I was pessimistic at first but I think Bloober Team will get it right if they do these things: -Add lots of loot boxes throughout, especially shimmering bright boxes throughout the apartments and labyrinth -Plenty of QTE's with giant prompts on screen (looking good so far!) -Get rid of the subtlety that Team Silent had in the original game, that wasn't clear enough for us as silly gamers -At least 1 minecart section where we shoot rockets at Pyramid Head's cock to get a new high score for more 1 up's That's all we need for it to get 10/10 metacritic scores!

The most irritating thing has been seeing people in fan groups say we “should be grateful for what we get” and “stop complaining”. No wonder they think they can get away with shitting all over one of the most subtle narratives put to gaming when so many fans don’t really respect it. Then again many fans seem to think any vague statements about mental health are “deep” based on some of the reactions to that free game they just released. It makes me fully think that a large part of the supposed SH2 fanbase don’t actually understand SH2 or why it works

Sure some elements are more obvious than others, but the game is very careful in how it reveals its hand. Just because many of those things are well known on account of the game now being over 20 years old does not remove their quality. @@redneckreviews3016 No one is saying the game is ready, but what they are already showing is marketing materials. It’s representative of the game by their own admission, and while there will obviously be some changes it is absolutely fair to draw judgments based on this. That’s not new, that’s the entire point. This defence of “wait until it’s finished” seems to presuppose that corps have an inherent right to our business. In marketing they need to justify our purchase, not the other way around. So far, they are failing to do that as this video soundly puts. If you don’t like the story of SH2, then you do you. There’s many videos out there explaining why the story has deeper depth than you are saying, and I invite you to watch them. Or hell, just play the game again but with an eye to environmental design and game design. But if you don’t like it, then fair enough, in which case I’m not sure why you are so mad that people are criticise a remake of a game you don’t like.

i haven’t watched the video fully yet, but allegedly, the trailer is a konami edited trailer from a build from april or may last year. i think we should give it time as there was a tweet posted with additional footage, but slowed action and it was like 5 seconds and looked so much better. anyway, looking forward to the video, but ofc, will watch later. edit: after watching finally, i agree with alot of the things you’ve been saying about this project. it just doesn’t incredibly feel like this mysterious game that we are so familiar with. it’s such a weird concept to modernize it in a way that it’s being, but again, keeping in mind if the leak was true, the trailer is from april or may last year, and there has been tons of improvements and fixes and this trailer was meant to further improve what people expect. i think bloober has something good, but konami wants to milk what it can. i have the hope still after seeing a certain video, which i can link if you’d like, but otherwise, it’s definitely very troubling to hold hope, but there’s got to be something that is being cooked.

My biggest issue with the gameplay trailer is that they confirms we wont get fixed camera angles. huge downgrade. Also I think the dress in the wardrobe is a wedding dress, I have no idea how to interpret that. The only team I could possibly see having the talent to remake SH2 is Remedy.

Bloober team lacks the nuance and skill to execute silent hill 2s very specific atmosphere and story. But the fault can't be completely put on bloober. A lot of modern gamers don't care about nuance. They confuse nuance with being boring and flat. So to most gamers the gameplay and shooting has to be turned way up to make up for what is in their mind "a boring gameplay experience". They can't understand that the combat in the original game was purposefully bland so it could better accompany the atmosphere and visuals and story. To most gamers now that's stupid and needs to be done away with. A lot of this is a symptom of modern gaming in general. It's a shame because giving bloober team silent hill 2 is like giving a college film student the rights to a ambitious classic film with themes and content that is outside of their wheelhouse. But that's classic konami. They want you to only play and experience what they want. Which is why we still to this day have not gotten a proper silent hill collection on modern consoles. They took the silent hill and metal gear solid hd collections off of playstation plus streaming just before they revealed the remake and dropped the metal gear collection. This remake will do well financially but it wont do well critically. Its not meant to. Its meant to draw in a new generation of zoomers. Which is why they picked silent hill 2 instead of 1. Because they know thats the game that most casual people know. Its also why theyre making a silent hill 2 movie. Makes me nervous af man

