Might be TMI, but the nurses in SH2 were called the "bubble-head nurse". Just like the name their face was twisted and bloated. The name and the visual also may represent Jame's frustration toward the nurses & doctors of not able to cure & soothe his wife.

It's kind of annoying to see them talk about the monsters in both the games and the movies. The movies stray pretty heavily from the games, and a lot of the monsters that appear in the movies don't really make sense outside of the context of the original game at all. Also for a video called "Backstories of the Monsters" they just skip over some of the backstories entirely, like for the Twin Victims. Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games and I'd love to see you react to more Silent Hill 1-4, though I wouldn't really know what to recommend - that is, outside of 60+ minute video essays by horror game channels

Wow she nailed the symbolism of the Nurses! When James would visit his wife in the hospital, he would get frustrated with the lack of sex and he would get turned on by some of the nurses. They represent his objectifying them as faceless with big breasts and low cut skirts. James felt guilt over mourning his sex life over his wifes illness. There are a lot more monsters based on sexuality in SH2. Another example is The Mannequin, with two legs and instead of a torso its just two more legs. The games never specifically tell you what any of the monsters represent. They dont spell it out. For instance the most you get about the nurses is from an argument James has with his wife where she says "I see the way you look at those nurses"
@diogopereira147510 ай бұрын
The way those mannequins move their legs as if theyre struggling resembles the last thing james saw of his wife mary was her struggling legs as he killed her
@crisactubeАй бұрын
This is one of the worst hoaxes and theories in the game's community. James was never a sexually frustrated man. This is not evidenced anywhere in the game and in the Book of memories that talks about the first 3 games. Plus: the game's creator himself denied these theories. So if the game dev says it, it's not theory anymore, it's a fact. People tend to include sex to make the game's story darker or more perverse. The mannequins represent only lust and nothing specified to James. The game is so good it doesn't need it this dark sexual elements. James is a murderer in denial about killing his own wife and not a sexual pervert.
@NoName-cz3wnАй бұрын
@@crisactube "They represent lust and are created for James specifically, but in no way is James sexually frustrated". REALLY? The other 2 posts are bang on: the nurse's body represents James contemplating breaking his vow to Mary, and their faces represent his anger at their failure to help Mary. The Mannequins have no head but 2 vjjs, are shown being abused by PH, and their legs shake like Mary struggling while James has the pillow over her. If you dont want to take the mountain of evidence as a sign, and would rather point to a random dev comment, have at it... but if i give you a jigsaw puzzle of a house, and its missing 2 random pieces, you'll still be able to clearly recognize a house.
@DreamerTrain18 күн бұрын
@@NoName-cz3wn but it's not a random dev comment, he knows what he's talking about. Moreover PH is not abusing the mannequins, so your "mountain of evidence" is based on misconceptions: they have nothing to do with sexual frustration. They're not even corporeal, they're made of prothesis, we know from the lore Mary had to wear them as her debilitating illness forced her, but you can't see past their torso because James is repressing Mary's memory choking her. And then we see PH killing them (not raping), and we also see him leaving a trail of them dead (as well the lying figures) in various parts of the game, because the monsters are all parts of James' denial and delusions and PH's actions are consistent with trying to get James to face the truth. So again, the whole "PH is raping the mannequins" is utter nonsense that came out of a random GameFAQs comment (much better than a random dev comment huh?) that got quoted ad verbatim since the 2000s and it just stuck

The best way to watch the movies is to see it as an adaptation of some concepts of the games. Because they tell kinda similar stories, they seem similar on the surface, but they are incredibly different. For example in the movies they say that ashes rain in the town, but in the original game is just snow, or the whole "alternate reality" is a movie thing, because, in the first 4 games at least, there wasn't alternate reality. Or the most important difference, Pyramid Head, who originally was just a monster completely related to James, in the later incarnation of the character kinda of just appear because he is pretty popular monster.

Man, seeing this totally reminds me of the incredible Silent Hill 2 making of/documentary.. There are SO MANY hidden details in the character/monster/game design that you barely pick up on during an initial play. In fact, a quick extra detail, the nurses, while having oddly voluptuous bodies, have obscured faces because James Sunderland only paid attention to their bodies and saw them as dozens of faceless workers, toiling away in the process of trying to ease his wife's pain during the late stages of her severe illness. And Pyramid Head was given his heavy steel pyramid because the points and sharp edges are meant to be uncomfortable for the wearer; imagery for James's clear inability to carry the weight of his guilt.

