oooh I like this! There's always so much room in this game to theory craft and I think that's a great thing about it. The weird time thing has always been strange in Silent Hill. This stuff doesn't really come up a ton and I'm glad you talked about it. Very well done!

What's very fascinating to me, is that the SH2 remake has details that hint towards a time loop theory as well. There's changes in the remake, that also show that there was something in its place still. Eddies pizza box still in the alley while Laura and Eddie in the remake are in a theater instead, the body where you get the apartment gate key gone but a blood splatter still there, the body still in the first original PH fight room. Its strange.

Cool theories for sure The 3 years could be a reference to when Mary first got sick and that’s when she “died” to James. The Trick Or Treat announcer mentions that the part of SH that you explore has largely been abandoned. In SH 1, it was hinted at that the town fell under economic hardships and only the cultists remained. This could explain why the apartments are run down. They could also be a representation of James degrading mental state Who knows tho

James thinking Mary died 3 years ago is totally a reference to when Mary first got diagnosed, cool detail imo. I don't think the announcer saying South Vale is abandoned should be taken that seriously; the announcer saying South Vale is abandoned could be referencing the literal state of how the town is to James, rather than the town in the real world. The hospital in Silent Hill 3 looks "newer" and more maintained than the one in Silent Hill 2, despite taking place after SH2 and being the same hospital.

@@RuminInLove good points. It was honestly probably just an aesthetic design for Team Silent when using the new hardware since they could be more detailed for atmosphere and environmental story telling. In game, best we can say it represents James’ mental deterioration and then let our imagination go from there

I always thought that the holes in the historical society and in the prision takes you to a past time (maybe sometime in the 40s - 50s, because of the weapon rack and the bathrooms), only to get back to the present before watching the vhs in the room 312 in lakeview hotel.

Maria’s dialogue makes more sense under this theory, and you’re speech is eloquent as always. I never noticed that James viewed today’s date as strange in the newspapers sprawled on the floor, pure genius! The hotel turning from pristine to fire-damaged due to his memories from the past is the biggest indicator of this theory, in my opinion. Awesome video!

Time dialation would explain many issues. I will have to review Silent Hill 2 again with this theory in mind. Thanks for this!

Been looking up theories, and someone on another video suggests James is stuck in a time loop, and through out the game, you can find dead versions of himself. Can anyone confirm the dead bodies thing? Ive beaten 2 five times and dont recall seeing dead bodies of James. Though I never went out of my way to look.
@RuminInLove8 ай бұрын
The body you see when you get the keys to the apartment complex is James's model, and so is the one that is sitting in front of the TV. There's also a James surrounded by notes on one of the streets as well.
@Lokichaotic8 ай бұрын
@@RuminInLove I remember the one from the apartment but never thought it was actually James. Thank you for the others! That is awesome and fits the theory.

@@RuminInLove the dead bodies on tv apparently because the developer doesn't want to spend making new models

I still haven't really sat down and thought about the Mary being dead for 3 years and Laura just turning 8 thing which a little odd to me. With the Maria acting a little off because you're meeting her non chronologicaly against time, I'm actually on board that there is something to do with time in this game. But I'm just wondering why is the town doing it though

I had to come back to this video after watching the SH2 remake story trailer and gameplay demo, because now I’m finally optimistic for it. I hope this video pops up in people’s recommended, you make a lot of valid points, and with how open the timeline of SH2 is, you might be right.

@@RuminInLove You’re very welcome, who knows? Maybe the remake might have new notes/diaries/dialogue that could help fuel the discussion of the timeline. 😊 Have a nice day/night.

The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

James thinks Mary died 3 years ago because (in an optional cutscene) a doctor tells James that Mary has a maximum of 3 years left to live, their relationship became so toxic that from James's perspective Mary was already dead to him.
@RuminInLove2 ай бұрын
Yup, I've played the game too. That doesn't discredit my theory. "Reflecting James's mental state through time dilation." James thought she died 3 years ago figuratively, and Silent Hill made it literal.

@taWay21Ай бұрын
No no no, all of this is a result of James' broken psyche. You cant take these transitions at face value.
@RuminInLoveАй бұрын
Yes, it all is a part of James's broken psyche. I didn't say it wasn't. I was saying that Silent Hill was reflecting his broken psyche via time dilation. So when he thought his wife died 3 years ago, Silent Hill made it literal. It's just a different way to see things, 'tis all.