Looks like an over-the-shoulder shooter game with a SH2 skin on it. The button prompt made me laugh out loud. Anyone want to take bets that James says to himself what he has to do next, to complete puzzles or progress to the next area? When some channel uploads a no commentary full walkthrough video of it, if you wanted to nitpick that for eight hours, I'd watch that. But, otherwise, there's nothing about this game that was done for me. If I had any lingering enthusiasm, I don't remember what that was. Good videos my dude! Keep them coming.

The way James uses guns in the original was made to look weird because (same as Harry) he is not a guy who has experience with guns. In this trailer, like some ppl said, he wields the shotgun like Leon lol. As an old guard Silent Hill fan who's been replaying the original 4 Silent Hill games religiously since discovering them over 20 years ago, I'm quite sick of these "fans" who have never even played the Team Silent titles trying to hype up absolute, verifiable trash. I personally think the overall environment design looks great and im glad they've kept some of the ridiculous puzzles, aka james using the juice cartons to push the rubbish down. I think some of his swinging animations fit his character. They look desperate and he looks like hes putting everything into it. However poor sound design ruins that. It is rumored that this trailer is from may last year so that's why it looks really janky. Konami UK uploaded small snippets on twitter and it already looks better. Im glad you agree with my point about the Bubble head nurses, it looks completely ridiculous lol. The original Silent Hill 2 is hardly a survival horror game. The community are the ones that came up with the narrative that Team Silent on purposely make their games jank because you play "ordinary" people. Nope, theres nothing that supports this claim. The monster designs were scary but they were never a threat to James at all. It never made sense to waste ammo or time to deal with them. Also the game is way too generous with health and ammo. Bloober can easily make the game over the shoulder and put a lot of emphasis on survival. I.e. greatly reduced ammo and health items, harder enemies. And the QTE adds risk to melee combat, so using your guns adds even more risk simply because ammo is rare. Bloober needs to add risk and decision making in their game. Because the OG sh2 was laughably easy, and not scary at all in terms of actual gameplay. Silent hill 3 on the other is a much harder and terrifying game when it came to gameplay. Also that ordinary people argument is funny because Harry Mason is a badass and Heather Mason wields a giant Maul, katana and a mf uzi. Im trying to stay open minded as much as possible because i love Silent Hill. I fully understand that you are worried that Bloober are going to immensely fuck up the subtletys and story telling. Honestly, I don't know. But the fact this trailer is mostly likely from May last year, maybe a lot has changed. Konami are in charge of marketing, this trailer was out of Bloobers hands. Im open minded about the over shoulder camera because i would love a new perspective of the game, i think its exciting. And if they do actually turn this game into a survival horror. It can work. Overall, Bloober needs to stick to the fucking source material and they need to keep their Egos in check. If they're making changes to the story.. we will know, and they should know it won't go down well. The only thing i found amazing about the trailer was the environments, puzzles and the overall aesthetic. The rest is jank, but i do think it wont be like this on release. The body in the chair will probably change. They probably put that scene together for the trailer. I will sacrifice my wallet for you and I will preorder it. (Yes I'm a sucker)

I wanna touch on a few of your points because I agree with everything you said. I also think it’s weird that people say, “The shitty combat was intentional.” There’s an interview where one of the devs said that they didn’t have extra time or resources to focus on it that much, so they prioritized the story. Obviously I don’t remember it verbatim lol but that’s the gist. Using the “intentional design” logic though, I agree that James’s animations in this trailer do seem like a regular guy trying hard to fight aggressively. Yeah the frame rate seems a bit dodgy but to me it still seems on brand. People also forget that it’s easy to kill enemies in the original lol, so does that negate the supposed point of James being a regular guy? I bring this example up a lot because I adore this game, but Condemned: Criminal Origins is scary as hell despite being action heavy. I rarely used guns because ammo is sparse, so that just left the melee which is intense because not blocking properly can leave you in a bad spot. My only issue is the upgraded taser you get later makes encounters brainless. As long as Silent Hill 2 remake sidesteps a problem like this, I can see it being similar to Condemned, which would make me happy. The number one thing you mentioned is the trailer being out of Bloober’s hands. I’ve seen quotes that Konami sat on this for a few months. Obviously they’re gonna have final say on when Bloober can release updates, which sucks for them if they’ve made good progress. Sorry for the novel haha.

