For real. I finally got around to playing that one at 23 and it still creeped me the heck out. I honestly don't let the game go idle on the main menu for too long if I get distracted, because it replays the intro. I remember too, when I got into the series as a kid, my local game store had 2 and 4 and I wasn't sure which to get, since I never heard of the series. Very happy that I started with 2. 4 probably would have given me nightmares from that intro alone.

Most things he works on have more exposure due to his involving rather then being interesting media at all. And at the same time most of those garbage media is a same reason why many people miss out on his music too. Zero interest in Cyberpunk Edgerunners or what ever that nonsense company puts out but if I can have a OST just to listen to then I will gladly check out Akira's music. If that is not an option then I wont bother polluting my brain. On a related note. The only thing about SH games after 4th game was the music / songs, those games have zero f ks to do with the SH lore whatsoever ... The only thing kept its essence was his music, nothing else. Bought the soundtracks and ripped the rest out of the games, but couldnt care less for the games. SH1234 is where it's at, the rest is pointless desperate cashgrab. Including the recent reboots. Quite sad what they all did to this gem of a franchise. Started as groundbreaking masterpiece to the point its not even meme worthy anymore ...

@@mat_max is it really? SH1: little girl burned alive and forced to stay burned for 8 years. Man loses daughter, fights devil, but _does_ get new daughter. And I haven't even mentioned Lisa. SH2: 3 killers walk directly into their own personal hell. The GOOD ending is getting away with murder and adopting the girl your victim wanted to adopt. SH3: Psycho kills your father, you are pregnant with devil god. "They look like monsters to you?" I can go on, it honestly never gets better... from 4 to PT. You can say A theme of SH is that you need to have hope, even in the most hopeless situation, and if you're lucky, you may get SOME reward for _literally surviving hell_ but I think every protagonist would say they'd rather have just not gone thru what brought them there. I mean seriously... the closest thing to a MC in the series is Alessa. ALESSA.

The music of Silent Hill 1 and 2 are just *Chef's Kiss*. I had the pleasure of going to a Silent Hill concert when Akira Yamaoka came to the UK. Hearing the Silent Hill theme and The Theme of Laura was so amazing live. The games, done by Team Silent are beyond their time, it's a shame that teams that took over and Konami don't understand what made Silent Hill so beloved. It's not just your typical horror game, it's the kind of horror that affects you long after you played them.

Pyramid Head is the main enemy chasing you in Silent Hill 2. SH2 is it's own story, separate from 1 and 3. Basically just shares the setting in common. The girl you play as in SH3 is the child you saw in the car in SH1. The first game follows her dad trying to rescue her after she disappears following the crash you saw at the end of the intro. The 3rd game is her returning to the town.

@xyex
@xyex 2 жыл бұрын
@@steelbear2063 SH2 is the most well known and most iconic of the games, so it's not surprising it's seen by many as the main representative of the series. People who haven't played, or don't know the lore of, 1 and 3 won't realize that Silent Hill is basically just the backdrop of 2, while the town is essentially a character of its own in those games, and even in 4. 2 and 4 are the only ones I've fully played. I started 1 a few years ago but got sidetracked and never finished, and I own 3 but my PS2 looks like ass on my 50in flat screen and I no longer having a working CRT, so I've yet to play it.

One thing to keep in mind if you go further into the Silent Hill universe is that almost every enemy or monster symbolizes something specific to the human characters, such as their fears, guilts, and regrets. For instance Pyramid Head was originally made to be a manifestation of SH2 main characters guilt, showing that he believes he should be punished for his actions (although Pyramid Head was later just thrown into stuff because he was popular). I love the artistry of this world, hope you guys take a deep dive down into this franchise!

Silent Hill is one of my favorite game series of all time. Without spoiling anything but to give context of what Silent Hill is... The town is a malevolent mirror that reflects the horrors within a person's mind. The town is a normal town to most people, but if you have an unbelievably deep trauma within you it manifests and feeds into it which is why the protagonists are all flawed and traumatized people with the exception of SH1 and SH4 where the characters are more observers of someone else's horrific trauma.

The version of the Silent Hill 2 intro you watched is actually the version that plays if you start the game again after beating it. In the original version only the scenes with the woman behind the bars at the beginning and end have voice-audio, the rest just play over the music. That's why the music don't really match the tone of what is going on; the game doesn't expect you to know what is going on in those scenes until they happen in the game.

Absolutely adore Silent Hill, it's easily the best horror franchise for me, it's such a shame that it's had such a fall from grace. That being said, Konami literally just announced a big event like hours after you released this which is incredibly well timed! Depending on what the reveal is like, would love to see your reactions! Also, while the music wasn't super appropriate for these trailers, I was lucky enough to get tickets to Akira Yamaoka's (the composer) tour a few years ago, and it was so good! easily a memory I'll never forget, he's a master of his craft.

