambiance made this game almost suffocating, the scenarios and wonder your mind creates from the utter sound of the place forces your brain to imagine the amount of suffering and sorrow that went on in the place. I do film makeup for a living and whenever I have a gore shoot or horror themed job I will listen to this

Toluca Prison - A reminder of Silent Hill's troubling history and just how rattled with evil the town is. It's bad enough that the town is trying to kill you with creatures born from your darker side. Now, you have to venture into an old abandoned prison, possessed by ghosts of prisoners who met horrid ends at the hands of the cult. Even worse, you can't tell if this place is perverted by the Town or if James is effectively losing grip on reality and now just wandering about abandoned buildings in a fit of psychosis.

This is exactly what I love about SH2: you can't be always sure are you in the otherworld or in psychosis

Another thing that makes it worse: One of the files of the game says the original prison was already demolished and doesn't exist anymore. So either the town conjured a whole dimension and rebuilt the prison (underneath the lake, where a lot of people died) or if James is just seeing a prison out of nowhere

13:45 I remember hearing this outside on the empty big field from the prison. My friend and I really thought someone is coming but it was only the background sound. Hearing it now again makes me shiver.

ah, I love this part so much. scary, makes me shiver too, but still the best among all of the games I've played. I think silence makes every sound decision much better

That wrustling sound at one point absolutely fucked with my head when I heard it out in that big open field I ran out the room, half expecting whatwve that was to chase me out of there, then armed myself as much as possible preparing for a big fight. I was scared to even go back out there. Felt quite trolled when I released it was just ambient noise.

In my opinion, if I had to make a list of the best SH 2 scenarios, this would be in 1st place. The atmosphere is suffocating and the sounds are agressive, almost as if you were experiencing the suffering of the prisioners who, in top of everything, keep haunting the place with their sorrow.

I know the point is to question why theres no ad on the billboard. But I try to understand the unsettlement here yet I don't quite understand it. Perhaps a sign telling you that this place was abandoned quickly? A metaphor for James? I'm probably thinking way too deep into this though.