@@TonyQuinn nah it's cool, I love comments like this. I really appreciate it when people either agree with me or not and provide their own opinions. It's kind of the whole point of these videos and topics. Silent Hill 2 needs intense combat. The original had zero tension when you encounter monsters because let's be honest. They were useless against James. I do remember one of the team silent members saying something about them not having enough time to tune combat. But Team silent made 4 silent hill games and all of them had bad combat. Besides Silent Hill 3, that game had really aggressive enemies that force you into tight spaces. It also had limited resources and the combat was genuinely intense. But it was still a clunky mess. I personally think Team Silent sucked at implementing combat into their games. But they compensated it with a brilliant atmosphere and story, that's what they do best. The narrative that they purposely made the combat jank is copium, they just sucked at doing it. Bloober has the opportunity to really turn Silent Hill 2 into a dread filled experience with the combat. We should feel scared and think about how to deal with certain situations, to me. That's survival horror, a game that challenges the player to resource manage and make them think about how to deal with monsters. Either risk beating them or risk wasting bullets on them, or run away. Give us choices, that's what it needs.

Because its Konami. they were probably afraid of releasing the trailer close to the Resident Evil 4 launch. There were so many rumours that we were going to see silent hill 2 in 2023 but it never happened. 2024 was the perfect time to reveal it because right now, all eyes are on it. However, they shelved the trailer that they were meant to release to release last year but then decided to release it now. On the UK Konami page, they released snippets of the game and it looked miles better than the reveal trailer. it had better lighting, James hair was fixed, the animations looked smooth and the bubble head nurse looked creepy... Like I said, marketing is in the hands of Konami and right now they're doing a terrible job, Even bloober is clearly frustrated by it based off their tweets. @@ymck7246

Like they allow gore no problem (though occasionally they change things for some reason, like the RE remakes seem to not ever show the monster transformations on bosses anymore unless that is just a graphical budget issue? And the laser hallway is practically PG) But are terrified of sexuality. I can sort of understand that, but I'm worried because the nurses in Silent Hill are SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable in their apparent sexiness because that shows James feels shame for how he saw them. But they need to be overdone, and the trailer seems to cover them up a bit or de-emphasize it. Its not the worst, I'm definitely suprised that they show any cleavage at all. But there are far worse sexual implications in this game and if they are de-emphasizing something as mundane as cleavage, I doubt a certain character is getting their whole story and section kept in unchanged. Perhaps the Bed enemy will be cut out. The orignal is not a "safe" game by today's standards, so I'm curious how the remake is going deviate from it.

Basically, to summarize all the pessimism and concerns, bloober team severely lacks the subtlety, cleverness, and subtext that is necessarily vital to execute this story. Almost every single aspect of this game that has been shown in the trailers and promotional material misses the mark completely in terms of the story, gameplay, tone, music, and design. There is not a single thing that I've seen or heard that fills me with any ounce of confidence in this remake. I strongly advise that everyone waits until reviews from trusted critics releases (especially from genuine silent hill fans) and absolutely do not preorder!!!

