I watched everything to the end. Your settings are not suitable for LG C1, for example the PC version. Everything remains very dark even with ray tracing enabled. I turned it up with Mid lum 45 and HDR Brightness at 3.0. After all this it’s still dark, but with a flashlight it’s ok. If you raise it further, there are construction lights in bright areas.

Your settings definitely look better for me. The opening bathroom scene looked strangely washed out when I started. Your settings made that better plus as I got a little deeper into the game, being inside buildings looks really good. Things are dark enough to be spooky and I can still see. I knew when I saw all of their HDR sliders I would probably be stuck playing with them. Your video saved me a lot of time. Thanks!

As of the latest patch on PS5 the HDR settings seem to have changed. Default now sets the peak brightness to 500 nits and the mid-point has changed to 50. I now have to leave HDR brightness at the default of 1.20 otherwise picture is completely washed out with the recommended settings.

Thank you for your settings! I compared your settings with mine and yours delivered a better picture, but I kept my increased HDR brightness of 3.20. I made my monitor darker in general so I had to increase it a little bit Im playing on PC with the 34" Alienware DWF QOLED :) edit: at certain locations the game was still too dark for me but once I found the flashlight it all was fine

It’s the art direction, muted and very moody that determines the HDR here but this has to be one of the most comprehensive HDR controls in a game.

That HDR menu right there is why HDR never pick up steam with the mainstream users. Sony and Microsoft should enforce the use of console HDR settings so users set them up once and play.

yeah there's no point in having that system level calibration if hardly any games use it. but i've noticed games that do use it tend to have much better hdr results. i agree i think it should be mandatory for developers to support it

Great settings. Only thing I changed was setting the min luminance to 0.0, and adjusting it manually with reshade.

So I just forced HDR into Dragon Quest XI S on PC, I believe all Unreal Engine 4.14 and above this should work (maybe older versions ymmv), running on a LG C2, suggest turning Windows HDR on so it doesn't turn off/on when coming in and out of the game. In my opinion, without any adjustments, it's a great HDR experience. Engine.ini tweak [SystemSettings] r.AllowHDR=1 r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1 r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=5 r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=2 r.HDR.UI.CompositeMode=1 r.HDR.UI.Level=1.1

For the max luminance slider, if a person doesn't know their tvs proper nit value the best way to set it is turn it all the way down then slowly increase it until you can tell going higher is not making it any brighter.

Thanks. Been waiting for this. Very hard to eye the settings myself without a a calibration tool. I lowered mids to 10 and min to zero as I thought min was black level and didn’t understand why it was labeled as negative and mids at 15 looked washed out with min that high and hdr brightness settled at 270. It looked better then factory but this is much better. I Will absolutely use your settings

Tyvm! Found these settings very useful on my new LG 34 ultra wide OLED monitor Edit: after going back outside I’ve noticed with HDR on it blows out the brights to an unnaturally high level, sadly. On a 34gs95qe so I ended up turning HDR off and everything it much more uniform now. Not sure if this is just relegated to the PC OLED monitors or not. Ok. More progress. For me HDR brightness needed to be brought down to 2.0-2.1. Help correct some of the blown out brights.

I’m leaving HDR to the default settings in Silent Hill 2. I use my LG G2 with DTM on and have both my TV and PS5 set to Limited RGB range 16-235, I noticed the colours pop a lot more and deep blacks stay black. Full RGB range washes out and raises black levels in naturally dark games using UE5 like Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn Remake, Alan Wake 2 and Layers of Fear. I also tried Horizon Forbidden West with Limited RGB range and the colours pop a lot more and the shadows from grass and trees a lot more deep black and rich. I would show pictures as proof but KZbin doesn’t have that option.

@@mrtron7837 The settings you are using wrong, you are cutting off the highlights in the image. You should use HGIG, and set the black level to full RGB on the screen and consoles. Do not use DTM on

@@ronyomar100 The problem with HGIG is that it assumes that developers have calibrated HDR settings by these standards, which most have not. Rode this horse with RE4 and actually found dynamic settings on my OLED did the job better than HGIG. Not much point in a universal standard if no one is subscribing to it.

I think hdr can make a game stand out in other ways than just specular highlights. Don’t get me wrong that’s a big part of it but hdr done right blacks should be darker colors more vivid overall just a more lifelike image. I recently got the ps5 pro and I messed with the hdr settings for about an hour trying to get those raised blacks eliminated. My settings through trial and error were almost identical to urs. Playing on a 77” lg c4 btw and I think the game looks very nice using those settings. I have my peak brightness on 1500 though and I know the c4 probably doesn’t quite hit that number but it’s pretty close and it’s been a solid upgrade over the c1 I replaced. Heute gab es anscheinend einen Patch. Kann es sein, dass da was an den HDR Settings gedreht wurde? Die mittlere HDR-Luminanz steht jetzt standard auf „50“ nicht mehr auf „15“. HDR UI jetzt auf „350“ statt „300“. HDR Helligkeit jetzt „1.2“ statt „1.5“. Habe den LG G4 und es sieht mit den Standard Settings nun deutlich besser aus. Nur die Max HDR-Luminanz habe ich auf 1500 (stand die nicht auf 1000? Nun 500) gestellt, bei aktivem HGiG.

After playing for a couple hours I started to believe that either these settings are wrong or that something is wrong with my LG G4, as the first chapter of the game has many areas where setting the HDR Min Luminance so low seems to black out more of the scenes than it should and making it hard to see in various areas. I ended up reverting just that setting to it's default -4.00 as it felt more appropriate. However... once I made it to Chapter 2/Wood Side Apartments and spent time indoors with scenes illuminated sometimes exclusively by flashlight, it became obvious that the blacks were quite washed out/grey with the Min Luminance set to default. Changing it back to this channel's recommended -12.00 fixed it and the game looks great again in this area. It seems that my real problem was just how this game's lighting engine looks in the early areas prior to getting your flashlight and with many outdoor to indoor transitions complicating things. Anyway, thanks again for this video!

Thanks for the settings, I have LG oled G4 83inch, the only thing I may change or adjust is HDR brightness, most probably I bit brighter if required, I'm still in a house, so it depends on how it looks on the outside street, game is looks amazing with UE5, sadly my 3090 can't handle RT, but I am waiting for the 5090, many thanks for your HDR content very helpful in games, especially on oled tvs.

Quick Comment: Excellent video, the settings look pretty nice but the further you get on the game, the blacks are deeper and deeper. I had to crank up the brightness as I was having a bit of a headache trying to force myself looking into the darkness (Like my iris trying to gather more light). In the beginning it looks great, but once you reach the Silent Hill Historical Society it was pretty hard to see on my s95b.

I have a lg g3 tv on hgig and so it already makes the game very dark and usually I need to increase the brightness of any game but it gives such great visuals. Coming back to these Nov 19th on a CX, they look pretty good. Can adjust mid level to taste. What’s a shame is the PS5 Pro issue and patches. I waited on this and COD but both patches didn’t come out so great. Seems like it’s still early days, and base PS5 is still preferred. Seems like an incoming patch from Blooper on both systems soon.

I think the HDR in this game looks good with a few tweaks in the HDR sliders/settings, when you exit the hospital and outside is night and it rains HDR looks phenomenal!
