The first three Silent Hill games aren't actual games, they're masterpieces. You would never think that a horror game could be so beautiful and have so much emotional art into it. Every other horror game is just trying to survive and make it to the end, let's not forget the same jump scares. While Silent Hill 1-3 had deep stories, monsters that were just beyond hellish looking, and the symbolism of everything. They aren't some horror game that has zombies thrown into it and cool weapons.Team Silent is the founding father of Silent Hill. That rusty, mindfucked, confusing, and uneasy atmosphere is what I miss.

I LOVE the original Silent Hill games, the atmosphere, the psychological horror of the way small things would get stuck in my mind and nag there, unsettling me for ages (the sound of the school boiler in SH1 being the same sound the monster that appears there later makes, the descent beneath Historical Society in SR2, etc). I really like The Room too, which unsettled me due to it actually making me have empathy for the serial killer. Not many games have that ability to stay with me for so long - years - after the fact.

Both sets of games are amazing but for completely different reasons. Kinda hard to compare them on a number of levels since they present their scares, atmosphere, monsters, characters, story etc etc etc in a very different way. To me both are worth overhyping especially for what they were doing at the time of their release which made them unique, heck still unique even nowadays when you think about it

Silent Hill 1-4 had a very scary atmosphere. Idk exactly what it was, but a lot of it was the sounds and psychological terror. I played Homecoming and downpour and thought they were okay, but not nearly as good as a silent hill game. Downpour barely had any enemies.

I remember playing Silent Hill 3 on the Ps2 for the first time. That game scared the shit out of me, especially the hospital part with the zombie nurses popping out of nowhere. There needs to be more horror games like that because the atmosphere is quiet and unsettling, the enemies are creepy, and it just prays on basic human fears.

I always wanted Team Silent to come back, ignore all SH games after part 4 and continue from there. I dont see any point in wasting time on reboots, remakes, but rather move ahead with franchise. Silent Hills was one game i was looking forward to, but sadly, its going to the sewers. Games like Shadow Man (1999) PC version (Ignore 2nd Coming that didn't have the original team), Legacy of Kain series, Amnesia, Scratches and the upcoming Asylum (by the same team, renamed to Senscape), BloodRayne 1, DarkWatch, Painkiller series, Postal, Darkness Within... are the kind of games i love. None of them are liked by any of my friends and that makes me feel good about my choice! Ha!

(Sorry for late response) In all games, the shibito can't actually die, but they can be disabled for variables of time. In the first one, stealth is a key factor and setting up strategies, and in BC, there is still strategies at points, but stealth is pretty much gone. And yes, the first one has more levels, BC has 12 episodes with 2 levels per episode.

The best thing for him to do is to return to Team Silent. That's obviously where most of his fans are at. They, including me, want a new Silent Hill game with the original Team Silent. Even though the older games had terrible voice acting, that's what made the game great. The fact that you didn't need good voice actors and still kicked ass means that the games were still remarkably successful. Like you said, they made movies based on it because of the original three. I just want the old "What the hell am I looking at?" kind of scare from the originals. I don't want the game to hold my hand (metaphorically speaking) like the game is trying to help me get through the difficult parts. I want to wander off aimlessly wondering where the fuck I go. I want to be confused and I want that great psychological atmosphere. That's what the originals are all about.

Fair enough. I kinda like the idea myself because Metal Gear and Silent Hill have always been my top 2 all time favorite game series and having the creator of MGS making a Silent Hill game sounds amazing to me. Also on another note Masahiro Ito from the original Team Silent said he's be on board for the game if Kojima heads it so again that'd be amazing cuz that man design the sickest creatures of the series.

So does anyone know if any of Team Silent is working with Hideo Kojima on Silent Hills? I know that Masahiro Ito said that he would definitively work with Hideo on a new Silent Hill back in 2012. Also after the disbanding I have heard that a few had joined Kojima's team already.

A new game whether its the same IP or not would definitely be sweet if made by that team in particular. With the technical advances made in the newest gaming tech that is coming up many really awesome concepts and ideals can come of some great production work and be brought to life in a unique way that could please everyone who is a huge fan of this genre. All they need is to get some funding to carry a project out and get some support from fans and they could dish a game out that would kick ass

When it comes to Silent Hill, I can easily say Silent Hill 2 is best in my opinion in just about every way. But yes horror has gone down and I think we really need a damn good survival horror back in the style of classic horrors. Sure some people hate the fixed cameras, clunky combat and grueling tasks to carry out but that makes survival horror so much better - it adds to the atmosphere and makes it great as a survival horror especially since nothing is done for you, you are doing everything yourself, there is no hand-holding, no bullcrap QTEs, no crazy over the top hollywood action scenes, none of that which is littering horror games nowadays. We need to go back to the classics. First person shooters are trying to go back with titles like Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam 3, Hard Reset, etc. Let's hope survival horrors can go back too.

Fun Fact: Silent Hill I and II were inspired by Jacob's Ladder, more as the second installment when you make the comparisons. James Sunderland= Jacob Maria= Jezzie Mary= Sarah The first four Silent Hill have always been some of my favourite horror games from Japan but there out there like Rule Of Rose, Koudelka, Galerians Haunting Ground and Extinction who tend to get buried under the household names on console. Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare, Mars Gothic and Cry Of Fear also deserve praise.

It's funny that you mention all this. As I sorta liked Homecoming, really liked Shattered memories & loved Downpour, I noticed that I don't need Silent hill to be scary for me to enjoy it. I always value a phychological story & gripping characters over horror when it comes to SH. When I played Downpour for instance, I never really minded that I wasn't being scared, cause I was just invested in the story of Murphy & the stuff around him. Still, I guess It'd be cool to have a scary SH again.

It's just differance in perspective. I'll say it time & time again that I don't need a Silent hill story to be particularly scary. Just as long as horror is a prominant theme. To me, what defines Silent hill as such is the focus on symbolism, psychological story angle & intriguing characters. On that front, Shattered memories & Downpour are very good games as the story in both is fantastic. What they lack is a feeling of urgency & threat that SH1, 2 & 3 have, which to me was a bonus.

Well there "technically" is already a Fatal Frame game on the 3DS in the form of Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir. It is a Spin off game made by the Fatal Frame staff and the in game title calls it Fatal Frame: The Diary of Faces (The Purple Diary if you are in Europe). However it isn't like the main games at all except in the combat with the ghosts so take it for what it is worth.