It annoys me that Bloober seem to have a sort of critical immunity. It's like no matter what feedback they get, unless it's appealing to some Polish investors to fund their hack projects, they operate under the false positivity. They always have an excuse for everything. They always manage to worm away. Now this is nothing new with developers...but something about Bloober really annoys me. I think Bloober realize how screwed they are. Because they ripped P.T off and ruined horror games (all horror games have to be P.T or Layers of Fear), then RE2R comes out (Which is a remake with a bunch of issues and a far cry from RE1R), this perfect timing made Konami hire them. Konami thinks Bloober have the qualities of Team Silent. Bloober will never be Team Silent. But Bloober has been given the opportunity of a lifetime...so they think. So why not take advantage of a beloved work of interactive survival horror masterpiece that holds up? Bloober team are just a bunch of subpar hacks and if one looked up their history pre-Layers of Fear, they're all knock-offs of other games. They didn't earn it. They didn't deserve it. If only Konami just left it alone. I hope Bloober's critical immunity ends with Silent Hill 2 remake. Because they're not a subpar low budget hack studio that operates under questionable reasons. They've marketed themselves as a full-on triple AAA studio. This is the big leagues. Also that "Reap what you sow" makes my eyes roll. Among other things. I hope it flops. I hope it fails so we all never have to talk about the remake ever again. There is only Silent Hill 2. No SH2R. Bloober was just one really bad dream.

I can’t wish for the remakes downfall. As somebody who’s grown up playing silent hill 2 original and seeing how the town of silent hill looks with this new hardware and seeing it being done a justice in the remake makes me hopeful. I can’t wish for the remakes downfall because that would mean I wish the downfall of silent hill as a fan. The original silent hill 2 had moments where the storytelling was not as subtle as it should’ve been. The animations look good to me, they don’t look as jank as people make it out to be, and the fog looks great, it gives me a sense of unease looking at the fog. I am hopeful that this game will give me the same feelings I had back then when I first had played.

There are rumors swirling that the "combat trailer" was made from an earlier build of the game back in early 2023. If so, the game's development is much farther ahead and near final stages. Looks like it was a calculated move to get fan reactions and feedback. Also, it's Konami who decides on releasing updated trailers and even release dates, not Bloober. Konami would be wasting a perfect year to release SH2 Remake since it will be a quiet year for Resident Evil. With Alone in the Dark Remake arriving in March 2024, there is no other major horror game along the way from there up to December 2024. September to December 2024 should be the ideal release window for SH2 Remake.

When I saw what they did with "The short message" and the following gameplay trailer for SH:2 Remake... I was so depressed, let down, and completely pissed off that I turned to my husband and I said, "I refuse to pay for this shit." So to be completely honest I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS GARBAGE. And I truly hope that a lot of the core SH fans would do the same. The fact that they had the nerve to change things and still say "We strive to avoid 'Missing the point'" is a slap in all our faces. They literally did everything possible with these trailers that let's us, the fans, know that they HAVE "missed the point". Konami has officially KILLED the SH franchise, and all they are doing is dragging it's lifeless body around like "Weekend At Bernies" and making us pay for it!

I want to keep a optimistic view since there is still no release date ( which is a good thing imo) because that gameplay looks like a RE2/4 remake knock off, but man I can't keep an optimistic view with this SH2 remake because this is bloobers team we are talking about. Konami should've given this project to Tango Gameworks, because The Evil Within is the only horror game I can think of that is similar to Silent Hill games in terms of story manifestation writing and gameplay.

The game was doomed from the moment they went with over the shoulder camera angle. Thats the truth. But everyone acts like semi fixed camera angles is the end of the world. Its all of the fans fault. Why couldn't they do a Resident Evil 1 Remake style? That would have been a perfect. As for me I'm open minded about it. Of course its not going to be as good as the original. The PS2 style graphics and vibe give it the character it has. Today's gamers are too concerned with graphics and animations. If you think Resident Evil 7 and 8 are great Resident Evil games, I can't take your complaints seriously.

