The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

Silent Hill 2 just feels like a unique experience, even if it shares the DNA of the other Silent Hill games. Many games, especially indie ones, have tried to capture the tone and subtlety of Silent Hill 2 and failed.

We use to be able to walk in a store and have bangers like silent 2 hill and deus ex right next to each other, we got so many amazing games so often. I feel sorry for anyone getting into gaming now.

I’ve been on the search for SH2 for about 5-6months. I finally hit the jackpot and found it in my local pawn shop for $100!!!! It had the original manual, case and disc. I was shaking when I saw it lol. Ive been playing it nonstop. 100/10 game

They won't. Prepare to be severely disappointed by the sound design of the remake if you're a fan of the original. Best we can hope for imo is good music

I think at the part where you run back into Maria and she's in the jail cell perfectly represents how James felt like a prisoner to his wife's condition and it separating her from the affection he had towards her, and at the same time, she was a prisoner, locked away from him because of the disease? I don't know this is what it always made me feel

Maria implies wanting some kind of sexual encounter with James but says she "can't do a thing through these bars." Might be symbolic of James and Mary not being able to be intimate because of her disease.

Want to add one that should be here. Pyramid Head actually ISN'T a purely unique manifestation of James; only his physical look is. His likeness predates James by quite a while as he is stated to be physically based of the Executioner depicted in Silent Hill Historical Society. His actual being FAR predates that however, as he is directly stated to be a creature who is a part of Valtiel (ie, he is one of many physical aspects. For those that don't know, aspects are basically a form split off from a divine being that can function on its own and even possibly have its own will, representing some key aspect from said being. It's incredibly common throughout all mythologies/religions) or IS Valtiel. The reason for why there could be two possibilities is simply because of its wording phrasing it as such (basically saying it's either or, but never giving the 100% correct answer), but I think it makes sense if Pyramid Head is an aspect who represents Valtiel's Judgement (or probably more likely, the judgement of God who he serves). This is exactly why it makes sense that he can appear in more Silent Hills down the line. Not just the obvious one like the case of the Boogeyman, but he is likely also the Butcher and he's confirmed to be Valtiel/Valtiel's aspect of Judgement. TL;DR - Pyramid Head isn't a manifestation unique to James, only the way he specifically looks in Silent Hill 2 is. I could go a bit deeper if anyone wants to know more, but yeah.

My favorite silent hill game is the canceled one Playable Teaser. I beat it and it was absolutely incredible, played a little bit of silent hill 1 back in the day. Super hyped to beat the new silent hill 2 remake as im a fan of bloober games ive also beat layers of fear 1 and 2 and Observer

Not to be the "acshually ☝🤓" guy, but Masahiro Ito has already debunked the theory that many bros so fiercely defend about James being s3xu4lly frustrated and has also debunked the "r4p3" scene about Pyramid Head with the mannequins. He even addressed that on twitter recently too after some nasty dude got all mad at Ito and called him r4cist things after Ito also debunked (again) the "James is looking at you" thing that people over there keep bringing up as canon. Ito has also mentioned on other occasions that he didn't design those monsters (nurses, mannequins, or even PH) with that meaning in mind. This next part take it with a grain of salt because I can't remember if it was him or someone else but it was mentioned that the nurses could also be closer to Mary rather than James, as she's the one who stayed most of her time in the hospital, she felt disgusting and often lashed at James and so on. Plus, James always looks kinda uncomfortable whenever Maria makes any advances on him, and he also ever says or acts in a way that could lead you to think he's "s3xu4lly frustrated" (neither towards her, nor Mary, nor Angela). There might be s3xu4l longing in his character, yes, but not s3xu4l frustration.

Ito said Pyramid head is partially based on bdsm gear and the 2 scenes with pyramid head assaulting mannequins aren’t actually depicting sa but are intentionally made to resemble it

@@internettraveler8666 Just a couple days ago Ito basically said there was no r4p3 in that scene and sort of implied that that idea is fanon and not canon and even mocked it a bit (this was in response to someone who pointed out how obsessed part of the SH fandom seems to be with that one PH scene). Also the use of BDSM aesthetics/influence doesn't automatically tie the monsters to "s3xu4l frustration". Yes, it makes them suggestive, and like I mentioned in my og reply, there IS s3xu4l longing on James' end, but not an actual "s3xu4l frustration".

I'm gonna go ahead and call death of the author on this one, the sexual frustration symbolism is just too strongly present and fits in perfectly with his past and his guilt. IMO anyway.

@@tsulong I'd say it seems like "it fits" because a lot of fans have confused sexual longing for sexual frustration and have associated the later with James for the longest time. However, there doesn't seem to be actual sexual frustration themes in the game, or at least not enough to firmly claim James is actually sexually frustrated (which would require way more sexual themes and hints to fully drive that point across, similar to how Angela's monster and boss fight are very on the nose about the theme of SA, for example), all this especially after you realize it's all more of James' sexual longing towards the person he loves, and which actually makes the whole thing more interesting and poignant since we learn he DOES love Mary, and which also adds to why he seems a bit uncomfortable every time Maria tries to make some kind of advance on him instead acting on some supposed "sexual frustration" and thinking with his dicc and just letting himself go like an actually sexually frustrated person in his position would.

Konami needs to get over SH2 and give us a 1 to 1 remake of Silent Hill with updated graphics. I don't trust Christoph Ganes to be faithful to SH2 after what he did to the first one by taking Harry out because he had a sexist belief men don't care about their kids as much as women do, so we got those extra scenes with Sean Bean because the studio was like "more men!"

The James looking at the mirror thing is actually a misunderstanding, he does look directly at the camera in the Wallpaper released to advertise the game but does not do it in actual gameplay. But that doesn’t stop people from continuously saying that he’s looking at you, he’s not. Sorry to be the person to tell you this, but I am also the same person that tells everyone that red velvet cake is just chocolate cake with red food colouring

@@hunterv9259 Other then hearing, your other senses do actually have a small effect on how your food tastes. Touch is the least likely one to effect you, but some autistic people genuinely have an aversion to some foods based on how they feel. However, you don't even have to be autistic to simply enjoy foods better when their textures are just right. Smell is the one that effects everyone and is 100% proven. If you like the way food smells, your brain will simply make you enjoy it more. That meme of the lady sniffing chocolate and then chowing down on some salad is actually legit. There are even products regarding water bottles that deploy scents before you drink. The way food looks also plays into taste, but not nearly as much as smell. Simply put, if you perceive food as looking tasty, it will actually taste marginally better. The human brain is quite the interesting fleshy computer. This all makes sense as we have verified quite a while back that emotions can noticeably effect your physical health. Not to mention experiments with the placebo effect and how it genuinely has a small effect on people despite being completely psychological. Anyways, yes, you liking the red color of the cake actually does attribute to it tasting better for you.
