I remember that a typical jetliner's engines were of a smaller diameter than you see now, and the mounting nacelles placed them *_ under_* the leading edge of the wing, with just a small fraction of the engine protruding in front of the leading edge of the wing. When I noticed that the engines were fatter (larger diameter) and farther from the underside of the wing, and had "moved" farther forward, with half or more of the engine now forward of the leading edge, I definitely noticed. But I didn't think too much of it, as I assumed engine design had advanced, and when it was time for these planes to receive new engines, they received the upgraded design, which included new mounts, somewhat altering their location a little. So .. that's not what happened?

Thanks for this vid. And just like you, I too had a similar non-scientific theory about death. My idea was that our life is represented as a seed growing into a tree. The seed is us when we're born, and every branch are the many possible realities of our lives. One branch is the reality where you're rich, one is where you're poor, one is where you're a different sex, etc etc. But even if each branch is a different life, it's still part of ONE tree and YOU are that whole tree. The reality you see now is just one of your many branches, and if this branch "dies", you're still alive because the whole tree and it's many branches is still alive. And when your branch dies, your point of view just shifts to another branch. Like in one branch your life ends in a car accident, but then your POV just shifts to another branch where you survived that same car accident.

This is good material for a short story that I'm probably too lazy to write. Think of a man (or a woman if you think us guys have already capitalized too much protagonism) who lives an ordinary life, has several close brushes with death, and starts thinking of this theory. It turns out to be true. He ages. People he knows slowly die, he survives his friends, his wife, his children, his children's children. He's seen as a freak of nature. He even becomes famous for a short while that feels even shorter to him. He makes several attempts to off himself but luckily (or rather unfortunately) he survives every time. He ends up bedridden, no one there to make him company. All that's left is the physical pain of his body getting weaker and weaker. His life hangs by a thread but the thread always holds. Eons go by. The Earth becomes a desert. The Sun engulfs it. He's a living mummy, floating in space, without breath or food, somehow alive against all odds, in immeasurable pain, alone in the dark of space with his darker thoughts. Millions of years he spends like this, until he forgets his name and who he is, and becomes pure consciousness, adrift in the void. He is more tired than anything has ever been. He finally goes to sleep and dreams of nothing, for who knows how long... until he has a dream where a spark bursts out of nowhere.