Well, I'd say that RE7 starts out well, but then dies off by the time you've dealt with Marguerite in the Greenhouse; and RE8 is technically a 'solid video game' on the basis that it's a lengthy, substantial game with polished play - but that they're both generally bad RE games. RE7 at least has pretenses of being a normal haunted house RE game, but Village doesn't even bother. RE to me is RE 0, 1, 2, 3, REmake, AND RE2 Remake. I don't even like CV but I have to admit it's a legit RE game. I don't like Outbreak's format either. On the other hand RE4 and the remake are some of the greatest games ever made, but I like to pretend that they have nothing to do with RE. LOL I don't care about anything else. Really I just love 1-3, and 1/2 Remake.

I don’t really understand the critiques being given to the silent hill 2 remake, I’ve played the original and grew up with it. I personally think that the game looks great so far given the time of the footage we have right now. To me the town looks phenomenal, the fog looks eerie and the fog makes me uneasy to look at, let alone walk blindly into in the trailer which I think does its job perfectly. I also personally think that the animations of James don’t look as bad as people were making it out to be. I think since he’s just a dude he’s going to be kind of rigid and walk with an uneasy step to himself, like he keeps going even though he’s not really knowing how he’s supposed to get there, like a dream. Also the game being dream like he would be hard to read, and he would be a bit absent minded and wouldn’t react normally, you know? You brought up a detail about the dress I’d like to point out; that part was NOT subtle in the original. The flashlight showing you the truth right in front of your face, like it’s Mary being IN YOUR FACE like “HEY! This is it.” And the camera shifts when you enter the room so you could get a good look of the dress. Let’s look at the writing on the wall (lol pun kind of intended) the writing on the wall you pointed out as comparison was not subtle, telling James to die? But being told he might go to a different place than Mary if he dies? That doesn’t really scream subtlety to me. The creepiest writing i had ever met in a game was “there was a hole here, it’s gone now.” There was something so.. eerily dire about how it was written and how it was portrayed. James now knows how to hold a shotgun, not holding the shotgun by the barrel, which is a good thing. And when James is holding the knife Angela gave him I think his expression shows he doesn’t know how to think about it, and he knows he’s not in the mindset to give people advice about mental health. He’s supposed to be emotionally distant, especially towards other people. He can still be kind but he’s not here for them. Edit: I don’t think it’ll be BETTER than the original, but i also don’t think it will be as terrible as people are making it out to be. We just need to wait until it releases and give a final thought on the final product. It’s still in development so the only thing we can do is wait.

I think the flashlight is intended to be a distraction from the dress. If they wanted to be direct with the fact that Mary's dress is on display, if their intention was to basically tell you that it's Mary's dress and for you to know it without question, rather than see if you figured it out for yourself, they wouldn't have sandwiched it in between two distractions. The dress wasn't the hardest thing in the world to discover, nobody's really ever said that it was, but they at least partially disguised it with more the mechanical, gameplay related, sensory elements that surround it - and design like that is why we lauded the game at the time for its attempts at psychological horror. Same thing with the writing on the wall really. With respect, a lot of the dissemination of Silent Hill 2 in a post-instant internet age, where we've been talking about the mythology for two decades now, is different to how we engaged with the game at the time. I understand why people would think that the graffiti in SH2 is now 'obvious' when we've all been talking about it in depth for 20 years on the internet. In 2001, it was a very different experience to be alone with this game, and largely without the instantaneous internet watching over your shoulder. Back then, talking about it on the internet would largely be in retrospect. When we were reading these texts at the time, they hadn't been disseminated, and as I stated in the video, back then the first playthrough of this game was very much accompanied by a naivety about James' nature. So accusatory texts on the wall were met with mental resistance. Thank you for the effort and courtesy of your comment.

And it’s nice to talk about what the themes and the tones with different scenes of the game. It’s nice and weird to get a whole new feel for the dress scene in particular of somebody else, because that’s just what the dress scene meant to me of Mary shining this bright light in your face and practically being all up in your face saying “hey! What’re you doing??” I am hopeful that it’ll be good, because I can’t bash on the remake being a huge fan specifically of silent hill 2.

