people don't talk about this alot but Team Silent, after Konami yeeted them, actually created their own lil studio under the name, Team Siren. They created more horror games call Siren, all having similar ideas to Silent Hill but basing themselves more on a random lil island in Japan, instead of somewhere in the US. You still can. There is PUBG. Many hate it, but I absolutely love it - I always wanted a military sim with matchmaking and elements of survival. There are Larian with Divinity: Original Sin which became new Baldur's Gate. There are asynchronious horror games like Dead by Daylight featuring our favorite childhood movie killers in 1v4 PVP enviroment. And finally, there are Frictional Games with SOMA which is very, very close to Silent Hill in respect of unpretensions yet thought-provoking emotional story and horror that relies on atmosphere and not jumpscares and extreme attention to details. I strongly recommend this game if you liked Silent Hill. All these games were recently made by self-publishing studios (basically indie - hence indie stands for independent developer). All these games had a relatively low budget (Larian were completely sponsored by fans even) and came out super strong in their own niche and caught hearts of the fans, unlike every-year-new-forgetable-AAA-game that are made by big publishers. Finally, there is a game that I really waiting for - Death Stranding. So the grass just as green as it was - you just need to look around!

Silent Hill 2 is my favorite thing ever. I would argue that it's almost perfect in it's execution. It's an incredibly powerful, emotional, and twisted story that seeks to be subtle by using symbolism but in no way comes off as pretentious. It drives fear in the player with it's clunky controls (which I believe was intentional), and uses themes of death, love, parenthood, etc. to connect with the player and present an emotional powerhouse while still managing an eerie and illusive atmosphere. David Lynch himself couldn't top this shit. I think that all forms of media could learn from this game, not just the games industry.

I think the point of Laura is that kids can do and say mean things but it spawns from genuine innocence, the kind where you say things because you do not know or care better as a kid. She still has her own ego of a kid but she is not bogged down by sins like rest of the cast because she literally has not had time to commit any to her soul. After YOU pointing out her mean streak though, I for first time thought of this, much like everything else in SH2 Laura too is part of showing beautiful ugliness and I never put the theme of her character fully into my mind - that innocence is not same thing as faultless or perfection, it can be actually the opposite side of the coin that are sinners knowing full well what they've done and have guilt over. So thanks, snakeboy11823

Beautiful video Jakey! Team Silent's work is so special, and was crafted with nothing but passion. The first three Silent Hill games are masterful pieces of art. The Room is still special, but the lack of Hiroyuki Owaku and Masahiro Ito is definitely felt. Silent Hill 3 is my personal favorite. Sure, I love James' melancholy trek through a personally crafted hell, and I love the desolate locations, thick atmosphere, and each of the broken characters. But I love Heather's journey of revenge and self discovery even more. I believe Silent Hill 3 is Team Silent's best work. I think it has Akira Yamaoka's best music. I think it has the series best art design with living breathing environments, thought provoking monstrosities, and highly detailed characters. I love the lore of the cult. I love Heather and Douglas as protagonists, and I love Claudia and Vincent as antagonists. I love learning what happened to Harry, and it's so cool revisiting locations that Harry explored as Heather. I love everything about Silent Hill 3. I also love that its existence is proof that everything in the first game is real, and not some dying dream or psychotic episode.

I started watching you back at the end of 2017 and binged all your videos except this one because I'd never played SH2 and for some reason I really didn't want to spoil the video for myself, so for two years I've been trying to boot it up on and off but never got around to playing it until yesterday it grabbed me and I finished it in one breath and I can now proudly say I've watched all your vids and don't regret it one bit love, kostya

I remember I got my Silent Hill 2 Collector's Edition for PS2 at a local game store (the kinds that don't exist anymore). I traded about 10 old games me and my sister didn't play anymore for it. I still remember our joy when we got it and how utterly terrifying but also mesmerizing the whole game experience was. Even after all these years, it's simply one of those precious relics that will never get old or tiresome.

God, Konami has destroyed themselves. I'm still bitter about how they fucked up The Phantom Pain and rushed it out the door.

MassiveGat - Gaming what sucks is that there is some signs that it could've been good. It has so much potential, but Konami was like fuck you.
@massivegat50877 жыл бұрын
I still thought it was great but it never felt whole. The story was sub par and was kinda thin, but the worst part was that the story that was there was really really good and had some phenomenal moments. It was a great game when it came out but it could've been legendary. All the core stuff was there and the story was there but it wasn't whole. All I can say is fuck Konami for rushing The Phantom Pain and not letting Kojima finish the game properly and make it the perfect game to send the series off.

(Just thought I'd leave a relevant comment to make up for FatDolan's) Not a lot of games have truly scared me, like really got under my skin. Silent Hill 2 is one of those rare games that have. I will never see apartment complexes the same, I will never see thick fog the same, nothing will be able to provoke the same amount of dread and uneasiness this game has. Shits a masterpiece

Its weird and annoying how Takayoshi Sato has been basically erased over the last 20 years, you never hear his name anymore. Its always Masahiro Ito.

"Didn't you say that series was dead? I don't look like a ghost, do I?" "Yeah. Died of that damned disease, three games ago. I don't believe it! You could be her twin. Just your fog, and voice acting's different..."

Silent hill 2 was the greatest in the series. I remember when it first came out it wasn’t very well received because of its mystery and its complexity. I enjoyed the first game but not nearly as much as I enjoy the second. And what I think is most fascinating is that silent hill downpour was the closest to come to the beauty of the second. Say what you will about the American producers but downpour? That game was amazing.

This was a game that absolutely horrified me without one jumpscare. Everytime I would boot up the game to inch closer to the ending, I would have to take breaks since my anxiety would continously climb as I play more and more with it's dread-laden atmosphere and that churning grinding soundtrack with that melancholic indie rock sprinkled in. Silent Hill 2 definitely feels like a cursed nostalgia the first time you play through it, and the more you play through it the more that feeling starts to cement itself, as if your remembering something you never wanted to figure out. There hasn't been any games like it since that induce that same sense of paranoia/tenseness unfortunately.
@Cyborganna Жыл бұрын
Exactly this! This game is responsible for getting me into Urbexing before it became a thing. There have only been a few instances of me feeling that deep eerie foreboding in real life, but nothing quite grips the darker parts of my soul like Silent Hill 2 does. It's a unique kind of paranoia that *almost* morphs into an embrace. The very definition of gripping...