I honestly think the music not being fit for a intro of a horror game is the best thing they could do, it's like the calm before the storm when you open it. It also makes you not know what to expect upon first time playing the game with its music. Since the intros really do not show alot of enemies, it makes you guess what is ahead and what better way to get you excited than music that aren't really horror themed.
@theocan

@@pleasedontkillme1185 True but I think in terms of a perfect intro, Silent Hill 1 just tops them all. It's got some lighter tones but generally the atmosphere is perfectly spot on with that eerie instrumental strumming. Easily cemented it as one of the most iconic horror themes of all time!

Silent Hill 2 is the best horror video game and probably the best video game in history for its narrative and artistic depth, a game that understands very well the limitations and virtues of the medium and uses them masterfully to tell a story that invites the player to actively participate in both the gameplay and the plot, convey feelings and send a message. It is a game that I would recommend to anyone, even if they are not a fan of video games.

A lot of the games in the franchise aren't really connected story-wise (save for SH1, SH3, and Origins [but just barely for this last one]), so it's okay to dive into which one you'd like in any order. If you want some lore, I would suggest the lore video of Tiptoe The Tank about SH4's antagonist, Walter Sullivan. It delves into his motivations and background.

wow they did it!!! they are both incredible!! I tell you something, there is no better horror saga in video games for Halloween than this wonderful franchise, silent hill. I started playing it when I was 8 years old, it scared the shit out of me, but over time it became my favorite by far... its stories, its characters, its creatures, Akira Yamaoka's music, all together create a masterpiece . If one day you have the opportunity to play the first 4 titles, do it, and from the bottom of my heart I hope you all enjoy them as many of us did since the first one was released on the first playstation in 1998. applause to both. It's actually very brief and short editing, scenes are taken chaotically here and there without conveying too much meaning. It would be so much better to watch all the cutscenes for every part in chronological order. I remember I enjoyed them a lot, for every SH part it was like a whole separate movie.

SH 1: About a man looking for his daughter in the town of Silent Hill after having a car crash SH 2: About a man going to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife claiming that she's waiting for him there. SH 3: About a teenager trying to get home after the mall she was in turned into a hellscape & discovering an evil cult that wants her, she's the daughter of the SH 1 protagonist SH 4: About a man that cannot leave his room because one day his door was chained shut and found a strange hole in his bathroom taking him to fucked up versions of his town (subway, forest, his own apartment) SH Origins: About a trucker that rescues a little girl from a house fire, wakes up in Silent Hill and has to confront his demons SH Shattered memories: A reimagining of the first game, a father loses his daughter in SH after having crashed his car during a blizzard (this game has an ice theme instead of the usual fog, blood and rust from the other games), the game has therapy sessions that can change the enemies and ending on your answers SH Homecoming: An army veteran comes home and finds his mom in a catatonic state, his little brother is missing and has to find him, oh and the town is covered in fog even though it's not set in Silent Hill and a lot of people went missing SH Downpour: A convict that killed his son's rapist and murderer is being transported to another prison and the bus crashes (I think) and he makes his way to Silent Hill All the games have the protagonist deal with their fucked up past and the monsters represent their psyche, Silent Hill is not the same place for every person, they see different things in there. Also the games have different endings. This was a short summary of what each game is about, but the plot of each game goes to different places later and there's almost always a plot twist.

i never like horror games, but when i was younger i just have 4 games on my PS1, silent hill 1 and resident evil 3 were 2 of them. Resident evil with all those monster and stuffs was a cool game with a few jumpers, but Silent Hill was horror, the city destroyed and foggy, your map full of writing, the static sound when a monster was nearly, the limited amount of ammo, the weird camara views. And that frecking cat inside the school locker, 20 years and i still remember that damm cat.

I barely played any Silent Hill games but I did play a demo of Silent Hill 1 way back on PS1 and I swear there was an area where you go to a fenced enclosure and of course the gates close and lock you in. Then you are ambushed by these child demon things and you're forced to "die". Always creeped me out XD I did play a bit of Silent Hill 2 and the screeching of the enemies bugs me. I also kept dying to Pyramid Head and never finished it.