In fairness, the shotgun blow on the twitching nurse with the knife does spray a red mist, (and the bathtub is full of blood, but I think you mainly mean blood as a result of combat). I think what they've done is they've given the nurses a mixture of pus and blood that comes out, which I'm not mad about. I actually kind of liked that. What I did find hilarious however is the vaulting nurse, if you look at the slo-mo footage, she has what looks like a green squib tube on her breast which is clipping through her model. As if that's what's producing the green ,like this is a film set and the stunt nurses have exploding bloodpacks in their outfit. LOL Either that or she's just been to a rave.

Sorry to comment again like a loser, but I love your take on the dress being the "truth", because my interpretation of that scene was very much the inverse. For me, it's another reflection of a lie James is telling himself, and the mannequin is what Silent Hill is telling him his truth is. In the end, he only saw Mary as a woman not putting out her sex for him, but he pretended to still see her as his beautiful wife. I love your idea, because it suggests that James really is being truthful when he holds Mary up lovingly, and the mannequin monster is an ugly thing he's trying to ignore, because he knows it's wrong. What I absolutely love about fellow Silent Hill fans of yore is how much one can learn and appreciate by discussing details of the game with one another. The very nature of these games makes them ripe for personal interpretation, and I have never once heard a boring take on them. Thank you for sharing yours and making me fondly reflect on the forum days when I would spend hours talking about these games.

In all honesty and fairness, this trailer’s focus was on combat, so that is what we are mainly seeing here. That being said, if we are to say this game is copying resident evil by combat and player camera prospective, then we are not only limiting the capabilities/potential that comes with such changes, but also completely ignore the fact that resident evil had these same changes as well with the original RE4. There are many critically acclaimed horror games that copy RE’s current gameplay structure that are praised for doing so, but seems odd this trailer is receiving such criticism for the same reason. Not much really can be said about the atmosphere and environment as we haven’t been presented with a trailer/gameplay mainly focused on such with how little exploration is shown in this trailer. The same can be said about the storytelling, there just hasn’t been enough shown that allows genuine criticism/feedback to be provided at this time. So far, the camera and combat seems updated enough to feel modern and worthy against it’s genre competitors, but the animations could use more fine tuning with accurate/realistic body hit collisions. Gun sound effects and shooting weightiness could definitely be improved as well to allow guns to have more of an impact.

Just to make it clear, I've had my hands on all SHs (aside from Downpour), but I'm not a diehard. I respect you guys though. My heart's more RE-oriented, but SH in its original form is amazing. The second dress is a wedding dress, or something very similar to. I bet they're going to erase James's lust and change it to a mercy thing. 'I remember when she was happy and healthy, and can't take it anymore,' negating all the symbology in the game, despite they'll have it in there. It's sad. many people are happy about the new outcome of the game and how it looks, and even the new way of rewriting the story. I personally don't understand why would anyone appreciate this kind of new view. at this point they could just make a new story with different characters. the environments are way too wide, and clean. the feeling is not there also, but according to many comments, a lot of people are just happy about it. the game will have probably a mixed reviews instead of overwhelmingly negative. 50% will say the new story is great while 50% will have the same exact opinion as yours. the original game had fixed cameras, bird view camera (I recall it from the prison), and normal camera showing the whole body from behind, but never over the shoulder. great video, you spoke about literally everything that annoyed me. now reading about ceo of bloober crying over konami that they make shit trailers doesn't even give me more hope knowing that konami is probably reusing everything that bloober already created which made a bigger % of people come defend this project. wild & manipulative stuff.

I sometimes don’t have problems with remakes for example, the dead space remake is an example of a game that was really really good already and they made it even better but I think the biggest difference between dead space, t and the silent Hill two remake is that for a long time the dead space franchise was dead like literally dead and it wasn’t until 2023 when we got the remake silent Hill on the other hand I wouldn’t say it’s dead, but it’s certainly not being handled well by KONAMI. Yeah I’ll probably never play this either.

What was shown looked like a very early build of the game. It's not surprising why devs was silent about it.