Do want to say that the Silent Hill Movies aren't 1 to 1 adaptations. Especially since the first movie changed the Protagonist from a Father to a Women because the director felt a male getting rightfully fearful was unmasculine (his words not mine). The first Silent Hill movie is a perfect adaption of the games overall theme and story. The director is working on another Silent Hill film (the second movie had a different director. It's not as good but still worth checking out) which will be coming out in the future. You should definitely watch the films in order because the second film takes place after the first, similarly to the games Silent Hill 1 and 3. Also, check out some lore videos as this video felt more like it didn't really get into the lore, but rather the creatures and the mechanics (especially towards the end). My favorite (and scariest) are the victims from Silent Hill 4. Also, I would suggest checking out the game series called Fatal Frame for spooky month. If there is one game I can never finish, it's all of the Fatal Frame games. Great content as always and I hope to see more Silent Hill from you both in the future!

No, the first movie was AWFUL, it was a terrible misrepresentation of the actual story and completely butchered the original meaning and themes all for the sake of the director trying to write his fan fiction about motherhood. I'll also forever hate the first movie for what the director said, saying that he replaced mason with a female protagonist because he felt a parent looking for their child would be something more motherly and didn't make as much sense with a father, which is an awful thing to insinuate. The second movie was trash, but the first movie just offends me much more.

The last monster of the video is based on the second movie of Silent Hill (but exist also in the game) as the Spider Mannequin. It transforme a body into a doll then it take the head and put some kind "USB cable" lool into the head to be in symbiosis and take control of the soul. That's why we heard the woman scream before her voice get replace by the voice of the Spider Mannequin.

Too add to the joined twins monster, the twins are reprentation of the children who were not only little to next no food but lack of proper hygiene which resulted in their deaths. Too disposed of the bodies without the ones still alive finding out they created holes in certain empty cells and the ability rotate the cells (I recommend play the game and see how it works). One other thing if they see you, twins will scream accusing finger at you, and charge at you. So being a pafisist towards them is not going work. My guess and mainly other people on KZbin is that they have a deep root hatred towards adults in general and might have another individual your protagonist meets later on. After killing them the body will stick around a bit longer as for what happens to the soul, if they have one is a complete mystery, best not to think about to much though.

The Silent Hill series is one of my favorite horror series (the other one being Fatal Frame). The first 4 are fantastic in there own way. Silent Hill 1 being all about the fear of losing a child and being a great foundation for the series. Silent Hill 2 being all about guilt. Everyone in the game is they're because of guilt. It makes the characters relatable though you certainly don't agree with most of them. Angela being really the big exception. Yes she murdered her father but really she was a victim (at least to a larger degree then Everyone else) and it was cruel of the Town to drag her in. Silent Hill 3 deals with the fears of teenage girls. Its really interesting but as a guy I can only identify so much with it. I think it's one of the most interesting and unique of the games but I'm not in a place to truly understand Heather. The fourth entry is really where the series started going more into the overall lore of the series more then of the the personal story of the protagonist. It's good but a shift in the series.

Silent Hill is an incredible franchise with a pretty turbulent history. Silent Hill was best when it was headed by the original developers nicknamed Team Silent, they were all sort of outcasts at Konami if I remember correctly. Due to the nature of its genre, Psychological Horror, it must be handled with subtlety and nuance to be done right. This means the minute an American team got a hold of the IP, it was basically ruined. Lol. It may be an exaggeration but every game after 3 has been either mediocre or bad. A lot of them tend to retell the story of 2, following the same formula. The more the games go on the more they disrespect the originals. For instance, Pyramid Head should not exist outside of James Sunderland’s personal Hell within Silent Hill. The original monster designer, Masahiro Ito, has confirmed this. This hasnt stopped Konami from milking it for all its worth. Heres to hoping the new SH games and the SH2 remake will bring it back to its roots.

I feel I need to emphasize since the video fails to bring this up, and since the existence of the Dark God is ambiguous at best. It is actually heavily implied that the Dark God was a creation of the town manifested from the delusions of the cult that lived there. It's the TOWN that has the power to bring the delusions and fears of its residents to life, so the Dark God itself is just another manifestation of the Town rather than actually being a god. Just another monster.

Yeah, the whole story regarding James and his wife's illness is Silent Hill 2 and probably the best game in the franchise so that's the one you should play if interested [Pyramid Head is where that is too] ... it has probably the best story and lots of psychological themes but also easier to understand; the whole cult stuff is very confusing and not well explained even if you play the game so I'm not surprised SH2 is the most compelling in the franchise. Most people start there and then get into the nitty gritty of the other games.