I wish they would have used my submission for sh2 as it added "marys letter,' Which helps with more story for them to understand as this just gives NO context to anything. I'll summarize SH2. Silent Hill is different for everyone, no one goes through the same thing as it's literally purgatory for the person that was sent there to attone for something they've done or are not doing. It's why the little girl when asked 'what's a little girl doing here,' insinuating why is a little girl in a dangerous place with monsters the little girl says 'huh, are you blind or something?" Meaning she doesn't SEE what the others see, to her it's a normal place but to everyone else it's what they are experiencing. It's also hinted at that the little girl might be an angel trying to help James (the main guy) move along his journey with him on ground level and her 'above,' him. James received a letter from his dead wife MARY saying she was waiting for him at their 'special place,' which he took as Silent Hill and goes there to figure out if she is really alive or not. Along the way he meets a girl who is having survivors guilt from killing her abusive father and blaming herself constantly, a fat guy that killed a bully and dog, and the little girl who's just there. You also meet MARIA who lived in Silent Hill and doesn't know what's going on but meets James. The weird thing is MARIA is the spitting image of his dead wife MARY which is why in the prison scene he's confused as she knows almost everything about Mary but isn't her. SIlent HIll is an entity and remember we are looking at Silent Hill through James's eyes, Maria is a manifestation of Mary for James to attone for what he did. He has guilt because Mary grew sick and was bedriiden till her last days and he started resenting her because she would lash out at him. He then started getting sexually deprived and started getting wandering eyes while feeling sick about it due to him still loving Mary. Mary said she was scared to die but wanted it to finally end. James suffocated her with a pillow. This is WHY he is in Silent Hill. He hasn't come to terms to what he did nor have they reached his consciousness he's being ignorant. Silent Hill is forcing him to come face to face with his actions. It made MARIA to force him to choose to either stay in his denial by being with MARIA or understand what he did to MARY. If you choose MARIA, at the end of the game when it's finally over and James and Maria are leaving Silent Hill she starts coughing constantly to which you can hear James in a very sullen voice "You should take a look at that cough." The meaning is that James STILL HASN'T come to terms with what he's done so he's going to repeat his mistake now with Maria. There are 5 endings but most people believe the 'in water,' ending is canon. You can see it when James is carrying a girl and it's a silouhette...it's James finally coming to terms with what he did and carrying MARY to his car (you start the game next to your car) The creepy part is during that scene at 5:30 while he's carrying a ALREADY DEAD MARY you can see her talking to him. During that ending he puts Mary in the vehicle and drives it off the bridge so he can be with her in the afterlife. If you want to hear the letters it's in order kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6PUd4Fvo92mpLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoXPY6uQgNV7jbc EDIT: On the SIlent Hill 4 : The room was TOO creepy. The two faced thing that runs at the camera. The first audio of that 'monster,' actually had babies crying (siamese twins now makes sense as to why it's called that in game.) People said it was too scary so they changed the audio of the monster for the finisehed game.

Silent Hill is an interesting series that is pretty much all single stories revolving around one town that morphs around and tests the main character in a sense by manifesting their darkest fears. Only one and three connect as a story in the original trilogy and two truly stands as its own as a not well received title on release but was gone back to after the fact and is celebrated as a masterclass of story from a psychological and human perspective. It also birthed what was meant as the mai character, James Sunderland's inner grief and desire for punishment known as Pyramid Head. The trilogy of games are know for their unsettlingly awkward but amazing performances from what weren't even voice actors but regular people hired off the street to mocap and voice the characters. The awkwardness plays into the overall feeling of the atmosphere of a place that isn't meant to feel right and all except maybe one or two jumpscare fake outs the main horror of the game is the tension and dread given from walking around abandoned environments occasionally fighting or running past monsters that vaguely represent trauma of the main character without ever blatantly telling you. Its vague but obvious enough that you can pick up the representation by looking into it a little deeper. Harry fights manifestations of warped child like things and drawings from his daughter's notebook into twisted nightmares. James faces themes of discomfort, sickness, death, and guilt, layered with subtle uncomfortable sexual features in a sense of desire. Heather faces creatures that represent fears of teenage girls like unwanted pregnancies, the twisted human body, reproductive anatomy and responsibility. Something that does actually tie into the themes of her character being intended as a vessel to birth the God of a cult. Unfortunately the series has been essentially dead for a long while with its last chance of real revival being when Hideout Kojima's concept of PT was scrapped and he was fired from the company. He actually used a lot of the people he was working with on the project such as Guillermo Del Toro, Madds Mickelson, and Norman Reedus to make his new IP Death Stranding. Recently Konami announced several Silent Hill projects including a 2 remake but there's a lot of speculation on it not going well, especially considering the team working on the remake and their unsubtle approach to horror as well as a bad rap for having a very bad message in their last game which was meant to be inspired by Silent Hill. There was one interesting trailer concept however revolving around a Silent Hill setting taking place in 1960s Japan rather than an abandoned town in America and is the most intriguing do to its presentation and the lead writer being known for psychological horror. Just a few facts