Should be noted that Silent Hill just as itself isn't exactly linear narratively and the movies have very little to do with the games. It's more of a reimagining than a 1 to 1 representation. It makes this video weird because he's combining a bunch of different stories into 1. Like for the most part Silent Hill is just haunted. There isn't people praying over anything dragging people into the world. It's just the town itself manifesting monsters based on whatever characters happen to be in town. Silent Hill 2 has really nothing to do with the god or anything else in the series other than an explanation on why James is fighting through physical manifestations of his phycological trauma. It also creates weird problems (and this is a series thing not related just to the video or the movie). Pyramid Head and the nurses return a lot throughout the series and some of the times it makes little sense and the reason they are reappearing really is because those are the 2 most popular monster designs, they ever made. Which is a big problem in Pyramid Head's case as he's completely tied to James who was in Silent Hill 2. It has that problem of some writer's guilt is manifesting the right hand of god? Makes little sense. Kind of sucks because the best character designs are the ones where if you think about them enough, you realize what they represent and why they might be so terrifying to the actual character that spawned them. It's also part of the reason why you can see the Silent Hill franchise taking a heavy dip in quality after 4 imo.

He's very well written and a really interesting character to learn more about as you play through the game. The remake is coming soon, so maybe you guys should play it! He's not a bad person. . . But he also is a bad person. The nurses being a manifestation of his sexual frustration is a bit messed up when you remember that his wife was literally dying while he was being frustrated at a lack of sex. Pyramid Head is the biggest manifestation of James' issues and the first time you run into PH he's literally sexually assaulting a weird leg monster.

For the uninitiated at least the first movie would probably be an enjoyable watch, but it's very different from the game it's based on. It has surface level similarities, (a parent looking for their lost child in a town called silent hill) but they do some weird changes like switching the protagonists gender because the idea of a man looking for his lost child was deemed unmasculine according to the movies director.

4:30: The issue most _Silent Hill_ fans have with the depiction of Pyramid Head as seen in the movies (and to a slightly lesser extent in _Dead By Daylight_ ) is that, once the series became popular enough that KONAMI saw it as something to exploit for profit, they completely disregarded the established canon of Pyramid Head's creation/ reason for existing/ mode of operation, and to a much more severe degree, how the metaphysical landscape of Silent Hill works. Pyramid Head was originally supposed to be exclusive to and only found in Silent Hill 2: this being because he was a manifestation of the central protagonist, James Sunderland's, mental traumas and internal conflicts. Now, here is where I present to you a chance to not be spoiled to the wonderfully twisted and creepy slow burn that is Silent Hill 2's story, which, even after they released more games afterwards, was and still is regarded as the crowning masterstroke of the entire series as a _WHOLE_ . Many other fans would go ballistic if I'd spoiled the core plot twist/ story point of the game without you having played it for yourself. But seriously; the games been out for *20 FREAKING **_YEARS_* , so I'd imagine that anyone who hadn't played Silent Hill 2 has been living under a rock and never played any of the gaming consoles prior to the 4th or 5th generation of videogames! Anyways; Pyramid Head (originally called in-game by James the "Red Pyramid Thing" ) was a manifestation of James' conflicted feelings over him killing his terminally ill wife, Mary Sunderland, by smothering her with her pillow, which was motivated by both a positive/ good reason and negative/ evil reason. The "Good" reason was because he felt sorrow for his suffering lady-love and couldn't stand to see her waste away and be miserable, be self-conscious over how the disease was ravaging her body and making her face seem much older than it truly was, making her cough up blood from her damaged lungs. So it was, from an empathetic point of view, a merciful act of euthanasia, putting an end to her suffering so that she wouldn't have to prolong her misery. He loved his wife and didn't want her to be anguished by her feelings of revulsion towards her wizened, sickly appearance, and her inability to move around or do anything, making her feel that she was a burden to James, keeping him from being happy, from living his life. The less-altruistic "Evil" reason is as appallingly awful as it is incredibly simple: he was experiencing a severe case of "blue-balls" because of his inability to have sexual relations with his wife which left him feeling resentful towards Mary, left him feeling as though he was deprived of his ability to gratify his carnal urges, which he felt entitled to, and when he wasn't able to get with his wife, his eyes began to wander and (though it is implied he never _physically_ had relations with them; he merely fantasized and kept it to himself) proceeded to undress the younger, more beautiful nurses, to think about being with them so he could satisfy his desires which his wife wasn't doing for him. What certainly didn't help matters was that the illness was causing Mary to verbally and physically lash out him, accusing him of being disloyal to her and thinking her "ugly," such as when James tried to bring her flowers in a vase, which she, in a rage, then flung at him, making him retreat in fear, and causing her to realize what she had done, and regret doing it. It didn't matter to James that his wife acted the way she did because she was pain and experiencing a whirlpool of negative emotions of self-loathing and clingy jealousy; she was "unnecessarily cruel" and "unjust" to him even though he was trying his hardest to keep her alive, to care for her when nobody else would, and he couldn't bring himself to fully forgive her for berating him and threatening him, leading him to eventually snap and kill her in a fit of rage. James is a character who, the more you learn about him, the more you feel disgusted by what he did... but you also, at least to a degree, empathize, if not sympathize with what he did, because what he did came from a very mixed-up, human line of reasoning. Does that justify what he did? No. And James would agree with that, because he immediately felt regret for his actions, so much so that he repressed the memory of what he had done, convincing himself in a fit of delusional grief, that she had died three years ago from the illness itself, rather than him having killed her shortly before he arrived in Silent Hill to "look for her, after receiving her letter (which, after you defeat Pyramid Head for the final time, you realize that the 'letter' she sent was actually a blank piece of paper with no writing on it whatsoever, meaning James likely hallucinated Mary's summons to Silent Hill)." Furthermore, this feeling of personal guilt extended into a total disregard for his own sense of self-preservation, with there being numerous red-flags throughout the story. This including; Angela Orosco warning James that the town of Silent Hill was dangerous, to which he responded with an eerily detached, wistful tone of voice that, 'He believed her; he just didn't really care what happened to him'; James showing zero-hesitation towards doing potentially life-threatening or disgusting things, such as jumping into a pitch-black vertical drop that he had no way of knowing how far down it would go, jumping into an actual grave with his own name above it, choosing to pick up a weapon and fight a clearly inhuman monster rather than run away as any sane person would do, sticking his hand into a wall that had strange noises coming out of it, being pricked by something, then sticking his hand _back in a SECOND TIME_ , and perhaps most disturbingly of all, reaching with his ungloved hand into an unflushed and visibly... "used" toilet just to retrieve a wallet (and the key inside) that was crucial to solving a puzzle. Obviously, he doesn't value his own life all that much if he's willing to put himself into danger with such alarming frequency. All of this, that I have been documenting for you was to show Pyramid Head's ultimate reason for being: James believed that he deserved to be punished for what he'd done, even when he had repressed his own memories and invented the story that his wife had died three years prior in his head. But he couldn't bring himself to actually 'self-terminate' because of perhaps cowardice over ending his own life, but just as likely because he had chosen to forget what he had done, and thus could not consciously find a reason to end his own life... so he relegated the task to the embodiment of his guilt, to serve as his "Executioner," the one to make him atone for his slaying of Mary with his life. Depending on which ending you get (as Silent Hill is known for having multiple endings, dependent on your personal choices and your interactions with the world around you), James either becomes resolved and brave enough to finally own up to his actions and kill himself, finally able to take responsibility for his sins and to do right by his wife... or, alternatively, he fails to learn any lesson, gives in to his evil impulses, and leaves Mary for 'Maria,' the young, healthier doppelganger of Mary that Silent Hill conjured up to tempt him away from remaining loyal to his wife, and ultimately ignores the epiphany that he did anything wrong and therefore, can live comfortably in his own selfish and cruel delusions. This is where the player's direct involvement in how the story turns out determines their ultimate fate, meaning that you, as the player, are responsible for how James chooses to deal with the situation, and whether or not he comes out a better man, or becomes the demon he feared himself to be.

evil/dark goddess alessa as portrayed in the video (and the movie) is not canon, if you actually play and make it to the end of the first game (something Gans didn't do) you will know its absolute BS

I'm so sorry that you had to watch the "movie" in this video or those scenes. The movies are bad and don't have to do (almost) anything with the games, which are better. The movies just tell something else and don't get the point of what Silent Hill is. But if people like the movies, that's okay. It's just that the games are better to tell the story.

Never liked the channel this video comes from. Always feels like an AI voice reading an auto-generated script. And it tends to get details very wrong. There's a lot of videos out here made by actual fans that are far more informative. I'd love to see more Silent Hill on this channel though, it's a great franchise (with a few very notable exceptions). I hope the new games do it justice, it's been through some rough times over the last decade.

This is not to throw shade on DnD. But the video you two reacted too was kinda garbage. They explained some of the monsters well enough, but then for allot of them, they were explaining how they are killed by the main character. In a weird way it almost feels like the script wasn't written by a person, or just by reacting to what was on screen. idk.

The video was extremely poor when it comes to understanding Silent Hill. Marvelous Videos often has no idea what the hell they're talking about. To say those two abortions of a movie are completely unrelated to the games would be an understatement. There is no dark god that created Silent Hill. That's just what the cult believes.

A simple healthy man and a simple beautiful woman watch material on monsters together, showing their reaction. Without a bunch of genders, without specific clothes\piercings\stupid haircuts\dyed hair, without vulgar expressions, without trying to prove or impose anything on anyone. Looking at you guys, you understand one simple truth - life is a very simple thing that people themselves litter with absolutely unnecessary things.
